Returning to STO after 2 Years - Lots of questions

galland360galland360 Member Posts: 3 Arc User
Hi there everyone - I have been back to playing STO for about 3 weeks now and wow! Lots and lots of new stuff!!

The PVE is ramped up a lot (not much of a PVP player), some of the stories have changed a little bit and I am barely scratching the surface, but I have some questions and need some advice.

Questions:
As a Lifetime member, I guess there is a monthly stipend that I am suppose to get, is that in fact still in affect? I read up on it a little bit, but I am not seeing where the currency is or any deposit records. I am assuming that I can only spend this in STO and I should have approx 12k in something, somewhere?

I have some ZEN and I am pretty sure that is what I had when I took a break from STO, but again the question about the Promotional Points still remains.

Tactical PVE Builds - right now, I am trying to take in all of the changes and I am getting a little overwhelmed, so I was curious if someone can help me out with some links for a tactical PVE build? I am getting close to 50 and I was thinking either a Fleet Heavy Escort Carrier or Multi-Vector Advanced Escort.

I have been using this thread for help since I came back.

I am a casual player, so I understand that there are some components and other ship parts that will be a must, but I will just have to wait until I can be part of a PUG or something to obtain these items.

Dailies - As a level 50, which dailies should I be doing?

I have also been going through the www.stowiki.org , but there used to be a site where people would store/share their ship builds and I cannot recall that site, but found www.stoacademy.com, but they just did a revamp and the character and ship builds are not longer available.

So - that is my current round of questions and queries, thanks again in advance and I have been having a ton of fun.

    Alrighty, time to tackle this...

Yes, you should have been recieving a stipend. For awhile it was probably Cryptic points, but now it is Zen. If you want to find it, go ahead and look at the C-store in the game itself (the little coin symbol with a Z on it), or go to the C-store here on this website, and you should see it. If you have no stipend, then contact their customer support.

A Fleet HEC? You can only do that if you are in a fleet with a tier 5 shipyard (which there aren't many atm). A normal HEC or MVAE are still good ships. I own the HEC myself. Even though you don't PvP, asking around in that area of the forum is still a very excellent source of information.

As for dailies, don't worry about em as much as you might think. They are mostly for dilithium. There's still plenty of ways to earn dil regardless.

If you don't mind me saying, you might want to look at joining PvP Boot Camp (or at least it's next go around since the first one is almost over), because what will help you considerably in both re-learning the game, and possibly learning a lot that you didn't know before.
I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.
I must admit, respect points to Trendy for laying down the law like that.

In short, for PvE, the two most common and effective builds are DHC front/turret aft 'blaster boats' and Dual-Beam Bank Overloading shield facings to sink torpedos into hulls.

Former is easier to use, but is a bit more range sensitive. Your best damage will come at close range, where you'll also be closer to danger.

The latter requires a bit more finesse and timing, but can kill things very quickly.

As for dailies, I would highly recommend the Tau Dewa Patrol mission(once you hit 50) as there are a lot of different encounters that will stress test your ship in different ways(Hirogen use a lot of buff-stripping and disables, Gorn punish short range engagement and fighters, Klingons are a raw damage test, etc.). They're a good way to get your bearings and give any new ship/setup a shakedown cruise before throwing it to the wolves.

It will also give you a couple days worth of Romulan marks for the reputation grind and a bunch of loot to vendor. However, if you're after Dilithium, you're going to want to look into the PvE queues, Red Alerts and other such things.

    Firstly -

Thanks for the support and the replies -

Okay, the FLEET related stuff is all new and I think I am going to lean towards the HEC (getting used to the acronyms and all) and I am currently running with the DHC and turret layout and it is fun!

PVP Bootcamp is a tutorial that is from K7?

If anyone could possibly list out some build and BO abilities, that would be helpful.

    again,
    thanks
