He told me the folk at Cryptic really are working thier tooshies off, and some have been putting in stupidly long hours and have had to be told to "go home, get some sleep dammit!" A great many 60+ hour weeks happening across the board, including a couple instances of being woken up at the keyboard in the morning with a Peets and a scone. (I'm not sure if I belive that though.. I don't know if they have a Peets coffee down south that far..)
Look, I hate the way this is going to sound but given the fact that they are working with an established game engine and systems and they have allegedly been working so long and increased the staff so much ... it makes one wonder just how they fail , constantly, to deliver and improve the game.
I mean, if we compare them to other MMO companies that have a much smaller staff that every month or so release quality add-ons to their product to STO which releases nothing but bug-riddled, copy/paste items (most of which don't work properly due to 2+year old bugs they havent bothered to fix..*cough* comm decloak bug).... we see a very sad pattern emerging.
That is a pattern typical of PWE games. The games they own are left to simply wither and die with minimum investment and effort put into them as long as they can keep milking the miniscamtransaction scheme built within the game. Once the game dies they dump it, use the engine its based on to make a clone that is equally as bad and repeat the process.
I just don't believe all this alleged time and effort is put into STO. I think its being put towards other products.... the stuff that has come to STO is nothing short of poor and mismanaged stuff. Hell, they don't even test TRIBBLE before pushing it to live.
I really am not expecting much of anything to be honest.
Where would Cryptic have any time for the KDF amid:
Huge Romulan content introduction (May)
Updated Character Creator
New UI improvements
Release of more Fed ships as discussed by Al.? Al mentioned "maybe" the Regent's Negh'var was being "considered". There are no other mention of any KDF specifics this year - In a 1 1/2 hour podcast about upcoming ships.
Possible Rep. System for PvP?
Just taking these I wouldn't be surprised if there is nothing this update. Honestly.
I hate it to the point I want them to look at the history. Being that it took us 2 1/2 years to get a cat race which we have been promised since launch, almost 1/2 for Gorn, barley reaching 25 ships, only having 8 missions promised a Gorn or more FE (BTW most FED Episodes are KDF Related AND involve the same problems WITH KDF like Borg, Dominion, Romulan, FEDvsKDF etc) And being that you worked on FED 85% and KDF 15% during before beta, we came out as PvP, which I am atleast happy you began fixing a little cause with thoses Jem'Harads, wed be dead gagh for the vultures. I am still mad that over this year honestly you have done nothign but cross faction by cross faction. Noting unique for KDF at all except for a VERY VERY late cat. I dont care anymore. I try to enjoy with what I have. Why complain if you know nothing will change unless they do. I admire this post because atleast we know not to get our hopes up. But I will try my best to stay here.. itis fun.

What a load of BS. Everyone knows all the devs are prejudiced Fed players that don't care if the KDF is destroyed entirely and becomes all-Starfleet-all-the-time. Even Stahl is lying through his teeth when he says he wants to expand the KDF: he's just looking for applause and approval. Your pathetic attempt at cheering people up (It's probably not even that either; you're mocking us and spitting in our faces) is reprehensible and disgusting, just like the way Cryptic has treated the KDF all these years.

I hope Khemaraa's info is right and that 'The Season Formerly Known As 8' is a step in the right direction for Cryptic but I'm not optimistic.
Past form has shown what they think is great for the game is divisive at best and downright greedy and underhanded at worst.
Season 7 as released was a step backward for STO, even now it's still broken more than it fixed and the much vaunted 'content' of New Romulus is a distant memory for those that have finished the Rep system - all that time, money and work was as wasted as Defera and Nukara.
Hacking in a Romulan faction will not fix STO's failings - it'll just add a 3rd faction to maintain. Hacking in a new KDF tutorial won't fix the paucity of new ships and missions, busted Marauding Boffs, numerous KDF-specific bugs and a complete lack of clothing options.
And honestly, why are the Devs working such long hours? Why's it necessary? Overtime like this is always bad - staff get tired and burnt-out, mistakes get made - more bugs slip through the cracks - and for what?

I like your entire post, and I have nothing much to say to any of it except the bottom (in bold by me). Hypothetically speaking, if you are an inept game executive heading a corporate atmosphere of laziness and incompetence, with no concern for a direct dialogue with the community of players who make sure you get a paycheck and are partly responsible for spreading around word of your game (and if it feels like the game is being whored out for as much money as possible, said people have less incentive to spread the word about trying out your game), abysmal customer service (with a support link on your website that often "redirects nowhere"), a complete emphasis on pimping your game out for as much microtransaction money as possible, and an equally terrible track record of improving the game or addressing errors and bugs, aren't you going to consistently bull**** and say that you and your developers are working long, hard hours?

I'm just waiting for May at this point. I sitting here nursing 7 broken ribs I got from rediscovering the effects of a gravity induced impact with the ground (Ow! is a serious understatement.. spent a week in a trauma ward. Now home recovering.. Mostly I sleep alot.)
I have my "minimum's" I expect to see come May. I'm not expecting super-duper jaw dropping awesome mission content for the needed KDF filler. Just missions that make sense in an ongoing progression that will not only familiarize players with the current KDF back story, but aid them in gradually learning some of the more complex aspects of the games systems. You know, like good levelling content in any MMO. Some additional ships would be nice. Of course if they don't have them, they can't sell them to us in micro tranactions. A new KDF starting with new character tutorial is of course a mandatory addition.
Thats the absolute minimums. I AM expecting a little bonus content in the form of at least one, possibly two high quality story arcs.. Preferably one starting at level 30, and one at level 40 or there abouts.
Anything beyond the above is pure gravy, sweetness, and light. I'm not going to hold my breath.
I do know that I'm not prepared to absorb another dissapointment. I am absolutly ready to head off to other MMO's. The upcoming "Star Citizen" is definatly going to be my cup of tea, and there is always EVE, and About May NCSoft is rolling out v4.0 of A i o N.
I've got a Lifetime in STO, so it'll be there when I want to fark around with it. But if I don't have the KDF content this year, I'm going to go wander off to something else that I find more entertaining. And I'll go spend my money some where else to.
I'm not going to complain anymore. I'm not going to carry the flag any more. I've spent a lot of money with Cryptic over the last three years, and the game studio, and its product has broken faith a number of times over the last three and half years. It could be that the smart KDF players were the ones that left in the first year instead of waiting around this long.
Time will tell.
Oh, and I have no additional news either..other then what we all have.

You get a major franchise game...FOR FREE...you can even get the premium content...FOR FREE...and additional content...FOR FREE.
I'm no fan of the Season 7 changes, especially to the STF's, but it's still a much better game than what you'll find on a 'box or 'station.

Whats season 7 have to do with anything? This isn't a console game. It's a PC MMO. LTM"s are not free. Special editions of the game with special items are not free. Might be free.. NOW.. but it wasn't three years ago, and it wasn't 2 years ago. If your playing this game now, your not a being a console gamer.
*sigh* Buy 'em books, send 'em to school. What do they do? Eat the glue out of the bindings.
According to recent interviews I see quoted in peregrine falcon's history of the kdf, season 8 isn't looking like a big one for the kdf at all; in fact, it's looking like it's going to be pathetic. So much for all the hopes we had for it...
I will not deny it -- I am solidly with Khemera on this one. Khemera's posts suggest a minimum threshold, and lowered expectations. I am also at that point.
The continued silence regarding Klingon content for the May update as we begin to move into April is not heartening. In fact, it is troubling. Several interviews have come out in recent weeks...and the most notable thing about every interview is the utter lack of any detail regarding KDF content, ships, or expansion. Vague references and suggested half-promises are all we have heard up til now. Not a lot to inspire confidence, to be honest.
I am normally an optimist about such things...but doubt has crept in as interview after interview does not reveal anything regarding the KDF in the May Update.
personalys im already stuggling to stick with sto and if the kdf aint fixed by the time elder scrolls online comes out then i tryed to my best to stick to sto and although i LOVE star trek, thers better things to spend my time and money on.
Dan Stahl said the opposite: a tutorial in may and that's it. Why should I believe a random leak with a lot of suppositions when the man spilled the beans himself?
I can believe that the whole team is working more than they should for season 8. This is something i'm ok with since we often see dstahl posting on the forum at random hours and some of his posts let me think that he's burnt out (especially when he said "blame me, but please i beg you don't blame the team", about fleetmarks). But all this for KDF content? I don't think so.
Also, if someone in the team ever read this: take a break. A meaningful life is full of free time, it's not killing yourself at work.
My money is on May having a new KDF tutorial that will allow players to start at Level 1. I guess that will "Finish" the KDF but its so far behind that a new tutorial is just a drop in the bucket.
People will complain and Dstahl will say something along the lines as "Look, I said the KDF will be updated in Season 8, the May update isn't season 8." Of coarse several weeks before S8 he'll start saying the update is coming in season 9.
At the very least, some of our lower tier ships better get fleet version in the May update. There's no reason the T3 Ki'Tang BoP or Pach Refit shouldn't have a fleet version with the update. Or any of the other lower their ships, if they don't thats just plain laziness because it can't take that much time to update the stats and throw it into the ship requisition screen and do some graphics work on the skins.
Have only played a smidgen of KDF, but I feel that the faction as a whole suffers from not being developed in parallel with the Feds. For every Fed ship that gets released, KDF should have one released as well. Simple enough, especially given the prevalence of unused ships preceding the Cmdr level and available for a potential retrofit/fleet variant. It should actually be very simple to do so... and yet, it is not being done.
Story-wise, KDF lacks continuity and structure compared to Fed. I think that the KDF is actually slightly better off than Fed in some ways, because theirs isn't nearly as bloated with excessive missions that all play the same.
Would like to see more costume options, but development seems to be led by profit potential and I guess costumes aren't big earners.
I think the problem is where a finite amount of dev/artist hour will go to yield the highest profit. So, I guess, for that finite payroll, they prefer to make an andorian ship that will sell like mad over a time costly costume that may not sale so well...

I can see their position. However, that doesn't change the fact that alot of us are out of things to buy. I haven't spent a dime on Cryptic in almost six month because I have nothing to spend it on.:(
I'm not going to waste it on Federation stuff because my UFP captains on job these days is to turn over contraband. Seriously, he only leaves the Security Officers side long enough to get more from my Klingon characters.

Wasnt Dstahl recently quoted as basically saying Sto was financialy stable and had grown in devs in some areas?
It cant be that finite anymore to continue treating the KDF potential revenue source as they have, second fiddle or not.
Even if they are it does not mean they start flushing money down the toilet, if someone was proven unprofitable before does not mean "hey guys, we have money so lets do that unprofitable thing again".
Building a healthy two faction games isn't about charity, it's a simple topic, which is "do you ever want cheap and mindless repeatable content players will play ad nauseum to make sense in your game? In other words, do you want pvp"? PvP is the cheapest endgame content devs can do. Actually most of the games use that as a decoy target so that players keep doing their pvp stull with a limited team to just maintain the game.
If they don't do the KDF with equal content and equal store stuff, there's no way pvp can grow. Which means no cheap to maintain game with very little updates at some point.
A PvP centric game is an editor's dream. It's really the most efficient stuff you can do. The cost is ridiculously low and you can almost stop all development once it's shipped out. Of course you don't stop releasing store stuff but that's also all you do. Cryptic doesn't want to finish the KDF for the sake of the faction, they want that holy grail.
Well KDF continue to be non-customers, the Bortas didnt sell (reasons I pointed above) and the Kamarag also doesnt seem to be selling either (even if in this case I blame Cryptic from trying to have their cake and eat it too) leaving us with what? Raptors?
The bortasqu was TRIBBLE, I hope it was a good lesson. :P
Now let's get some really good escorts. Not raiders. Just escorts.
I didnt mention charity at all. The loyal klingon fanbase has become non-profitable over time in Sto thanks to poor condotions of cryptic overtime and imo bad choices.
We are not slow to pay to play in a game we obviously stick with becuase we are cheap or even thrifty by nature but because we have learned overntime that our precense in sto is not completly apreciated even if we are fans in the IP willing to spend money.
Its time that changes.
I could likely pass on actuall new ships, though having a KDF equivelent to the Kumari would be kinda nice. What I would like is to see some new ship SKINS! new art, same old stats. We could still use a KLINGON science ship class..likely more "combat oriented then the feds (take a K't'inga, give it 4 fwd, 2 aft weapons, mounts cannon, 3eng, 3 sci, 3 tac. Ltc TAC, LtC ENG, Lt ENG, Cmdr SCI, LT or Ens SCI, shield at 1.2 the Fleet K't'inga turn 12 or 13, call it good. give it the tier-3 ktinga hull points. as its going to have better manuverability the fed science ships.
As for how well or not STO is doing, and how well or not KDF oriented sales are doing, honestly the numbers/metrics mean a whole lot of nothing. Considering how tiny a portion of the user base dedicated KDF players that will spend money is, its a wonder they make any money at all off the KDF at this point in time. Do things to bring up the number. Put things in the C-store the KDF players will buy, and the sales numbers go up. Expences for creating virtual goods are a one time only expence. Eventually you break even, and eventually you make money. But once they are made they don't cost you a single penny more. Other then perhapes a little bit of bandwidth charge as players look at the c-store and mouth breath over them. Right now though there isn't much of anything that dedicated KDF players are spending money on other then fleet ship modules, though it is worth a player while to purchace the lower tier c-store version of a fleet hull.
And the people before were in fact discussing KDF uniforms. I have no idea how that got this much detered, but whatever.
If we discuss the uniforms, the point wold be that most of the people that play KDF as a main own the only C-Store uniform availible to the KDF. In the lack of everything in this department, much of them probably own the lobi ones as well.
So saying that, at least anything uniform or off duty related, they take the time to create will sell like crazy would be a safe bet for me.

It cant be that finite anymore to continue treating the KDF potential revenue source as they have, second fiddle or not.

The bortasqu was TRIBBLE, I hope it was a good lesson. :P
Now let's get some really good escorts. Not raiders. Just escorts.
God, lvl 60 CW. 17k.
We are not slow to pay to play in a game we obviously stick with becuase we are cheap or even thrifty by nature but because we have learned overntime that our precense in sto is not completly apreciated even if we are fans in the IP willing to spend money.
Its time that changes.
