Simply put: Do power drain attacks cause Agro from mobs?
I ask becuase of experinces in an STF last night, where I got, and kept Agro from the Scimitar dread in KASE. I was in a Breen Crusier built around power drain attacks. We had an Andorian Escort. I'm just an average player so there's no masisve ammount of DPS, or fancy tricks coming from me, so how was I able to steal and keep the Agro? Eveven the most ineptly flown escort should be able to generate high levels of agro (Load DHC's and turrets, 100 power to weapons, press space bar).
The only answer I can think off is the multitude of power drains I was hitting the Scimitar with were causing higher levels of Agro?
Nope, as long as you dont use the combatlog, you cant be sure wether or not another ship makes more dps.
I have seen Taticals on Escorts -even Andorian- doing 2-3k dps. The broad side: There is no pay2win here, because bad players with the best ships stay bad players and good players can do damage with every kind of ship (or excel with every kind of ship).
Yes power drain does infact generate a large amount of agro from NPCs. It is why I use polaron beams on my Tac Oddy who tanks like a boss. Ok that is a lie I really just wanted to see what purple plasma fire procs looked like.
How much agro does it generate? I have no idea but it does infact generate some amount.
Many science skills generate an inordinate amount of aggro, as does EWP.
Running my Wells with EWP, GW3, Tykens2 and torp spread tends to make me the designated tank in any team, unless there's some really impressive spike damage going on.
I suspect it's a mechanic to allow sci's to get aggro despite having less weapon slots and/or running less weapons power.
I was wondering this myself. According to the Fleet members I was chatting with at the time, it has to do with debuffs like drains and also throwing out heals-as well as stuff like Gravity Well-getting the enemies attention.
Which would explain why my Mirror Trident piloted by my Sci with 0 points in Threat Control grabs so much of it.
I am NEVER calling my avatars 'toons'.
Some people buy Tier V ships and expect to automatically win. Other people buy Tier V ships and are Tier V pilots

TR and GW bypasses shields and deals damage directly to the hull, obviously you get more aggro then some escort hammering on the shields. After the shields fail, it takes some time for the escort to compensate for the lesser damage when shields were holding.
Draining subsystem power does generate a massive, ungodly amount of aggro.
I used to use a Vo'Quv for my KDF Tac officer, because I felt like it.
Anyway, back when the Siphon Drones were fire-and-forget weapons, I'd throw them en-masse at whatever I wanted to "tank" and sit outside of it's weapons range while it was completely shut down...such as doing it to the Tac Cube in ISE while working over the Gate, or to a Negh'var spawn in CSE and concentrating on something else or what have you.
Tactic still works, you just need to now target what you want to Siphon Tank. And yes, I did sit out of it's weapons range and put my trollface on while it lumbered after me like a sick tortoise.
Plus, if you want to do it to a Gate in KASE, you can ensure that your Escort buddies can go get all warm and cuddly with the gate without them getting smacked around.
One obvious possibility that nobody has mentioned: the other people in your group might have had threat-reducing consoles.
A possability, but in the Andorian Escorts case I think not. Thier piloting style seemed somewhat spasmodic, and one other person in the STF comented on this. So one can guess that their build was equally off.
He was jsut flying from Gate to gate, only taking passing pot shots at the target. Equally when he was on my side and triggered a cube, the Cube Attacked him, my Aceton bouy, then me.
Just I wondered if Power drain can trigger the Aggro. From now on I'll take more care.

PS: Purple plasma does look pretty cool.
