Basically, the most recently deployed patch (as of 28th March) has added visuals for engines, shields ect. to the Odyssey cruiser's Saucer and Aquarius. However, this is currently bugged.
Did some testing with other Odyssey players above ESD Results:
- After dropping off your Saucer or Aquarius, everything is fine. However, after 2-3 minutes you begin to notice some minor stuttering, after 5-6 minutes it becomes major and extremely noticeable, and after 10+ minutes your FPS is so bad that the game is unplayable even for the most advanced systems.
- If you have visuals disabled BEFORE dropping off your Saucer, there is no lag.
- Disabling visuals while the Saucer or Aquarius is dropped does nothing. You can still see your equipment regardless.
- This effects ALL players in the same zone as the separated player, not just said Odyssey. This makes it a game breaking bug. If even one player has visuals on and is separated, it will lag the whole team.
I also tested in an Infected the Conduit Elite STF. Results:
- Visuals enabled, dropped by Saucer at game start, it quickly died. By the time we were onto the second Transformer, the game was unplayable. 3/5 players quit the match, while myself and the other player were left hanging in space unable to do anything.
EDIT: Tested with Multi-Vector Advanced Escort and Galaxy. Multi-Vector is unconfirmed, but the Galaxy is confirmed as effected at well. It suffers the same problem when the saucer is separated.
Thanks to Robin@lcroregon, Nilhus@albertwesker45, AphaZero017@alphazer017 and One of Two@natejam101 for testing this with me.
Now that I know what causes this bug and the temporary fix for it, I can avoid causing it when running the Odyssey. However, the main problem is it effects all players in my zone, not just me. So when Bob the Odyssey in the Elite STF with you doesn't know what's going on and doesn't read chat/doesn't speak English, every other player will have no choice but to quit.
I can confirm this issue, as I was among the Odyssey skippers who tested this as well.
It seems that, with the latest patch, chevron separation / launch aquarius got bugged, generating lag whenever one of these options is activated while any special visual modifications (for example: Jem'Hadar shield visuals, Borg visuals) are active.
Disabling these visuals on the appropriate item allows normal gameplay, but the moment someone separates while special visuals are active the game goes to hell.
Btw, upon reintegration the lag stops almost immediately.
I can confurm it. I was playing 1vs1 with friend of mine who has Galaxy with saucer separation. The game starts lagging several minutes after separation, and stops when he gots destroyed.
So, that's what was happening... this sounds exactly like what was happening when I was trying to do an exploration cluster mission that involved space combat - ping increased and FPS decreased to the point where the game was down to 10 fps and even typing was severely lagged. I warped out, and everything was back fine - 60 fps solid and 60-80ms ping.
I was flying my Odyssey, and had the Aquarius out. I have a MACO set on my Odyssey, but only engine and deflector visuals were on. Shield visuals are off.
EDIT: Okay, I just verified for the devs that this happens (for me, at least) with my Odyssey's Aquarius and saucer, AND my MVAM Prometheus.
The logic is sound. Just had the most horrendous lag I've ever experienced in STO while doing a Azura nebula run. And an Odyssey was there and they did do their little Aquarius trick when we began.
I'm amazed I didn't get kick out of the game, the frame rate slowed to easily 1 every 4/5 seconds. It took me 5 minutes to turn my ship the right way around.
One player had to shut down and come back in and once that was done everything ran fine, I can only assume it was the Oddy player that left then returned.
I got back into sector space and all was well. I did a quick Borg Red Alert after and no problems at all.
I've been sepped now with my visuals turned off for nearly an hour... maybe more... since we figured out about the visuals...
No lag. Great fix, thanks for researching it.
Now once I change gears again, back to cruiser beam testing!
Edit: I may have spoke too soon... I walked away and now I'm all frozen up.. but I'm in ESD maybe somebody else is sepped with their visuals on... hard to say.
I once again match my character. Behold the power of PINK!
Thanks for this guys as after the day I have had with corrupt textures and various attempts of forcing verifying, trying safe mode for the game to crash I finally fixed after I forced steam to re-download the entire game.
Got an hour of game play before the patch came out, then got hit by this bug which makes the game completely lockup, worst bug I have seen since I started playing.
I have now disabled visuals as suggested and it seems to work a treat.
Aactually this might be part of the major lag ive had today, I was playing in my Fleet Galaxy on another toon and it was just awful lag in everything i tried to do.

weird, because I just had this in a cse instance with no separating ships...
It happened around midnight, right after the carrier went down Everyone in the map noticed it and noticed extremely heavy cpu usages on all cores (Various cpus, my c2q 9550 went to full 100%, another with an i7 went to 95%).
The only ship in the match that is on your list was my fleet advanced escort, which does not carry the mvam module (so no sep).

Playing from UK, no lag just the stuttering. to my eyes it looks like cogentco did a bad again
Although cpu use by the game has gone up dramatically in general. Things like the friends list, the foundry, the doff screen, all cause the game to slow down quite dramatically where before it was fine.. weird.
True other things might have been lagged to hell after the recent patch, but saucer separation is the main. I posted elsewhere that carrier pets have been acting strangely today as well.
ok I will change ship then because I am in a Fleet galaxy
There's no need to jump out of your Fleet Galaxy completely. Just disable the visuals on your deflector, engine, shields and Assimilated Module and you'll be completely lag free when separating.
Just to say not just Oddyssey or Galaxy it happening too. It happened to my Promethues when I went into Multi vector Mode. All 3 Sections looked like they were Omega & Game Completely Froze cause of it.
Anybody keen enough to try a D'Kyr? I own one but I am short ship slots ATM... bought a fleet ambassador and defiant, and I'm getting ready to do some cruiser/beam testing so my ody is in my swap slot.
I once again match my character. Behold the power of PINK!
I wonder if someone with the Nova-class Photonic Duplication console would have the same effect.

I don't know what you 'fixed,' but for the first times ever (for ME), this game is experiencing some serious tech issues. I've had to force exit twice now-once while in DS9 space where the framerate chugged to a total standstill (1 frame every ~8 seconds is not 'playable' by any definition), and just now, while attempting to load into Earth Space... it didn't.
Everything has been great all of March. I start playing tonight, and in two hours, I've had two game interrupting problems. Force exiting and relaunching the program appears to resolve them, so they might be some form of memory leak.
currently 5:13 UTC 29th march, after the server "issue" game is lagging badly, typically 10 seconds per lag, when it happens they're happeing a few seconds apart. Might want to look at you hamsters, make sure they're not sick, and if they're just getting fat overfed and lazy you might want to invest in a cattle prod.

The team I was on seemed to think it was related to Photonic Fleet but he was just guessing and we were in no situation to do controlled testing.

I'm starting to hear enough reports of non-sep related lag to think it is a seperate issue, or possibly related and manifesting in a different manner.

It takes some time for the lost frames to build up. The effect of the console would end before the problem became critical, at least on my rig.

Sat at starbase. Popped my aquarius and put fps and ping visible.
From 50 fps and 180 ping to 0.5 fps and 600 ping took me like 4-5 minutes.
And I did nothing. Sit there and watched fps go crazy.
When I returned the aquarius into its "hangar" fps went back to 50 in a second.
