Flying the Assault Cruiser Refit, and my play style has always been very heavy on the idea of an offensive tank. I like to be in the middle of a fight living for a long as possible while dealing out as much as I can.
So looking for build help for this.
Space is vast, it's wonderful and maddening. Yet in that madness is some of the greatest beauty I have ever seen.
http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=583401 contains a good number of solid cruiser builds, some even come with the skill tree. There are Regent/Imperial examples in there, plus many others that only need a slight adaptation to fit onto your ship. Regent has great potential as an offensive tank. As always I recommend looking into upgrading to a Fleet Assault, via 1 fleet ship module and access to a tier 5 shipyard. The latter can work out expensive unless you have some nice friends.

This is the info on my galaxy X.
How it works: Fly slower to stay in the mine field. I use FAW and my torpedos to spread plasma fire all about. Once I have the attention of the baddies they will come in close as dictated by the AI where it will then encounter the plasma mine field and take more kinetic damage and further plasma damage.
Also, by using Polarized disrupters, plasma torps, and a cutting beam I have 4-5 debuffing proccs which will weaken the enemy defense and compensate for my lack of dps.
The reccomended MODs for a tanks weapons are DMG with a touch of ACC. Tanks do not dps. They absorb damage.
I have traded off one of the torp doffs for a mine doff.
I have my key binds set to mouse buttons but since I only have 4 extra buttons I might actually use the space bar thing in order to free up some buttons for special attacks/ team heals. Great Guide ! And i think I will try that combatlog parser.

You will find a lot of advice in the Federation Shipyards subforum as well, a few sample threads:
http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=531911
http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=583401
Also, You can sift through the different builds for a particular class of ship at
http://www.stoacademy.com/tools/skillplanner/search.php
where other players did post their ships and equipment as well as which skills they prefer.
The list of the actual effect of a skill on the particular ability can be found here:
http://home.comcast.net/~amicus/Skil...%20Effects.htm
So You can decide if it is worth it to spend 0 to 9 skillpoints in a particular skill.
