I just don't know how they would have time to make a Romulan faction so quickly when they haven't had the resources for even the klingons all this time.
I wonder if it's some type of level 50 unlock to play as a Romulan. Maybe it will be through some type of Romulan reputation unlock that allows you to fly a Rommie ship and be a Rommie character. It just seems highly unlikely they have had time to sport a complete Romulan faction.
Maybe it's just an intro to an Iconian/Sela alliance. Since we've been hearing about Denise Crosby coming into the mix as well.

I'm hoping it's not a new Romulan faction and have Romulan STFs instead. I think many aspects of the game need to be improved first before we add yet another faction, this game in many aspects still feels very beta.
The UI still feels very archaic, especially with the Fleet Interface. I'm not even that overly fond of the Embassy to start with, it doesn't even make sense for a Fleet to have an Embassy with the Romulans. Yes the Federation would have an Embassy, that makes sense, but I think they should have made it into a ground outpost where fleets help the Romulans build up a location to be hospitable for the civilians.
Eventually, maybe after a year of them spending time to revamp and refine this game I would then like to see a Romulan playable race. But for now, I'd rather see a fully refined and in-depth STO game before more is added.
It could be the Romulans as a playable faction. Considering how they have handled the Klingons I am not as excited about this as I wish I would be.
It could be Romulan theme lock boxes. I don't think it will be.
It could be new missions involving the Tal Shiar. I think this is most likely. If so I hope they have some new Romulan related items as mission reward.
Now I had not thought of that ! And in March, not May. Now that's a much much greater possibility for many reasons.
(sorry, I won't be throwing myself on my Bat'leth for you. My main in play these days is a Orion, and female, we don't do the ritual suicide thing. We just send a hit man to remove the person who dared to irritate us by pointing to something ..shame full.., I'm Orion, what is this "Shame" you speak of anyway? *puzzled look*)
I was thinking an FE series, but having it as a STF series would be far more interesting. Kudo's to "nierion" for bringing it up.
If it is a STF series, it would provide additional umf to the New Romulas/embassy rep grind. The Borg have the defara invasion, and thier STF's. Might be a more balanced approch.. but I can see the possibilities and it would be all in all rather strait forward!
There was talk months and months... and months ago about the concept of non Borg STF's.
My gut tells me Romulan Faction. My logical brain tells me Featured Series.
If I had to choose, I'd put my money on a Faction. I don't think it's any more likely than an FE, but experience has taught me that overthinking things increases the likelihood that you wind up with the wrong answer. I gotta go with my gut.

what an interesting concept.
- Yep and I heard it on one of the interviews with either Stahl or Goatshark, in reference to more additional STF-Type content being added or them wanting to add at least. I'm on the same boat with you on this one, I feel a Romulan type STF series would be far more beneficial to the game with their own version of Borg Neural Processors as a reward as well (Theta Radiation Samples maybe?).

If so then they have failed. If it is a playable rommie faction i friend of my would return more to STO

I think "failure" is a little harsh. I personally think it's too early to add a Romulan faction when so many aspects of the game need to be addressed and the lack of STFs for Romulan Marks is one of them from my perspective. I feel that the KDF side still needs a lot of work, more depth added to the existing content with a decent amount of replay value that doesn't get you bored too quick and an update to the UI (especially for the Fleet System) I feel is still in need as it's very archaic IMO.
The fleet interface could really do with an update, such as being able to have more ranks, not be limited to one fleet mail a day. One of the things I am looking forward to is that on one of the recent interviews there was mention in regards to the character customization getting an update which may include additional items/features to add to your character.
I don't want to get my hopes too high, but at the same time, I must admit that I'm kinda curious to see what kind of special news we'll get by the end of March... While I would enjoy a Romulan faction, I too think that KDF should get some love... Although I would also enjoy an increase in maximum lvl with new skills and such.
I don't think they should make the Romulan faction yet. They should first do more work on getting people to play as the Klingons by adding more Klingon unique missions and more unique Klingon stuff like outfits and whatnot. Also more end game missions need to be added their simply is not enough end game missions.

I don't, Consider what recently happened on the forum, while bug fixes and more KDF content would be good. So would the Rommies. I expect these to happen in phases and maybe some bugs would be fixed. Relations are strained between the players and the devs. If all this is just for STF style for rommies then yes it's a failure for what would the reaction be? the rage will be as big or bigger than the foundry thread.
I'm not going to say it's just for STF content alone. But I would like to think it's a part of the big picture in the update. Many people talk about the existing content and bugs, even in my fleet we talk about how many aspects of this game could do with a revamp and the UI could do with a major update. I'm happy to have a little patience and have Cryptic make strong progress and focus on what they've got before they start adding a great deal more that could then end up with many problems.
More depth could be added to the 3 classes, so everyone can specialise into some kind of sub-class system. More customisation and control over the Fleet interface / starbase etc. The list goes on and on with what existing content needs updating, which would result in providing us with a solid game that provides a real Star Trek experience.
I'm use to playing MMO's that on average release some major new content every 6 months while tweaking everything they currently have in between and perfecting it. So if the Romulan faction wasn't to be added this year, I don't believe it'd be another failure on Cryptic's part as long as they don't stop trying to improve the Star Trek experience for all players. You only fail when you give up IMO and I'd rather wait for more factions and have Cryptic deliver us a ST game we can truly be proud of..... this game has almost infinite potential, we just have to hope that Cryptic can deliver.
Waits for the inevitable "What about Klingons?" rage posts.
Excuse me? What rage is that exactly? Its not going to be a romulan faction. However if it was cryptic would have some serious explaining to do, given all these claims of not having the resources to do anything for the KDF. So where exactly would those resources have come from and how is it they could get a third faction into the game so quickly, yet be unable to do squat with the KDF?
Explain that one
It's probably 19 days until some kind of big news gets announced.
Then thats a very odd way to go about doing an announcement. Its deceptive to say the least. Not to mention extremely confusing

Abandoning one faction to do a half assed attempt at a third when the second isn't even close to being anything resembling being in a good place is not a good thing. especially after years of being told they didn't even have the resources or time to work on the second faction. if by some bizzare chance it really was a romulan faction, its proof beyond doubt that we've been lied to in a major major way, straight to our faces, for three straight years
Everyone seems to have forgotten the Mini-faction thing.
THis would allow access to the race and some of the ships and equipment, as well as a small group of story missions culminating in a single mission that gives you a choice, Fed or Klingon?
Always love reading the communities rage posts regarding "what about the Klingons, Romulans will be screwed up, Cryptic Sucks, PWE needs to burn in hell, etc, etc, etc" Same comments I've heard since launch, and yet these people... for some reason... feel compelled to still play this game.
While I've never played it, I've heard WoW may be your game of choice. You may now proceed with the Flame.
Ah the Rommies.... Perhaps a new faction to off balance the "stagnate war" between feds and klinks.. perhaps a monumental let down.. we will see, high hopes are held.. but buying 2 more char slots better be rewarded ( a Romulan and a Reman????) maybe a Dred worth flying? (scimitar) we will see...

Dude, this is Cryptic.......Of course they are going to TRIBBLE it up.
The question would be what will happen with the Romulan rep system? Aren't we going to fight each other? (3 way PvP)
Please review my campaign and I'll return the favor.

19 and a half days and we'll see, according to the teaser page with a new image featuring Romulan ship-styled silhouettes...
I love a good countdown clock. One of the oldest promo tricks in the book but it never fails to get the point across.
Also, goes without saying, scroll over the May 2013 logo if you haven't... pretty darn sure I see a Warbird in there.
There will be subterfuge a-comin'.

I'd love a new playable faction, saying that I'd like anything that is new, although its usually a remake of something old.
Either way not long to wait.

this is silly. a third faction is the last thing this game needs. it can't even properly support a 2nd.
