Modest Request for the Art Team (Foundry-related)

I have what I think is a fairly simple and modest request for someone at Cryptic who knows how to texture a floor with a seamless texture. I wanted to illustrate it, so I posted it at Starbase UGC.

Could someone on the art team please check it out? I'm not asking for you to directly add something to the Foundry, but to simply texture some "primitives" with textures that are already in your library. Then, perhaps Zero could add them into the Foundry.

    I approve of this request.

    I can think of a million ways to expand on this, but for now and with the limited dev time available (what with the May update and all) this is reasonable.

    I agree. Just a couple of these small additions would bring a world of new options.

    It would be very nice to have those textures available as new ceilings & floors. :)

    They would definitely add a lot to the believability of the sets we can build, hence add more immersion to them.

    PS: I love to walk on carpets! :cool:

    This is an absolute must for us to be able to build convincing interiors.

    Seems to me like it would be as simple as making a copy of the platform pieces we have now and applying a new texture to them.

    The starbase maps, the interior maps and the Captains Table all have great floor textures that could be used.

    I'm with the dead green lady on this one. We dont even have all the textures that are on the foundation block pieces for our building block assets.

    Yeah then I can build that epic mission where your toon shuffles his feet in a custom interior and gives someone a little shock.

    I agree with the OP's post, especially with the ceiling light parts. I really need those instead of a blank, paneled ceiling.

    I agree completely. As useful as the stone is, I wouldn't mind sacrificing one of the versions to a nice shipboard carpeting texture. :)

    Thanks Capt, but I hope it makes more sense to add more versions than replace one. If my stone slabs suddenly changed to carpet, it would wreck a temple I made.

    I whole-heartedly agree with this. As I mentioned in my comment on the StarbaseUGC post, it's something that has been needed to be added for a while now. Especially seeing as the Transporter rooms that were added yesterday have a different ceiling and a carpeted floor, I would certainly like to be able to make a seamless transition from the transporter room to a custom interior.

    Also an addendum to this would be a variety in the wall textures. Federation ones are fairly limited considering the cryptic-made maps and the walls they had in them and that really there's only 1 type of wall that even remotely works.

    Also can I have a job working for cryptic? I know there's a game designer position going and I'd be happy to work on the foundry and increasing the textures and details available for UGC authors.

    From what we know from some interviews, Zero can only add in things that:

    A. Have already been made.
    B. Can be found in a library that is cryptic to her.

    She probably couldn't texture a primitive. So we'd need someone on the art or whichever team to do what is probably an easy and quick task, then zero could add them in if she has time to do so.

    I'm kind of guessing simply based on my own experience with 3d software, modding, etc. I would be surprised if couldn't be done easily and painlessly by a nice dev.

    Just one of those carpets or a texture with ceiling lights would be amazingly useful for us.

    I would like to see all of the foundation block textures on all the building block textures too. There are nice stone wall textures and a rusty looking generic ship like textures.

    This would be ideal. I've long requested it. I doubt we'll get that kind of art + programmer = new feature for STO's foundry.

    It would be amazing though. One primitive, with a drop down costume list to choose from carpet to grass.

    and if were throwing requests around here. there are console pictures for contact popups why not any PADDs? and Tricorders?

    you can be wandering around and hit a waypoint that would set off your tricorder and the message box would have a tricorder in the picture box instead of putting a BOFF's picture in the box. :confused: some missions have you by yourself why would a boff pop up to tell you your tricorders beeping about something. there not even there :mad: !

    on the topic of new features - captain only beam down.

    Some of us foundry authors are in fleets and like making fleet-centric missions. Having a entire away team beam down when you're in a map that has no enemies is freaking strange. Also some people like the idea of covert missions and having an entire squad when you're aiming for a single person covert missions just doesn't work.

    Contacts and NPCs have an "Advanced Behavior" tab - why not add one to the Spawn Point object called Settings and you can set the number of your away team to beam down (as some cryptic maps allow only 1 officer and other 2 - this would add a HUGE amount of diversity to foundry missions as a story point) or just captain only. If it's set to captain only - then set the mission that it can't be played in a team - some of us make missions designed for teams and some of us make them for just your captain.

    Those, in addition to the blank primitive with a texture picker or retextured primitives are in my eyes desperately needed.

    Smaller additions that would be nice to see are a weather detail that has no oxygen. That way missions will open up that allow for space-walking and things like that - maybe a recreation of First Contact where Picard, Worf and Lieutenant Hawk space walk to the deflector dish.

    And shuttle only options for space maps would be nice.

    And equipping NPCs so they can use items in their inventory - adding realism.

    And cross-class ship costumes to make completely custom ships for new alien races.

    And Starfleet Acadamy style windows.

    And gardens.

    And cookies.

    Simple, just make a starship physically impossible to go through something, but the shuttle can. Like a small hole or something.

    On the subject of windows, how about some regular flat windows to start with?
