I tried to fly tac/escorts, I tried to fly sci/sci and those are not fun for me. I mean I can play X-Wing if I want to fly a fighter, and sci ships feel weird. Ok, can build something that will be pretty nasty (for PUGs) with them but still - they feel weird.
It seems I'm cruiser captain, hell, I'm eng/cruiser captain. Tank is a no-no, damage without APA and FOMM will be non-existant. Offensive support and debuff (DEM, Aceton) on eng/cruiser suck...
So do I really need to roll tac/cruiser if I want to PvP in cruiser? Or is there some option for eng/cruiser I'm missing? Think PUG only, I was never into all this OPvP stuff.
that thread is dead, the newest version is sticked at the top, made by me.
best advice i can give for an eng cruiser is that it shouldn't try to be anything it can never be. it can only be a heal boat, and is best to keep in pugs were it will be the lone healer. in pug mades a sci healer will be more valuable, all the same castable heals as the eng cruiser, but trades a nuke and stuff for a few mostly redundant self heals.
i think by the sounds of it you would love kdf cruisers though. load them up with DHCs, put a tac captain in them, use a 2 AtB build with tech doffs and play something that is a cross between a zippy escort and a slow and steady cruiser

My bad, got lazy and it was the first one in my subscribed folder.

I've always wanted to try a spam cruiser myself but haven't quite gotten around to it yet. Basic principle is to spam junk and pray.
Mines, Warp goo, slap on a cluster torp and rommie torp plus a wide angle front or rapid fire for doff procs, rommie beam, other plasma beams (for the buuurn), a mine launcher or two for giggles and why not go all out and use a cutting beam and 3 piece borg set.
Yeah yea I'll let you all return to your regularly scheduled experienced PvP discussions.
I know the battlecruiser would be good for me but.. I mean... flying a KLINGON?!
So It seems that I need to find sort of tac/cruiser among the Fed ones and hope that we will get Vesta-like cruiser (with DHC) or Cryptic will fix Gal-X.
Drop some EC and get a galor if you must fly fed... it still won't be a saucer and hot dog design. An engi can be semi relevant in one. I don't have any experience with them but I would imagine a fleet excel may be workable as well.
My Fed engineer runs a D'Kora. The only usefull build I came up with was using 1 DBB with BO, 1 cannon, 2 DHC and turrets in the back and max uit in tetryon/flow cap.
I agree with the OP. As a tac I have had alot of success in my Mobius and even Defiant but there is something to be said for Cruisers. I own the Fleet Excel and took her out for the hell of it yesterday. I built it for PVP specifically and loaded it with single cannons up front and turrets/KCB in the rear.
I wasn't expecting much because of the negative views overall of single cannon builds but inevitably I did very, very well. DPS was mid-range, nothing special, but as a support cruiser taking care of spam and focusing fire on specific targets I found myself performing better in the cruiser. It's the turn rate, I am more comfortable with it than say, with the Defiant.
The end result was losing twice with 0 kills to several wins ranging between 7 kills and 0 deaths to my best being 20 kills and 5 deaths. All my wins were as a result of good team work. As a Tac captain, I think it would be worth the OP's time to consider rolling a tac toon. It sounds like work at first but inevitably I do think it'll pay off. Unless of course Cryptic makes all three careers more equal. This all in a ship with green quality disruptor cannons front and rear!
Don't let folks deter you from looking at cruisers. One guy in one of the PVP matches on our team warped in and groaned; actually wrote in the chat box how pathetic it was to see all cruisers, bad one's at that. He pretty much AFK's the entire match. This Elitist attitude is nonsense. Check out the Hilbert Guide and the STO Planner. Fly what makes you happy!

If you're rolling a fed, I'd really advise against a tac/cruiser setup. The majority of Fed cruisers are pretty much sitting ducks against escorts, with only the engineers RSF saving them. You'll likely hardly scratch whoever you're fighting anyway.
If you're really stuck on doing DPS in a cruiser, here are the following options:-
*Fly a KDF battlecruiser, especially the Vorcha and it's fleet version. This is perhaps the best option.
*Get a D'Kora.
*Wait for the Romulans and hope their battlecruiser has a decent enough turnrate.
*Cross your fingers that Cryptic will eventually give the Gal-X saucer sep.
DOFFS: Warp Core Eng, Warp Plasma guy ( can't remember name) Projectile Weapons and two of your favorites (for me I would use Entertainer and "Subnuc DOFF")
This builds lets you run with a fair amount of power to Aux, Shields, Engines when needed since only four beams are not such a huge drain, and yet the beam have nasty side effects.
Your broadside will be stripping shields and ganking power levels. when the pesky escort starts to feel it, hit evasive-->>tractor beam them-->>turn and drop Torp Spread and Cluster-->>Smother them in Warp Plasma-->>Fly past them and give them another Cluster for good measure as you fly away and get ready to do it some more.
With the double TT, EPTS, and DEM, you will have not only great survivability but also nice damage buff with basically 100% uptime. Extend Shields, Aux2SIF and HE can be used to make you nearly invincible for the duration of most alphas, or alternately used to support your escort teammates while they put the finishes touches on the "WTF just happened" you delivered to the enemy.
Another benefit of this approach is the torpedo spreads are great for spam clearing and will endear your teamates to you as you smash all the danubes, assimilators etc.
For an even nastier version of this build, try a cruiser like the Oddy or Ambassador Fleet version and put Grav Well, Feedback Pulse or some other nasty sci skill in the Lt Cmndr Sci Slot.
This is just one version that I have flown with great success. The main point is to not be afraid to use more of a Kinetic Weapon build on a cruiser. If you have good timing, you can quite often be the one delivering the kill shots, and also providing decent shields softening on the way!
