OK for quite a while i had a nice setup with my bridge officers.
Depending on the situation i would switch up my bridge officers and the different boff abilities would show up on the same places on my toolbar.
IE the commander tactical skill would always show up in the same place, likewise with lieutenant tactical skill. Reguardless of which boff was slot or what that ability actually was.
Now when i switch , the spot goes blank.
Any idea how i get that functionality back?

Try closing the character GUI and opening it again. Perhaps also try switching ships at a space dock.
I would hope that they fix it once and for all and enhance this by allowing the player to create profiles for each ship.
