was thinking of what other races that may be in a playable Romulan Faction, then remember something I read in the mission Mine Enemy, one of the Tal Shiar spying consoles made mention that Sela was meeting up the the True Way, so it got me thinking, dose this mean we could see playable Cardassians in the Romulan Faction? Also, if that is true, dose this mean the faction will have a non lockbox variant of the Galor aswell as other Cardassian ships?
As a third faction, at least before all this Romulan material came about, I was rooting for a joint Cardassian-Romulan Hybrid Faction (a Tal Shiar - Obsidian Order Rebirth Alliance of sorts). I even created a subject here on it, and there was some lengthy discussion.
Unfortunately though, from the feedback, it seemed more people were against the idea than they were for it. Thus, if the Devs do take notice of what is said here, they'll have seen that and not made plans to implement it.
As it stands though, every current main species can pretty much be used already. If you're playing FED you can use Klingon and Romulan Boffs, if you're Klingon, you can use Romulan Boff's (and with alien creator, Human). Cardassians wouldn't ever be unique to a Romulan faction, especially when we already have Cardassian Doffs universal to all.
As far as the Galor is concerned, for a playable Cardassian Ship (non lock box) you'd probably get a lower-tiered variant (equivalent to an Excelsior or Ambassador). The Lock Box Variant would still be unique in it's own right as a more powerful version.

Yeah but the average poster on this forum has an unrealistic grasp on how much time/effort that Cryptic can/will invest into a third or fourth faction.

Galor as a standard Tier-5 with a Fleet Variant equivalent to the lockbox ship minus the special bells and whistles like the spiral phaser arrays. It's doable, hard for anyone to even argue it's unfair to lockbox winners.
As much as I want to see an independent playable Romulan faction, I also want to see an independent playable Cardassian faction as well as other independent playable factions.
There is a subtle underlying reason for this madness I continue to exhibit here on the forums - more playable factions = even more content to be generated for players to enjoy in STO. So many more opportunities for story content when you add in additional playable factions while expanding the current known STO universe.
If you just combine playable factions and roll them up into the current factions then there is no urgent need to create any faction specific content.
I would much rather see STO become Chinese checkers with 6 playable factions than I would like to see it remain just 2-player regular checkers.
there is also a logic with an alliance between playable Romulans and the True Way. If there is a playable Romulan Faction, for the sake of PVP it will probably be a group of Romulans that want to preserve there old ways, Not D'tan's New Romulans who want everyone to get along. Due to the Choas and threat of enemies within and outside Romulan space, this faction would want to make alliances with others with similar goals, and the one other group that comes to mind that wants their people to go back to thier ways of secrecy and deception are the True Way. And as I pointed out before, there is something in the game that states Sela was interested with an alliance with the True Way.
Besides, Romulans with Cardassians dose make way more sence than Klingons with Orions

If there was some sort of territory control and far more sandbox elements this game would work like that. Not in it's current incarnation though. Nooooo.....
I would like as many independent factions as possible with minor races supporting them as needed for game play balance and options with unique skills and ablities consistent with cannon.
If you are looking for an excellent PvE fleet consider: Omega Combat Division today.
