I'm rather disappointed.
Okay, so I read through the patch notes and discovered that the Steamrunner was given a new look to choose from. I go in thinking 'What could they have done?' expecting something that, like all the other ships, stays fairly close, yet is a different ship in its own right. What I found was simply a change in the location of the impulse engines. Needless to say, I'm not that impressed. I love being able to change my ship designs a lot, so when I see a tiny option like that I feel a bit sad, even if it is free.
Same thing with the Yamaguchi. The Yamaguchi class is canon, but I'd like to see another variant on it, something that doesn't make tiny changes to the form.
Heck, play around with allowing people to combine elements from various starship classes for fun; there would be limits though, as I doubt a Galaxy or Odyssey class with a Nova or Constitution class saucer (aka, the Pinhead class) would be very practical, even if it did look extremely humorous flying about.

So... The impulse engines are now in the correct canon location.
There were quite a lot of complaints to Cryptic about the original STO Steamrunner model and the mistakes (seen in the original skin). Cryptic listened and corrected the one point that seemed to be giving players grief - the impulse engines.
For that reason, I will continue to use the newest variant, it is the closest to the show's design.
I would love some more options for the ship design and am surprised that there aren't more of these ships in-game, it is an utter monster and a blast to fly!
I would have to agree though, there needs to be more customization options for the various ships in this game. The Andrew Probert Ambassador design would be most welcome.
