Department S
Hello and welcome to Department S! We have decided to open our doors to anyone looking for a casual based fleet. So let's get into it shall we?
What is Department S?
Department S began as the Star Trek Online branch of the Champions Supergroup "Selective Elite Champions Reinforcement Emergency Team" otherwise known as "S.E.C.R.E.T." Despite having "Elite" in the name, we have always encouraged and embraced more casual gameplay. After all, we recognize that real life comes first. Play when you want, how you want. That's something we have always stood by. We have decided to branch out and make Department S it's own independent fleet and not just an alt fleet for CO. Many of us have now switched to STO as our main game and want to open our doors to anyone who would like to join us.
Do I need to play Champions and be a member of that Supergroup to join?
No. We will not force anyone to play a game they do not want to. For quite some time we used to be invite only, however we have since changed that policy to encourage people to play whatever game they want to instead of joining up with our other branches first. Department S is for STO.
Are there any age requirements?
No, but some maturity is needed. Our fleet chat tends to be more on the adult side. We ask that you don't go crazy and curse every other word, but feel free to use a few choice words after being one-shot by invisible torpedoes in ESTFs. I know I do.
What kind of events do you do as a fleet?
Right now we don't run any dedicated events. We do run STFs together occasionally and are looking for some more to join us. We enjoy running daily missions such as Tau Dewa patrols and the like together to make it a bit more interesting. However, there is never any forced participation. That said if you would like to set up runs for various events on your own, feel free. You never know who might want to run something at any given time.
What about PVP?
We are primarily a PVE fleet. We do have a small number of members who participate in PVP on a daily basis and would love for more people to join them. However if you are looking for a strictly PVP based fleet, you may want to look elsewhere.
Are you Federation only or do you have a KDF fleet as well? How about Romulans?
We do have a KDF fleet called the House of S.E.C.R.E.T.S. that is open for business. Actually if you just want to join the KDF side and not even bother with the Feds, that's totally fine too. We actually have one member who exclusively plays KDF. Romulans are welcome to join which ever faction you like! We have room for you in both!
Fleet chat channel
Because we have a KDF fleet, we have a custom chat channel in game that we use so that Feds and KDF players can chat with each other since custom channels are cross faction. In fact, custom channels are even cross game! Cryptic games all share a chat server, so we can chat with our friends playing CO while we play STO. It's really great. Joining this channel is the one and only requirement we have as we use this channel far more than fleet chat. You will be sent an invite to this channel upon joining us. If you do not know how to use custom channels, don't worry. We can guide you through that process. It's rather easy!
Starbase/Embassy stuff!
As of this post, we have our Fed base at T2 and Embassy at T0. Our KDF base is T1 with Embassy at T0. Yes, that isn't all that much progress compared to many other fleets. However we haven?t been recruiting everyone and anyone just for the sake of building up our holdings. We value the quality of our members over the quantity.
When it comes to donating for projects, we leave that up to our members. If you would like to participate, you are more than welcome. If you don't like the whole starbase system, then you don't have to participate at all. Feel free to ignore the whole fleet holdings system as we will never force anyone to donate to projects.
Time zones?
We are primarily U.S. based. We do have some members who are EU though. We don't have any restrictions on who joins us, just be aware that we are most active during U.S. time. I am EST myself.
Naming conventions
Last point here. We aren't the immersion police so we really don't care too much on what you name your characters. However, If you are naming yourself or your ships after various private body parts or sexual acts you will be rejected. We have put this in place as we have seen too many other captains flying around with rather vulgar names and we choose not to associate with them. Otherwise name yourself and your ships as you see fit.
What it all comes down to:
We aren't looking to be the biggest, baddest, or the best fleet out there. We are just looking for some cool people to join us and hang out while enjoying something we all love: Star Trek. Whether you are a new player or a salty old space Captain, all are welcome. So if you are looking for a casual based primarily PVE fleet, come check us out!
If we sound like a good match, you can leave a post here in this thread or send a mail or /tell to one of the following people:
@Lantesh@BlueRabbit501
Please be sure to include your Character@Handle name with your reply so we can get that invite to you. If you have questions, comments, or concerns, please post them here or send me a PM and I'll get back to you as soon as humanly possible.
See you in space!
Comments
The community over on the CO side will be hosting an in game memorial for him today, April 12, at 6pm server time. That's 6pm PDT/9pm EDT. All Dept. S / House of S.E.C.R.E.T.S. members are invited to join us. If you don't play CO that is fine. We may speak a few words on our channel, so feel free to log on in STO and we will keep you up to date on the details as it happens.
In honor of his memory, I have renamed one of my ships as the U.S.S. Angel of Caine. The Caine will continue on helping those in his spirit and Boldly Going Where No One Has Gone Before.
R.I.P Angel.

In other news we have now seriously started building up our Fed embassy and our KDF base is making good progress too. Looking good!
