I agree for the most part. But they haven't hyped something like this before. F2P almost came in as a whimper compared to this. So if they were ever going to turn things around it would be now.

ive had about enough of this TRIBBLE stop with this nonsense of "turning it around" since going F2p they have turned it around the roi for them is high and as far as PW is concerned this game is a cash cow for them now and to be honest (flame me if you want) no matter what they do YOU will stil be here because you love startrek plain and simple and im not talking fair weather fans but the hardcore fans YOU will stay and YOU will like it no matter what they do and they know that and I know that so im happy with all the lockboxes and such and the ways they come up with to make money because if they don't then this thing gets shut down and they are doing well right now so turning it around has already been done as far as making money ....and never forget yourself sir MONEY is what its all about

We know nothing until it's on tribble. I have the feeling that the Romulan Faction will be known as the "Grindfest Faction".

We will just have to wait and see.

No. Not any earlier than May. Been waiting too long to bother getting my hopes up, yet.

Wrong. So very wrong. I love Star Wars, too, but refuse to waste my time on SWTOR. I've loved Star Trek far longer, but there's a limit to the number of gaffes and misrepresentations I'll tolerate. I'm simply waiting for a) another (specific) game to be released, and b) to see if this expansion is even 70% as good as they make it sound. I will certainly be gone when "a" happens if "b" isn't met or exceeded. As in "deleting ten level 50 characters and uninstalling the game" gone. Not just "gone for now" gone.

My faith in Cryptic is still at the same level as it was after Season 7 came out.

    Zero.

And it will stay that way until I see more quality of life improvements, less bone-headed marketing and design decisions, and a better handling of overall game quality. I want this game to succeed and I will continue to voice my concerns about the metric crapton of issues this game still has.

My recent burn from games like GW2 and LOTRO actions that those devs took on their games post launch and with expansions have left me a little cautious now. So I'd have to say, I'll be watching definitely but it does appear that they are taking things seriously now.

One can only hope that the imbalance suffered from poor design choices will be fixed when referring to the space escort only focus that we've seen only grow since this title went F2P.

My only problem is: If we are to believe that everything is working as intended right now before this is launched then the star trek universe without any timeline changes or special scripts would not have been a show about exploration or ships charting the unknown aspects of our galaxy but more like the alternate universe that was changed by the displacement of the Enterprise C where all ships in the Federation would be heavily armed and all would be ships of war.

I hope they have seriously considered changing that aspect of this game so that it can return to what Star Trek, ie Gene's vision of this IP really was.

It is what they do that defines them. All I know is that previous updates have been marginally what they promised and buggy pieces of mess.

So no, not by a long shot

Cryptic has always been good in hyping things, and rarely at the follow through.Take everything they say with a big pinch of salt and just wait and see what they deliver.

I am very much in a 'wait and see' mode right now. On the one hand, an actual, honest-to-goodness romulan faction fills me with joy. On the other hand, all indicators point to the Romulan faction being a 'freedom fighter' faction that overthrows the Romulan Star Empire and establishes the Romulan Republic, which does not sit well with me at all, for me, 'Romulan' means "Romulan Star Empire' not 'Freedom Fighter' or 'Reunificationists' or whatever. Hopefully the RSE uniforms will be available, so we can RP as RSE and I can just plug my fingers in my ear and say 'nah nah nah, can't hear you threatening to kill me, Sela. I am a loyal citizen of the RSE' when I play through the episodes.

For years we've all had our doubts that Cryptic could pull it together and make this game a true Trek experience. We've sat through content drouths that lasted nearly years. Klingons have had to suffer with half a faction since launch. We've seen difficulties with stability and bugs, some of which have been persistent.

However, today, we see Cryptic's best hand yet, and the single largest change to Star Trek Online since its launch in February of 2010.

The question here, to the community, is simple. With the announcement of the new Romulan faction and a far more expanded(possibly finished) Klingon faction, and the myriad of other new additions, has your faith in Cryptic as a company been restored? strengthened? or were you one of the hopefuls that never lost it.

Sadly ATM Faith is a strong word that I'm not ready to use when referring to Cryptic, at least not yet.

I'm extremely happy that the KDF is getting some of the things that we've been screaming for since launch and I?'m overjoyed by the thought of getting the Romulan Faction.

The way I see it Cryptic is just getting STO on the track it should have been on 2 years ago and at this point all I can say is better late than never.

It's not about "faith" for me. I reserve faith for things other than entertainment.

If they make something I want to play, I'll play it. If they don't, I won't. I'm not a fan of the rep system, so I don't use it. This time they've come up with something that looks good, so I'll play it. If I enjoy it, that's fantastic. If not, I'll go play something else.

    No.

The new announcement leaves me feeling far worse then I felt before.

I am mostly a Cryptic supporter, but their handling of the KDF is inexcusable.

They have time to turn it around, but they have said nothing that leads me to believe they are working on my issues, even tho IMO they would be the simplest thing they could implement in the short term. If they think that a tutorial and level 1-20 are going to make me play my endgame KDF characters, they just aren't thinking things thru.

End game events... lack of them... drives people away... back to blue... where the events actually exist... copy/paste... solve problems... ???... profit...

    To put it simply...No.

Is hope the same as faith? :P

Just got to wait and see what accompanies the "expansion" in terms of:

What we get for free OR What we get, but have to pay for*

*Lock boxes, missing uniforms, races and the likes.

Pretty much all of this. My past experiences with Cryptic have left me jaded and cynical. The question becomes, how much is the expansion and what am I really getting for my dollar?

I think that there are too many disparate views of what Star Trek should be, ranging from a rigid trinity WoW-with-Starships to a click-through diplomacy/Sim City in space game, and too many people who are grossly disappointed and unwilling to compromise, for there to ever be a lot of expressed faith in Cryptic.

This is unfortunate because I believe in many cases they are a company who is doing the best with what they've had, which has been, at times, next to nothing. There was never a "golden age" for STO, STO sputtered along while it killed a developer and was dropped by another one, and was cobbled together rapidly. In fact, the strange thing is, a lot of the vets who were at F2P launch were screaming how horrible things were - and those same vets these days look to those pre-F2P days as the "good old days."

So in terms of expressed faith, I don't think you're going to see a lot more, especially since the disgruntled are more likely to voice their opinion than the satisfied, who are playing the game and not on the forums. Time will tell for the playerbase as a whole, though.

Let's see ... , the 'new' teaser trailer showed 2-3 new ships ?
Player expectation is lead to believe that we'll be getting 1.2 factions + UI changes , ect .

See the 'slight' discrepancy between the two ?

    Yeah .

    No faith left .
At least not the kind you're looking for .
    Sorry .

To OP. I am positively awaiting to see the result, but whatever I think of Cryptic will not change before I have seen the result. I keep my expectations very low, in a sort of mental selfdefence mechanism against utter dissapointment.

While I don't agree with the group of KDF players already trashing Cryptic thinking all they did for the KDF was lover the start Level to 1 and add a KDF tutorial

Thinking? Who is thinking? Its exactly what they said the KDF was getting. dstahl was very clear on that point.
I havent played yet but just from reading the promo all I can say is WOW!!!!!!!!

they showed a low quality trailer that explained nothing, added about a paragraph at best of info that also said nothing and are keeping tight lipped about everything else. that doesn't scream 'wow'
ive had about enough of this TRIBBLE stop with this nonsense of "turning it around" since going F2p they have turned it around

no they haven't. gee, a romulan planet thats nearly a carbon copy of the already existing tholian planet and next to useless starbases that offer nothing but grind and a drain on resources. you have a funny way of defining 'turning things around'
as far as PW is concerned this game is a cash cow for them now and to be honest (flame me if you want) no matter what they do YOU will stil be here because you love startrek plain and simple and im not talking fair weather fans but the hardcore fans YOU will stay and YOU will like it no matter what they do and they know that and I know that so im happy with all the lockboxes and such and the ways they come up with to make money because if they don't then this thing gets shut down and they are doing well right now so turning it around has already been done as far as making money ....and never forget yourself sir MONEY is what its all about

you know every word you said here supports a very bad thing right? that is exactly what they should be steering away from. you want money? happy customers make you money, not ones that keep getting the shaft
I'm extremely happy that the KDF is getting some of the things that we've been screaming for since launch and I?'m overjoyed by the thought of getting the Romulan Faction.

except that they're getting nothing. people have been making assumptions. they haven't even gotten the idea of a tutorial confirmed past the discussion stage yet - they said this themselves

frankly I don't believe they will get even half of what they are claiming, finished by may. and thats being generous. their track record is proof of that

If getting a new STF every few months and getting a new FE or Feature series every few weeks does not count as a "golden age" for you (as things were between S.1-S.4) , then I do have to wonder what would ?

I signed up with them for life, and life is not over. That inspires some faith. Perhaps not directly going into the actual labours per se. But I'm very impressed in a metaphysical sense.

Fair enough, getting love letters from them in the mail could count as bribery and produce sentimental statements. Maybe. :P

This announcement really does nothing but worry me more, the game is already a collection of half finished pet projects. I am firmly in the "wait and see" crowd as well. Meanwhile despite all this fleecing players continues regardless.

I am in the wait see category aswell. However, allowing players to start kdf from the start is a good thing. It means more new players will begin as kdf an spend money on kdf. Which intern will give funds to add to kdf content.

And adding romulans will bring old players back and get new players in. This announcement is big time. And deserves a "wow".

There are still unanswered questions, namely romulan fleets? Or will rommies be allowed to join either side. Which kinda fits into the embassy thing.

Let's just say that after the Valentine's Day debacle, lack of news on new content, and more star base fluff, I was nearly to the point of asking for a refund on my life-time membership. Now, some of my faith has been restored, but I'm still cautiously optimistic. We will have to just see how the Romulan faction plays out. It is definitely exciting, though. You can imagine how hard the servers are going to explode on May 21rst. My gawd will they explode! Cryptic should definitely have the following disclaimer put into the launcher a few days before Rommie launch: "Be advised: servers will probably explode so there is a 99.9% chance that we will have to do emergency maintenance on the servers the night of the 21rst. "
