STO Launcher being used to pimp other games .. that's a paddlin'

Man what's going on, I load up STO and see this rubbish?

Keep our loader screen for STO only, keep the PWE banners everywhere else.

    Adverts for Neverwinter don't bother me because Neverwinter is being developed by Cryptic. It was in development by Cryptic long before they were a part of PWE.

    But yeah if I saw one of PWE's other games being advertised I would be annoyed.

    OMG! - A game developer is pimping a new game they're working on, in an existing game made by the self same developer. INSANITY!

    (That's intended sarcasm just in case it doesn't come through in text posts) :D

    The point - ALL game developers do this. The practice is nothing new, and person ally, I don't see the reason for any outrage. It's just an ad - not an announcement that STO is being abandoned/shutdown, and try our new replacement (see NCSoft's shutdown of CoX for something like that.)

    Speaking of Facebook, the STO page is starting to push out adverts for C-Store items. Something's definitely up. I wonder if sales are hurting for them...

    I'm not too fond of Neverwinter, especially since the quality of STO and CO seem to suffer as a result of Neverwinter's development. So yeah, get that junk out of my launcher Cryptic. :P

    Glad to see the manufactured outrage is still going strong. It lets me know that STO is still a pretty awesome game.

    That's nothing, you can actually download and play Champions right through the launcher, and will almost certainly be able to do the same with Neverwinter!

    It's only the beginning, PWE can 'pimp' whatever they like in that box and it's only a matter of time before they start selling the ad space to generate revenue. I can hardly wait for the ad featuring coca-cola or the trojan massage device.

    Not sure where the sense of entitlement is coming from on this one. It's a free-to-play game. It's ability to generate income is based in great part on bringing in new players willing to spend 5 or 10 bucks every now and then on extra bits and bobs. If they chose to use that space to cross-promote their own games, then they are certainly within their rights to do so. If it bothers you that much you can always quit playing STO and support a company that you feel appreciates your sacred right to play free games without ever been reminded that the company providing it needs money to continue operating.

    People pay attention to adverts on the launcher? Blimey. I gave up noticing adverts online, oohh, donkey's years ago now.

    I didn?t mind the advert since it caught my attention with TRIBBLE.... but then I made the terrible, unforgivable mistake of clicking on the image (and I mean clicking in the actual sense of the word you pervs:P).

    Holy TRIBBLE, Neverwinter sure is expensive and hasn?t even launched, the trailers are nice and of course totally meaningless for showcasing the actual game.... which looks pretty ugly so far.

    I do wish they abandon the bloody game engine and work on something better for large immersive worlds. Maybe buying into the Crysis engine?

    As it is, making a larg-ish continuous world using the Cryptic engine looks like flogging a dying horse.

    Good IPs, great concepts, limited systems. :S

    Wow, that's amazing. I really don't have words to express my utter shock and surprise that you don't have a dropdown menu in the launcher. I can update Champs, STO, STO Tribble, and Neverwinter all from that one launcher.
