So shield buffs, Why?

(The bolding is mine.)
Increased the Shield HP of several ships, including the following:
  • Aquarius Destroyer
  • Fleet Aquarius Destroyer
  • K't'inga Battle Cruiser Retrofit
  • Fleet K't'inga Battle Cruiser Retrofit
  • Heavy Cruiser Retrofit
  • Fleet Heavy Cruiser Retrofit
  • Escort Retrofit
  • Fleet Escort Retrofit
  • Scourge Destroyer Retrofit
  • Fleet Scourge Destroyer Retrofit
  • Fleet Norgh Bird-of-Prey Retrofit
  • Somraw Raptor Retrofit
  • Fleet Somraw Raptor Retrofit
  • Science Vessel Retrofit
  • Fleet Science Vessel Retrofit
  • Research Science Vessel Retrofit
  • Fleet Research Science Vessel Retrofit

It's not exactly a one sided thing, but I have to ask why escorts, raptors, and birds-of-prey?

Did I miss something somewhere? I thought those ship types where designed to have noticeable weaker shields. So why are they meritorious of lessening a weakness and no corresponding decrease in a strength?

Not when the shield weakness was so ridiculously different between said ships of similar niches. I'm just hoping they all get to 0.88, 0.9, 1.0 instead of the hilarious 0.67s that makes them 'noob ships'.

Ok, A answer. Don't so much answer the question I meant to ask as it just expands the scope. Better question:

Why do any of those ships designed around being fast and attack focused need a shield modifier above .7? (Honestly, I think .7 is a very kind number to balance the speed and hull.)

All of the ships on the list are "upgraded" versions that come from a fleet shipyard. They are meant to be tier 5 quality. When they were upgraded to tier 5, they did not receive the appropriate shield modifiers that a tier 5 ship ought to have (even for an escort) making them severely underpowered for their cost and level.

This is not a buff, it's a fix.

What's pretty much what I got from Khayugg. My question still stands. Bringing them up to standard isn't what peeks my interest. What's the standard doing so high for escorts, raptors, and birds-of-prey?

To put it another way, I view as installing a bug on all such ship instead of just some of them. Yes, they're even. Congratulations. Why is it meritorious of something above .7?

True. I much rather have normals at 0.7, Bops at 0.6, then fleet being a +10% increase of a normal.

But because the normals are already at 0.9, knocking the shields down to 0.8 means no improvement over the normal variants.

I think there'd be a much LARGER rage if all escort shields are dropped to 0.7/0.8 at the baseline, rather than buff everything else up.

(I'm sure there would be a rage, but I'm not sure it would be a justified rage.)

At any rate, it occurs to me they did take the time to revisit some "older" ships and "knock the rust off of them".

For that I should be thankful. Even if it is of no benefit to me, thank you.
