How can I select red as color for kdf UI ?
The actual color as standard is a light brown and I don't like it as much as the old red which is on live server.
Is there any possibilities to set the UI to have the same color as the old ? (red kdf)

Every color has an effect on mind even if this effect is harder to perceive at first.
I like red in general ,even outside STO, and since I play 90% kdf the red of the UI is what I got accustomed. More in movies the LCARS interface of Kdf ships were all red. Some people complained in forums about this color (mostly federation saying they don't play kdf because of UI color) so I guess the best way it would be that in color scheme selection there also should be an option for kdf red for actual kdf players .
There are almost 2 months until release so there is time to change one existing option or add another one.

From what I've seen, there will be a way to create your own custom color themes, but it might require an addon file or some hackery like that. More details will be shared once UI has it up and running. If that isn't the case, then we'll consider adding in specific colored themes that have a stronger red.

I also just noticed it does not stick per character. so if i pick the klingon one for my klingon, it will show up as Klingon for all of them and id have to manually change each time.
Maybe thats a bug and just not working right yet, i dont know, but it would be nice if the choice is remembered for each character
At least it would be great if the color choice could be faction specific. So I choose TNG for my Feds, Orion for my KDFs and Reman for my Romulans. I could totally live with that.

Please do! A customisable UI colour palette would be awesome!
Let us wear Swimsuits on Foundry maps or bridges please! I would pay zen for that.
i agree with the saving per character of the color selection, otherwise it makes no sense to have anything in use but the default (not if you have more than 1 character)
but what i really want to see is an option, like the chatbox has one, to make all windows transparent, they already are a little tiny bit transparent, but imho still to black, others might want full black instead... etc. just give us a Slider that afffects all windows / ui elements instead of just the one chat window.
if you feel fancy, give the option to every window on its own
somebody might want to hide windows that don't make much sense to be hidden, if every window had a 100% transparency option that would solve that problem permanently.
(for example, i'd like to hide the Quest log)
yes yes i know that is UI coding time, you don't have that right now, but just... put it on the schedule for later so you don't forget i don't mind if that comes in Season 8 or 9, i'll be here, waiting.

I really tried to find the official dev post that can back what I will say: It was said that, how UI color system, the setting is saved computer side on one file for the entire game. It was more than just trivial to code the possibility to customize color schemes for each character...
.. Unless a dev says otherwise, I do not think we will see this behavior change any time soon.

This is another one of those oops moments when your devs are not on the ball. Same goes for not being able to choose separate pallets for different characters.
This is basic stuff, hopefully, unlike the fleetbase naming mess, it will be fixed before going live

First off, you said in a previous Q & A that we WILL have a way to customize the colors of the new UI. Now you're saying that the tech for customizing it ain't even in the game yet.
Second, one rather simple solution, is to create 2 new "themes" which emulate the look of the current FED and KDF UI:s.
Lastly, while I kinda like the new UI skin (eventhough it needs a bit more polish), I had hoped a new UI would mean from the ground-up, fixing the problems of CPU usage whenever you open a new window etc.
I also just noticed it does not stick per character. so if i pick the klingon one for my klingon, it will show up as Klingon for all of them and id have to manually change each time.

This was explained by another dev elsewhere. The default color scheme (I think it's called Standard in game) will give you the Federation look on Fed characters, the Klingon look on Klingon characters, and the Romulan look on Romulan characters. All others are per-account changes and are persistent across all characters. It's apparently been designed that way and is, at this time, working as intended.

Since writing this I spoke to Thomas on twitter and he said he was speaking to the programmers about it, so there might be something they can do. we will have to wait and see.
i suspect if they cant do it, then it will be because of tech limitations rather than someone making that choice.

I really hope there aren't any tech limitations, especially if we can do custom color schemes.

But isn't messing with the files to make your own themes against the Terms of Service agreement? Are you saying that Cryptic would give permission to it's players to do this for UI editing?
You think that your beta test was bad?

If they were to release a modable UI that would be awesome on many levels, obviously if they are going to make something that designed to be player customizable it would not be a violation of the TOS, remember we're only talking about Modding UI appearance, not changing game mechanics.

Any chance that will lead to letting us customize the UI via xml?
Perhaps, if the ability to fully customize your UI is made available for public use, a community of UI creators will pop up.... :P

The UI system on Tribble is a pile of TRIBBLE. It looks like it was designed by a 3 year old that can't keep the crayons in the lines. Please tell me this will not be going to the Holodeck EVER.
Is this what we get to expect from anything that PWE has their name in Anime Space

I really really hope that happens. While I do respect the intent and amount of effort that has been expended, based on what I see so far... players need the ability to be able to customize it. I like the current holodeck UI and KDF colors far more than any of the themes I see on tribble right now. I'd rather stick with what we currently have on holodeck to be honest.

Firstly thank you for answering.
Secondly I left some time to reply because I wanted to see if the color issue is affecting other players beside myself. It seems that it is so.
Personally I am sure I can modify an configuration file and not destroy it but in general if you do small mistake's in grammar, some parsers drop the file completely so extra cautions should be taken in such things.
A good solution was proposed by @antrenos in his reply :"one rather simple solution, is to create 2 new "themes" which emulate the look of the current FED and KDF UI:s." and color I add.
If that is not possible then a developer posting detailing the configuration file grammar and modding rules would be helpful.I am sure that many players from kdf faction will be able to make their own version of UI and post it so other people would be able to use it .

I would like to tweak my UI color if it is possible by editing some files on client and it is not against TOS.
Anybody knows what are the files involved with the UI color scheme ?

TNG is off as well. The yellow is too bright and obscures the button text.
Yeah and this also happens ont he Voyager UI theme as well. +1 for a custom option.
