I lead a tiny fleet consisting entirely of real life friends, we don't have anybody in the fleet who we don't know personally. We have three players who contribute to our Starbase (Myself, my wife and one of our friends). We have recently completed Tier 3 on our Starbase (level 10 fleet), which I consider quite a feat for three people, and I figured I'd post some of my feedback from the point of view of a tiny fleet making progress through the fleet system and some suggestions that I feel would make it easier for small fleets to progress without simply reducing the requirements.
- The most important thing that I do in our progress through the Fleet system is to select assignments that we have the ability to fill the requirements for. We always have too much of some resources and not enough of other resources. It is important to know what resources the fleet members have stockpiled when selecting the projects. One thing that would make it much easier for small fleets would be to add a greater variety of fleet starbase projects. These new projects could have the same rewards as existing projects and the total value of all the inputs could be around the same, but having additional projects to choose from would make it easier for small fleets to find one that matches the currently available resources more easily.
- We have tons and tons of fleet credits. The Developers have stated that they expect fleet members to contribute an average of 25% of their Dilithium to the fleet. I think my contribution is closer to 90%. We are a small and extremely determined group, with an extremely strong feeling of ownership over our Starbase, but it generally means we don't get to use very much Dilithium for our own uses. There are very few items in the fleet store that you can buy for Fleet Credits alone. Most require a large amount of Dilithium as well. It would be nice if there were more useful items that were able to be purchased for just fleet credits. Perhaps some rare (blue) quality equipment like those found in the old stores pre-dilithium so we could get some equipment to use while working towards our end-game gear (This could solve the issue with players reaching level 50 and being woefully under-equipped without giving the best stuff away for free).
All in all as a small fleet I have to say we're loving building our Starbase. We all feel a sense of pride every time we board it, as we've worked so hard to build it and it's really felt like an accomplishment. The Starbase is an important resource in our everyday game play (it gets more useful with every upgrade) and we're looking forward to any future updates that will allow us to customize it.
Love the suggestions. I too run a small fleet and although we may have around 30 members, about half of them are regularly active and online. Our group was founded by myself and a few friends, as well as my wife too and it consists of a couple of friends from outside the game as well in RL.
I always find that I'm juggling the assignments, with certain ones not being able to be assigned to certain rows. I usually focus on 2 of Tac, Engi or Sci and then 1 row alternating between the other 2. Then once we get the tier upgrade project on the one we've got assigned to 2 rows, we switch it around. Now due to the extremely low refinement cap I usually try to focus on the ones that cost more DoFF's and no dilithium, including the ones that reward 1000XP as we find them easier to complete.
I would love to see more projects added to give us more choices and more items available for purchase with Fleet Credits, or maybe Fleet Credits & EC. I still personally find the whole fleet interface a little archaic anyway and it could do with some work, especially in the areas that you suggested.
