I am currently grinding Rom marks via Mine Trap, and I am starting to notice that almost every run, there is at least one person who logs into zone... and stays in that one place until the event ends.
This is ridiculous that you must go with a 4 (wo)man team because someone KNOWS they will still get marks even if they are AFK the entire event, so they zone in and go AFK, leaving the team to pick up his slack, usually to disaster (buildings/zone lost).
I was curious to know what Cryptic's view on this is, and if there is anything we as players can do about "AFKers" to eliminate the practice.
at the moment you can a) ignore them and just get on with the mission or b) report them.
i cant guarantee cryptic will do anything about them, and they also wont tell you as any punishment is a private matter but if you feel inclined to report them then do so.
other than that just wait until cryptic add a way to stop it.
I really don't get the entire "punishment as a private matter" thing. It defeats the entire point of punishment, which is to serve as a gruesome object lesson for others. The only reason for such a claim is simply because it doesn't, and they wish to conceal their ineffectualness in doing anything about the matter.
On the other hand, I am not entirely enthused by the fascistic overtones in these particular threads seeking dire punishments upon those who simply don't play by their standards.

Actually, punishment is mostly supposed to serve as a lesson for the person in question these days. That's why we stopped doing things like putting prisoners on display in town squares.
Great, it's the only non-bunny-tagging mission that rewards even half of a fair pay-out for effort investment.
It's a solution, you don't have to like it. if you want better mark payouts for other activities I have no objection to that, but I don't get to make that decision.
I'll sell you some weapons from New Romulus. Never fired, only dropped once.

You could stop running missions that allow for that sort of thing if it bothers you.

On a 20 player map, good idea...
