Will Romulans who fly non-Romulan ships be able to install cloak/battle cloak?

I can see this being a nifty perk if Romulans can get a bound console to add cloak or battle cloak to any ships they fly.

There would obviously need to be cost/balancing issues. Maybe it would be a console with power drain associated, so that you get, say, a -10 to Aux for Cloak and -20 to Aux for Battle Cloak or something. But if it's a Romulan in command, I don't see why the idea couldn't work in principle at least.

Sheesh...I hope not. So many things got already taken away from the Romulan faction even before it's released, they should keep something that is theirs exclusively.
Want a Rommie cloak? Roll out a Romulan toon and get a Romulan ship, mt.

Does make sense for Romulans to have cloaking concoles that could go on any ship they wished.

Oh the days of KvK PvP. ;)

Even better if it were a device instead of a console. Nifty idea in any case.

From the title, I think you're suggesting if the Rom allies with the Fed, they can use Fed ships (as mentioned in the recent Q&A?)...

    So, in my opinion:

It will be likely that only Romulan ship designs will he able to use the cloak (if they get one etc).

God damn Feds! You can already "see" through our cloaks and now you want them too. No you can't have them. If cryptic takes this away from KDF / Romulans(?) ... I will walk!

Yet another Federation attempt to obtain a cloak.

    Sigh.

Maybe they could upgrade particular Fed escorts with a cloak, or upgrade the Defiant's to a battle cloak.

So then all Klingon ships that have lower shield and hull points as a result of being able to cloak have them boosted up to the same as the Federation counterparts. Oh and add those 5 tact console ships to for the KDF.

    Fair is fair right?

Seriously what a obvious attempt for the feds to get battle cloak yet again. The JHAS does not get a cloaking device because a member of the KDF happens to fly it. That and the Romulan faction should have its own hook not rip off one of the other factions.

Like the Romulan Alliance System? Of course you do, it sounds fine to you because you aren't Romulans, you're FED or KDF who are going to make a Romulan alt, it makes a HUGE difference in perspective.

And if Romulans were in there own factions then it would not be an issue. This expansion should not be a trojan horse for Feds to get all the remaining cool stuff.

So? It is not about who invented what first (see:hargh'peng torpedos that are not available from game content to their inventors, the KDF) it is about ship balance.

The only battle cloak enabled ships in the game as of now (BoPs) suffer a penalty for it. Romulan ships added to the game in May will likely also incur a penalty of some kind, they may be different to the KDF ones, we don't know yet.

Sticking a cloak on a fed ship though is throwing balance completely out the window unless they have their weapons, hull and shields stations and consoles reduced to compensate as the BoPs have.

Naturally if the Romulans were a independent faction or at least have enough ships added of their own that they don't have to borrow from the Feds/KDF then this would be a non issue. What it is not is a excuse to TRIBBLE the KDF over some more.

It would break up the Science Captain in a BoP monopoly PvP current endures.

Sorry, a faction with a cloak that lets them run away and heal even when they are down to minimum hit points is not "Fair" in any way and discussions of "Balance" to said factions are hypocritical.

    Things change, adapt.

It is the only advantage Klingons have. The Feds have the upper hand in every other way. Take this away and there is no point in playing a BoP or Klingon(imo). It completely kills an entire "class" of ships.

Feds ships can already see through cloak and fire on cloaked BoP. It happens all the time in Ker'rak. Now they get battle cloaks too?

I fully agree that federation escorts shouldn't get any kind of cloak. If by absurd they would get battlecloaks this game would go far away from what we have seen in movies beside making obsolete a whole class of kdf ships (bops) .

You'll have alternative now - Romulans allying with Feds.
By no chance should a Patrol Escort for ex. come with a cloak. Roll out a Romulan toon in a Romulan BoP and even put a sci. captain in command if you want to. There's your cloak for the blue side in PvP if balance is what you're looking for.

    That is change enough, mt.

Did I overlook something? Where did it say in the Ask Cryptic that a Rommie will be able to fly whatever ships they're allied with?

For once I agree with you. Rommies in fed ships.... it's just silly. The only ship that Romulans should have access to outside of their normal lineup is the D-7. At least that would make sense.

I hope not. I like experiencing something different with another specie/faction. We have a chance to get a romulan faction with romulan ships and mostly romulan players. No humans, no weird aliens, this could be great. There need to be something to incite players to fly romulan ships.

No. There would be severe balance problems with this that a flat energy drain wouldn't cover. This would require too much work for an idea that would be disliked by many many players.

only if it has a 50% chance of decloaking into any object it passes through. and upon decloaking in an object it automatically kills everyone on board and activates the respawn timer.
