Playing an romulan: faction or tutorial?

pepattypepatty Member Posts: 14 Arc User
The romulan will come as playable race.
What do you think?
Is there a new faction coming or will be playing the handfull new missions be simply an tutorial for a new playable race?

You will get some new Missions, and access to some Fed or KDF Missions - depending on who you ally with. We don't know how many Missions. There's a new blog coming out today, in a couple of hours. Maybe that will give us more clues. :)
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

A little late to the party aren't ya? This has been discussed a dozen times over in the mega thread alone.

Oh I know, never had a thread jump out and stab me in the heart yet. Just be ready for the might of the Mods to come smashing down and wedge this in with the others. They seem to like doing that :D

False. They have their own dedicated storyline up until about level 40, at which point they move into the faction neutral stuff like the FEs and Undine content.
♪ I'm going around not in circles but in spirographs.
It's pretty much this hard to keep just one timeline intact. ♪

Having their own storyline doesn't mean they have enough independent missions to get to level 40 without some additional help - and we know they have access to their ally's missions.

My understanding was the the Fed or KDF can only do Rom missions via team-play, but Roms can do Fed or KDF missions if they are allied with the Faction.

Romulans are FED and KDF playable races. Romulan story, ships and costumes don't make a faction. If you like new story, enjoy. If you like new ships, enjoy. If you like new costumes, enjoy. But dont call it faction because you are playing for FED or KDF, your starbase is FED or KDF, your Dutty system is FED or KDF, etc, etc.

I really hope people keep their expectations in check (yeah i know who am i kidding?)

they will have their own storyline but dont expect 40-50 solid levels of missions. there is no way they can hammer out that much content. it will most likely use the FE already in place, possibly some converted missions, and the usually array of events and what not to get us there.

there will be unique romulan missions, there many even be a fair bit but dont expect it to look anything as full as the fed faction.

I just wanted to point this out:
[dStahl] Yes. Romulan captains and ships will be able to use the Duty Officer System and we are adding Romulans and Remans to Duty Officer Packs. We also have exclusive Romulan DOFF packs planned in the near future. Romulans will be able to completely outfit their ships with Romulan/Reman DOFFs and BOFFs. FED and KDF captains will also be able to obtain Romulan and Reman bridge officers. We also plan to offer Romulan Republic flavored Duty Officer Missions.

Give me the Romulan starbases and Dutty System and I'll play a Romulan. In other words, I will play a Romulan char when Cryptic/PWE give me, give us, Romulan starbases and Dutty System ;).

As I posted above, the Roms do have their own Doffs. So they meet every criteria of a faction except bases - and I'm ok with that. :)

I am not ok with that ;), its a free world, you know ;). And, my allies are Romulans, not FED or KDF. I am a Romulan, I am not a KDF Romulan or FED Romulan.

Well then I guess your option is play one and get most of what you want, or don't play one and get nothing.

Considering your avatar, I'd think that getting most everything you want would be enough to get you to play a Rom.

I'm not sure having some Romulan and Reman Doffs is the same as having their own Doff System...

And where do people get the idea that Romulans get access to Fed or KDF exclusive story missions....

In other mmo's I have played factions are teams, the Romulans are not a team of their own, its still a race choice for fed or kdf players.

I love STO, I still play my FED and KDF chars, they have a real faction, you know. Play a Cryptic/PWE Romulan version or not to play it...I don't sell my Romulan soul for Romulan story (Cryptic/PWE version), ships or costumes. I play FED or KDF because I feel like a FED or KDF in STO so thanks, thanks so much for that Cryptic/PWE. I will play Romulans when I feel the same. All the Romulans, one faction, not Allies allowed, sorry.
