i think they should add the light cruiser as a hanger pet so that fed carriers can have an equal counterpart to the bird of prey hanger pet having forward and aft phaser array and photon torpedo and when used come out as either centaur, miranda,or ShiKahr and corse only launces 1 per wing like the bird of prey counterpart
well the bop is same size yet "fits" on their carrier and same size as a dominion attack ship as well tho i like idea as well as a retrofit version thats flyable as well
There are some really small instances of BoPs; the smallest it could be is about 50-60m in length, meaning you could hypothetically have a BoP half the length of the Defiant or smaller.
The size of the Miranda-class has never been established, and the Defiant regularly changes sizes, but the Miranda on screen is at least 170m and possibly as much as 260m; the Defiant is between 110 and 180m depending on who you ask.
I don't know exactly how the BoP hangar pets are scaled in STO, but it's quite possible that they are in fact the very, very small variants, more like torpedo boats than full birds of prey.
The Aquarius Escort is probably in the 30-60m range; it may have been mentioned somewhere but if so I don't know it off the top of my head.
On the other side of the range, the Danube-class is the largest Federation smallcraft in the game and is about 23m in length.
Finally, the Jem'Hadar Attack Ship appears to be between 65 and 130m, depending on who you ask.
We can therefore divide the available smallcraft pets into a couple of general categories:
Small (Fighter, up to about 25m length):
Peregrines, Stalkers, shuttles.
Medium (large auxiliary ships, probably in the 25-60m range):
Aquarius Escort
Danubes?
Large (frigate hangar pets, probably between 60-110m length):
Bird of Prey Hangar
Jem'Hadar Attack Ship Hangar
(presumably the Kar'fi's frigates?)
Using Defiants or Mirandas as Federation frigate-grade hangar pets is probably inappropriate; they are almost certainly too large.
There are a couple of potential options for Federation craft in that range, however.
1. Mission Scoutship, Insurrection. In the ~25m range, much like the Danube, but apparently built around the same design ethos as the Defiant.
2. Calypso-class Captain's Yacht, Insurrection. In the 30-35m range, larger than the Danube but nowhere near as the large as the others.
3. Aeroshuttle (Voyager). In the 25-30m range; apparently similar in design to the Danube.
I don't believe we have seen any mid-size frigates that would fit into the 'large/small' category, and they don't really suit the Federation's design ethos, anyway; both the Dominion and the Klingons seem to use theirs as raiders, while the Federation's Mirandas and Defiants stand in the line of battle, even though they're small.
What you're likely to get instead is basically a 'large shuttle'; probably something similar in role to the Danube, where its control effects are more important than its direct damage. What exactly that would be I couldn't say; at one point I suggested something like the Aeroshuttle with phaser beam arrays and subsystem target: auxiliary and extend shields (or something in that line).
You are trying to bring in canon-logic into STO, which has departed the canon on a rocket a looooong time ago.
The issue is with the size of the miranda, rather that she's too big:
This is true as far as canon might be concerned, but then again the idea of building a carrier that carries smaller frigates into battle is just asinine from that perspective so lets not go there.
As for ingame: Neither klingon nor Fekiri nor Dominion Carrier actually have the size to in any logical way shape or form support these bops, frigates and bugships. It Just does not fit, so please kiss the size argument goodbye, it has no value here. You can bring up size inconsistency as much as you want, ingame we see what we see: freaking huge bops and bugships and fekiri frigs spawned without any sort of logistical constraint, and in the case of the karfi and dreadnought: not even with freaking hangar doors.
So, there is no reason not to give the feds bigger hangar pets for their carriers, and create one for the recluse too (orb weaver, naturally usable by weaver owner only if you want to mimic the jemmy **** move).
Heck, i would go as far and say that feds should be able to slot "holografic emitters" into hangar bays that will randomly spawn either holo frigate, or holo cruisers or holo escorts.
Atrox should get a frig that mounts dual cannons and keeps inline the design aesthetics of the Atrox.
btw: Do not tell me holo ships are an idiotic idea: Holo vorchas summoned by kdf scis regularly drop freaking bioneurals into the fight....
In fact the whole holoship concept needs expanding. Because that is the singularly "cool" ability that sci's get: Summon holo ships.
