Can a cruiser do spike damage and replace an escort?

I built a fleet galaxy just for laughs. Got a few spike kills with it. Using romulan experimental beam and 7 turrets. Take the saucer off and preload beam overload 2 as it comes up also load beam overload 1. The trick is to not fire until both are loaded. Add to this the romulan weapon set 3 peice overload attack. You will need dem 3 as well. So basically stack all the consoles possible to load up on plasma damage.

Anyhow... dual beam overloads and 6 turrets with dem makes for a good spike. Is it ideal? Hell no. Is it funny as hell watching a galaxy kill someone in 2 seconds... sure is
