A great idea from angry joe

Hey all,
Been awhile since I posted any of my anoying nonsense on here, anyway I was watching an angry joe video about STO and what he hoped for and stuff. One of the things he mentioned was a damage system for ships way better then ours, in which instead of damage skins, when our hull damaged sections would break off, hull would be exposed, there'd be scorch marks and it would carry over to the interiors, I think this would be awesome, sadly we dont have that, but I'd like to see it, I mean that way when we have damage we can see it until we go to a starbase for repairs, I mean like joe said, it is mainly a ship MMO and we should have more of an attachment to our ships! we spend most of our time in them after all! Think about it Cryptic! and Fellow Captains too. comments?

i agree with joe. too bad that the game was rushed out. lacking any of the things that SHOULD be in a star trek game where is the bloody cardies, romulans, etc.....

after all this time the klingons are still getting shafted.

you'd think that this being PWE best $$??? game in europe and usa that the top priorty would be fixing the mistakes that have never been addressed.

if sto is really doing that well they have no excuse to ignore a faction, and turn it into one massive grind fest. i do miss the good old pre F2P days.

Meh, I noticed in the comments to that video a person was saying re-review sto. He'd still come out with same stuff he said about it before launch since notice a few of his gripes are sto's major issues still?

Interesting though he said he was going to review it when it did come out but didn't, looking round site it looks like he gave up when he saw the beta.

Neat as that would be, they didn't even tie the doff system into repairing ship injuries so I think we can safely place this in the never going to happen pile.

Anyone who is concerned about unnecessary cosmetic additions to this game needs to back away from the petty ESD chatter and go out and actually play the game. That's my comment.

To be fair, visible ship damage beyond the superficial and very temporary "skin" damage would be cool.

However, it would also be impractical. And yes, unnecessary.

Not to mention the fact that constantly having to repair persistent cosmetic damage instead of simply playing the game and "letting the crew handle it" would get tiresome very quickly.

What I would like to see someday is something like a "enable visual damage" option. That way the role-players can turn on the damage visuals when they want them and turn them off when they don't.

Or, "battle-damaged" ship skins. But swapping those in and out at the shipyard would be a bit of a pain.
My views may not represent those of Cryptic Studios or Perfect World Entertainment. You can file a "forums and website" support ticket here

Can you tell me what about STO does not get tiresome quickly? I'd just like to understand how that is a valid balking point in the wake of what we've already seen.

Having the "injuries" that a currently ingame cause visual effects on your hull would work too.

Ya, like the devs will actually allow visual healing.

Can't you just imagine that blown off nacelle 'magically' growing back after hitting the heal button ? Reminds me of the crew that never actually dies, or should I say 'doesn't stay dead'.

For me, something like this would be extremely low priority. I would rather Cryptic focused there time and energy on game play additions and improvements as opposed to visuals.

From a digital artist's point of view, having actual damage to the model would cause performance issue.

Just having damaged skill doesn't hurt the performance, but if we start adding in debris and parts flying off, performance will suffer.

I do like Angry Joe's ideas, but I don't see it happening anytime soon from a technical aspect.

Ha, Angry Joe. Was wondering when someone would find this.

Well, he sort of reviewed it after it came out. It's more of a suggestion video though.

EDIT: Huh, guess the full video's gone.
