ok another question: the star trek game that is coming out in may of this year, will it effect sto? i realise it is not a mmorpg but it is a game non the less.

It's a third person squad based shooter from a company with a history for mediocre squad based shooters.
Unless the multiplayer is revolutionary*, it's going to be a blip on the gaming radar - people will buy it, probably even just rent it, blow through the campaign in four days, and sell it back.
Other that, genre gap is still there just like Star Craft, and the fact that it's JJ-verse to drive away the post-Voyager purists. But mainly, it looks like a good-for-licensed-shovelware (i.e. mediocre) shooter.
*-it won't, the team behind this game is generally known for copying things that prove revolutionary. In this case they've compared it to Mass Effect entirely more than I'm comfortable with.

Hm, no offense but you have no clue do you?
They already have a working, pretty dang successful platform for this, battle.net.

battle.net? What does that have to do with the Star Trek game? You didn't read the post the quote or the thread, you just read the thread title and OP and thought that was enough, didn't you? So who has no clue now?

If you look up you'll see that I posted here before you so yes I know what the thread WAS about, I didn't pay attention to your quote though. lol sorry

I highly doubt it. It's just another run of the mill co-op shooter with a Star Trek paint job serving as a prequel of sorts for Into Darkness (with Gorn!). So if you're one of those super hyped for JJ's next film and need the fix, it's probably worth a rental at least.
And where did this StarCraft concern come from anyway? Heart of the Swarm is the next installment/expansion for StarCraft II, which came out in 2010, with a third and final installment planned in the near future. This is targeted towards a different audience of gamers (RTS crowd) so this wouldn't affect STO in the slightest either.

There are actually more people than you think that will probably leave for a while.
Whatever happened to being able to enjoy multiple genres of games? I know I'll be sucked away for a few weeks/months with both SimCity and Heart of the Swarm coming out this month.
Heck, I still have nights where I get sucked into FTL or DayZ instead of logging into STO.

I'm definitely going to reduce my time in STO for HotS. I've never been a *big fan* of SC - I liked it but I grew up with CnC so I don't/didn't get that whole "Blizzard butchered everything" movement. "Wings of Liberty" was one of the very few games in recent years that I've actually completed. So I'm looking forward to the continuation...
Great! Only three left. Now all I need is for one of them to leave the room and then there will be only one left...
Wait, where I come from three minus one still leaves two!
Where I come from is a far more interesting place.

They can both stand proudly side by side!
I think this http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=567291
And no it's not gonna be a competition in the long run I think, perhaps some STOers like myself will get it and play inbetween though.
Honestly though, I found that what was fun about the original Star Craft, was missing from Star Craft 2.

Lol ok, now I won't be able to sleep for a week.

And you say my links are bad.... O_e
At least this one is easily fixed with 3 loops of the Heart of the Swarm "Vengeance" trailer.
"Last Engage! Magical Girl Origami-san" is in print! Now with three times more rainbows.
Support the "Armored Unicorn" vehicle initiative today!
Thanks for Harajuku. Now let's get a real "Magical Girl" costume!
Yeh.. looks like you got some competition. :P
But I am the Linkmaster!
