How can you create an alien that looks different from any of the federation or KDF races. I am trying to create a story in the foundry about a new race. Any help would be appreciated.

Dark skin. Give him/her an impressive tan. Maybe add some kawaii animu eyes!

If you want a character that looks 'Trek', just start with a human shape, add a forehead and/or nose accessory of your choice, skin complexion and pattern, and some form of ears if desired. This has the benefit of being easily transferable to a large number of visually distinct characters who are recognizably of the same race. The more it looks like an actor in makeup and a cheap silicon prosthetic, the more it will look like Star Trek!

This. Honestly. One of my personal races uses a rubber forehead, and it looks good lol.

True Startrek races are humans with a funny face. But let's stay realistic, it was a tv show from the sixties. Who would have done it better?

I myself have a lot of alien characters. They are more or less the same, since they form a race. They are dwarves. There were not much dwarves in the Startrek universe, so I made them with human features. They look like small humans. Their skin is red, because everything else is blue, green etc. They are inspired by dwarves, humans and native americans, red dwarves,

Take a human... then edit either or all the ears, forehead and nose details.. boom done.

failing that as soemone said.. just hit random until you find something that looks "cool"

I did. Just published a Foundry mission with 'em too.

Check out "The Aquilian Galaxy Harvester" on the Foundry to see the species! :D /shameless plug

ALL of you have given me lots of good ideas, though I want my character to have an "Aquatic" look about them. Things like ridges or spikes on head, sharp teeth, maybe a fish-like tail for when my away-team battles them in water. The fish-tail part may be asking too much!... Can that be done as Well?

Sadly there are no "tails" at all, much less some fishy ones. :( I really wish there were more parts. You can do quite a bit with the one we currently have though.

That IS a bummer! because my Aquatic Race will be linked to an Earth legend. Maybe the artists and programmers at Cryptic will include such "fish-tail" options....After all maybe some life-forms could be Ocean dwellers. I'll have to give them legs, and explain it in my story until Cryptic gives us more choices!
