I need some help with my Wells

I've been playing STO for a while now and have recently decided to dive into PvP.

Needless to say im getting defeated without fail nearly every match.

I am a science captain flying a wells class ship and desperately want to actually have fun in the PvP arenas without being slaughtered constantly and bringing my team down.

I've read hilberts guide and a few other places and they all say I should have a buff/heal cycle, yet I don't, whoops!

Here is my build:
http://www.stoacademy.com/tools/skillplanner/index.php?build=mycurrentwells_0
Look in the notes section for my equipment.

any suggestions to make me a more effective player in 5 v 5 or even 1 v 1 pvp matches?

Please keep in mind that I try my best to be a 'sci-scort', I like to be quick and nimble with my science ships.

Also, I know my build probably lacks synergy, I experimented a lot with it recently and it shows from how disjointed it is, the flow caps for instance are from when I used to main with a tachyon beam, though I kept it to primarily use the tractor beam doff that does the same thing.

Finally, money shouldn't be an issue, I have around 80 mil EC and 100k dilithium sitting around doing nothing, ill spend all I have too in order to improve my build, otherwise whats the point of it, lol.

Other Info:

Active Doffs-

Ultimately the reason im asking the forums is that I don't really have any other way to go, I missed the PvP bootcamp by weeks and my fleet is almost entirely PvP incompetent.

I Notices your Flow compacitor skill rank was Hign so I would recomend finding a Very Rare/Purple Bridge officer with Power Siphon and Gravity well. This will help lock up your opponent and take ALL of their system power to leave them vaunerable, and use Polaron or Polorized Disrupters to shread their remaining defenses. I'n team fights this can open things up for your team to just beat down on the drained enemy. And if your lucky find a 2nd Power Siphon Officer and jump between them back and forth for 1v1 fights so they are FAR LESS effective against you.

I am not PVP expert but I noticed a sharp increase in my ability when implementing this myself =D
Before I buffed my Siphion I was in a 1v1 and he was surprized that I got all 4 of his energy levels down to nothing, sadly there wasn't ehough time on it to keep him debuffed, but I'me sure having 2 to switch between would help =D

    Have fun

What do you intend to do with it? Whats the build revolved around?

I build my Wells as a shield stripper with maxed out flow capacitors and i'm pretty happy with it in pvp

The wells is the best healer on fed side. That should be its role for team play: healing and crowd control. Check my build example at

I'm not sure about being a torpedo boat or a dedicated healer.

My preferred playstyle (basically what ive been striving for since I joined the game) is to be an 'offensive support' character, basically I want to annoy the **** out of the enemy, strip his shields, placate the hell out of him, eat his power, debuff him hard, and generally whittling down an enemies resistance and damage benefiting a team, all the while still having some teeth to dig into my targets.

Obviously im not looking for escort damage in a science ship, I understand most of my power comes from my dirty science tricks, but I'd like to be able to hold my own in a fight while actually being able to kill something in the process.

Not to mention as I said before about 98% of my fleet despises pvp so its not like im going to be running in premades as a healer any time soon.

Unless you use Photons, you're pretty much going to need 3x Projectile DOff if you want an effective Torp Boat.

That limits your DOff options, so keep that in mind.

Also, if you want Escort damage in your Sci ship... that's actually kinda do-able now, thanks to the Vesta. 4x Tac consoles + DHCs.

To be honest as a healer the damage you do is irrelevant more often than not. And the only real debuff i find annoying coming from a sci/eng healer is viral. Everything else is trivial if you spec against it. Shoot now that humans work virals are not that bad anymore.

Well if you want to be a torp boat. The popular option for alot of healers is the cluster torp.
One up front one in the back. Also with spam control you can use har'pengs.

Generally, people will tell you to go for either beams or torpedoes, but not both. Torps/kinetics are popular because they allow you to run full aux (or split shields) and this helps most of your Sci powers, incl. the tastier offensive ones.

A good deal of your issues with survivability are probably coming from only slotting one copy of EPtS. Take both and swap Aux2SIF for RSP until you're more comfortable with the ship in PvP.

You're specced higher into Decomp than you are Particle Gen. Grav Well is best used for clearing spam anyway, and without a minmaxed Tac/Sci build it's difficult to ramp up its damage substantially. I'd think about swapping those two to take VM3, or you could even go PSW3 and take advantage of both your Decomp and PrtG points.

If you absolutely want to go offensive Sci/Sci, you'd be better off doing one of two things:

    1) Respeccing into Attack Patterns (you could redline this skill just with the points in weapon performance alone) and taking AP:O1, or;
    2) Slotting a Target Subsystems 3. Shields is the most offensive option but I find weapons very useful too since most people don't carry weapons batteries and RMC won't restore the full drain.

You're taking way too many roles then the ship is capable of doing. Take a max of 2 roles for the ship, cause thats the best way to maximize the potenial of said roles.
