[GB] Space combat is definitely one of the strongest game features, any plans for further improvement?

[DSTAHL] With the constant flow of new ships coming out of the shipyards, our next major update to ships will be to incorporate warp core design into how a ship performs in combat and what types of power it can bring to a fight.

It sounds interesting. Im still hoping that sometime console and boff layout from the starships will be fully customizable.

[GB] Though space combat is well done, overall PVP is not in the state you would want it to be. What plans do you have for PVP in the future? Maybe new fun modes, better rewards?

[DSTAHL] We are planning to introduce a PvP Reputation along with more structured PvP events that will finally provide a much needed boost to this area of the game. We are collaborating with some of the great PvP designs on Neverwinter to rewrite the future for PvP in STO.

No i've got a reason to try out my invitaion to NWN Beta.

I dont like PvP reputation system idea too much. Of course it would be grind by what I like, but looking at current rep - I'm not too optimistic.

Warp core looks cool but if we look at Cryptic records, then execution will most likely only hurt PvP more. If Cryptic adds different cores and power availability (and bonuses) to different ships then it may be ok as long as they dont favour escorts (and they will do).

But I fear it will be flat "warp core bonus" that would be same for all ship types. And in such setup the ship that will benefit most will be escort. Big boost to small cruiser damage/nerfed sci powers - cool. But simmilar boost to already over the top damage and defense/buffing.healing of escorts...

We'll see. But I more fear then hope for those changes.

To be realistic...hope is the only thing that is left...the fun has disappeared some time ago. :(

I like the idea of PvP reputation. Why? Because it probably means we'll be getting a PvP item store, which has great potential if done correctly. Also, since PvP is something we all do anyways, it won't seem like we're being put out to do it. Since most of us are already done with Romulan and Omega reputations at this point, having a new one to work on will not be difficult at all.

The obvious downside is that we will probably need some dilithium to purchase new PvP items, but we have plenty of time to save it up.

    DSTAHL

Stopped reading there, to be perfectly honest. There's very little point in taking most of what he says seriously.

Might be a lonely voice on this one, but I'm not really hot on the PvP reputation idea... I understand that STO's an MMO and all, but if instead of new maps or a balance pass, the only thing Cryptic is interested in is adding another grind with a bunch of gimmick items at the end of the rainbow, then honestly I'd rather they left well enough alone.

Yeah, I'm not at all interested in repeating Arena/Assault/Capture and Hold endlessly to grind up another reputation stat. Add a few new environments and scenarios along with it, and I'll give it a try, but new grind using old material = no dice.

At T1 in the PvP Rep store you can buy the A.F.K. prefix for your ship.

I mean, honestly, with all the AFKing that takes place now - what are the odds that they'll do anything different where players are actually required to do anything?

And if they do base it on actually winning, then folks will just game quick private matches to exploit the system.

Win trading and the rest aside, maybe they'll do a ladder system tied into the rep so the best gear will actually only be available to the best and not just any AFKing/exploiting schlum!

Course, those guys running rampant in non-ladder matches or public PvP areas won't cause any problems...rrrrrrrrrrrrrrright.

There won't be complaints from the PvEHeroes that it's easier to get PvP gear and complete PvE than it is to get PvE gear. Nope...won't be any of that.

Wow, you know...if I didn't know any better - I could swear I'm talking about all sorts of things that took place in another game out there. But wow, I just can't remember the name of the game. Hrmmm wow, that''s just not like me...

PvP Rep system... a system that rewards people for playing PvP with mechanical bonuses. Horrible idea, really. You need to suffer at the hands of the PvP'ers who already have a massive advantage in experience, and with this, a solid mechanical advantage that you can only climb to the top of to be on par with after getting blown up over and over.

Okay, a little less doom and gloom: IMO PvP passives from this system should be related to economics. Ability to get a level appropriate Green-Blue-Purple item at completion (wins guarantee a purple), more dilithium from dailies, more EC... nothing that directly gives the shooter an advantage and can't be compensated by participating in other parts of the game.

Worst case scenario is the PvP rep system is loaded with must-have passives and gear tailored specifically to PvP.
If you feel Keel'el's effect is well designed, please, for your own safety, be very careful around shallow pools of water.

I see your point but unlike STFs, PvPs are opposite teamed up by human players...Positive spin...AFKS=easy kills :)

The warp core idea sounds interesting.

As for PvP rep, I'm utterly fine with it aslong as it rewards people who actually participate (meaning AFKing doesn't work) and the powers it grants aren't nuts.

    Some ideas:-

Like Romulan and Omega marks, you should be able to turn PvP marks in for dilithium.

Each tier should increase the rewards you get upon match completion (with tier 5 giving you about 200,000 Ec)

    Tier 1:-
    Something ground PvP related

    Tier 2:-
Option 1 - +40 to inertial dampeners, sensors, subsystem repair, power insulators
Option 2 - +40 to graviton generators, flow capacitors, countermeasures and subspace decompiler

Basically one increases resists to stuns, drains, holds etc while the other increases their effectiveness.

    Tier 5:-
    Salvage - Space power
Once activated it lasts thirty seconds and upon getting a kill you'll be rewarded with some purple equipment.

    Unlocks:-
Elite PvP supplies - Sells rechargable shields, aux, weapons and engine batteries. Obviously bound.
    Previously Alendiak
    Daizen - Lvl 60 Tactical - Eclipse
    Selia - Lvl 60 Tactical - Eclipse

Don't get me wrong, btw, I think it would rock...if done well. I've just spent a couple hours dorking around with the way they write the combat logs. It doesn't leave me with much faith (on top of everything else...lol).

I seriously hope that they take into consideration the nature of players when they design things - people will looking to exploit and game the system. Cryptic shouldn't let that stop them from doing it - it could be awesome - they just need to do what they can to limit how players might ruin it.

    As for passives/gear/etc...

    +CrtH, +CrtD, +Dmg, etc, etc, vs. Players
+Shield Damage Reduction, +Hull Resist, etc, etc, etc vs. Players
    -Duration on CC from Players
+Healing to Players in certain zones
+Healing from Players in certain zones

Etc, etc, etc... think about how all the various things that would only work in PvP might affect balance whether they're passives or gear, eh?

Titles? Costumes? Lol, will it just be vanity stuff?

Oh man, I'm too busy playing the speculation game about May - about how Cryptic's going to take a dump on the KDF - about the Kumari - what did they mean by a Summer Event as well - the effect that fixing FAW et al will have on the game - what the next lockbox will be...sheesh, I need to play the game more and talk less, eh?

Just so burnt out on that Rep Grind.
Oh wait, this is about another Rep Grind?
    But it's okay...it's PvP. :D

Yep, I can spend hours in Ker'rat or the queues without thinking I'm grinding anything. Nothing like waiting on CDs to run STFs, etc, etc, etc...it's a where did the time go instead of the ugh is it time yet.

The only downside i see so far are the farmers. If a PVP rep system appears the anyone who wants will face a sharp learning curve as they try to bridge the skill cap between NPCs and PVPers, or AFK matches. Imagine how many are just going to sit there and watchthe day go by??

Wasn't 'more rewards for PvP' something that's been on the wish list for some time now?

Any useful reward system will bring in AFKers; there's just no getting around that (unless some reliable means of ejecting AFKers is introduced).

Personally, I'm pleased to think that PvP may come to be good for more than just killing time.
