I haven't played in a long time. My main is a tactical but I'm open to starting a new character. I mostly play solo but I love escorts. I've noticed a lot of things have changed and I need some advice.
So here are my questions.
1.) What are the top current end game escorts?
2.) Anybody out there using an engie/escort or sci/escort? I might level an alt but I'm not sure which.

Thanks in advance for your replies.
1.) if you have the Zen to spend, the Kumari (or more specifically, its sci and eng variants) rock out loud.
-or-
!f you have the energy credits and don't mind flying what looks like a gross giant purple scarab beetle, the Jem'Hadar attack ship is allegedly the best ship in the game.
-or-
If you have access to a fleet starbase with the right upgrades (I don't and I don't care so I don't know exactly what those upgrades are) the Fleet Defiant gives the JHAS a run for its money.
-or-
If you prefer a carrier escort, the Armitage is a terrific ship. The Jem'Hadar Escort Carrier is an alternative if you like ugly.
-or-
If you don't have fleet access/modules/credits etc. or Zen or loads of EC, the Mirror Patrol/Advanced Escorts are extremely cheap on the exchange and easily good enough to clear all PvE content including elite STFs. In the right hands they can even hold their own in PvP. (They're just the Hermes/Prometheus wearing each others skins. The Mirror Patrol can use the MVAM console from the Advanced Escort Retrofit.)
2.) Yes. I haven't leveled my Fed eng. all the way up yet but I got him a captain-level Tactical Escort (Sao Paulo-class) recently and he's loving it. My Sci is currently alternating between a DSSV (Intrepid Retro) and a mirror Advanced Escort. Having SNB and Photonic Fleet and Grav Well 1 and CRF3 and four DHCs on the same ship is enormous fun.
3.) I don't yet, but many do and love it. Its another combination that seems like a lot of fun.

Fleet Defiant Retrofit is probably the "best" escort for the average player in terms of raw power - IMO the Jem'Hadar attack ship is not in range of most people at this time.
Kumaris are great, not a big fan of the looks though.
Fleet Patrol escort is up there, tad more survivability than the Fleet Defiant and almost as much stopping power.
My personal favorite is the M?bius - and arguably, the most overpriced, since for maximum viability you need the M?bius, the Wells for its console, and 600 lobi for the temporal warfare set. Oh and the Aeon shuttle for the cool graphite skin. Its easily the most fun ship I've played in STO.
As said in the previous post, the mirror escorts are also a viable cheap alternative.
The armitage is also quite popular, as is the jem hadar escort carrier.
Most importantly, almost any T5 or T5.5 escort can be awesome in the right hands, find one you like, then go forth and kick TRIBBLE :-)
My guess is "hope" keeps people not playing but posting on the forums. For others, its a path of sad realization and closure. Grieving takes time. The worst "haters" here love the game, or did at some point.
My Sci is currently alternating between a DSSV (Intrepid Retro) and a mirror Advanced Escort.
A point I'd like to fix. The DSSV is not the Intrepid Retrofit. the Intrepid Retrofit is the Long Range Science Vessel Retrofit. The DSSV is the 'shoe' looking sci ship you can get for free at RA.
I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.
I must admit, respect points to Trendy for laying down the law like that.

That's right. I keep mixing up my science classes.

Unsolicited advice; Follow the MST3K Mantra at all times while playing.
This.
Also, the best builds and ability combos in the game are the ones that make you laugh when you use them. Like a grav well full of warp plasma and tricobalt mines.

Absolutely! This might be my favourite build in the game. I swap the tricobalts for the Breen clusters though. Hit 'em with the Gravity Well, fire my forward cluster, swoop past with the Warp Plasma, fire my rear cluster on the way out of the soup. If you have the console you could even throw a Graviton Pulse in there.
Well thanks for the replies everybody. Since I have more money than time I guess I will pick up one of the ships from the store for now and start farming fleet points (whatever they are called). A lot of the "best" ships seem to be totally RNG dependent.
Well I haven't flown many other ships so I can't really compare.
But I can say what I think: it's agile and fun to fly, and does it's job decent for solo play. I can't tank in it much, but I use to "hit and run" attack and let the hangar fighters do their job. You need to be atleast half awake to fly this ship.. Also I think it's the best (or second best) looking ship in-game.
---> Anti nerfcriers disclaimer: The Vesta is too weak and needs a huge powerboost. <---
All of the end-game Escorts are good, it just depends on what exactly you're looking for. Personally, I swear by my Steamrunner. It doesn't put out as much damage as some others, but if you set it up right it's virtually indestructible, especially with an Engineering Captain. The only issue I have with it is I would REALLY like more Science abilities (The only Sci. Boff station is an Ensign, but other than that it's a lot of fun.

Yes. If you get the MVAM off the MVAE, it will fit on the Fleet version.
If you are interested as well, I'd enjoy making my...sales pitch (:p) for my fleet if you wish to hear.

Hilarious amounts of chaos.
Yep.
And welcome back.
How is it? Fun, powerful, interesting?
And thank you.
I have a friend who absolutely adores his.
