The weapon as part of a maco/omega set, or Advanced or Elite fleet ground weapons are really nice, especially when paired with the new Romulan Ground Kits.

Personally - and I 'd mean to read trite - it's whatever I can get may hands on to get the job done efficiently.

Having said that, I'm a fan of the Phaser weapon, Assault minigun variety but I'm not picky at all.

For any content, but Borg mostly, a pulsewave. Best DPS, CC, AoE, it's the king weapon.
However, I use whatever I found the most funny, currently miniguns, and romulan rifle. Once the flamethrower is back, I'll use it.

I suspect once the flamethrower will be back ingame, it will be the best gun for non Borg content, while the pulsewave will still be king for STF.

Extremely close range: Advanced Fleet Plasma or Antiproton Pulsewave Assault [Dmg]x3 [CritX]
Close range: Advanced Fleet Plasma or Antiproton Compression Pistol [Dmg]X3 [CritX]
Long range: Omega Force Antiproton Autocarbine MK XII, Federation Type 3 Phaser Rifle, Advanced Fleet Plasma or Antiprotin Full Auto Rifle [Dmg]x3 [CritX] or Splitbeam [Dmg]x3 [CritX]
Melee: Falchion or Tegolar Sword Mk XII [CritD]x3

Melee works incredibly well for Tactical captains against the Borg, my fleet has found, especially if you slot the right duty officers into your active roster and use the right kit.

There are lots of different weapons with lots of different uses. The ones above are for raw damage. If you want to control people, there's the CRM 200, Cryonic Grenades, Advanced Fleet Phaser weapons with the [KB3] modifier, Polaron weapons have a chance to shut down weapons briefly (don't rely on this though, it's just a nice bonus), and my personal favourite for group PvP, the Synchronic Proton Distortion Prototype Assault Rifle, also known fondly as "the ghostbuster" or "the chain lightning gun".

If you're doing PvE only, I'd recommend the guns I listed at the top. They're quick, they pump out a lot of damage and they don't lock you into a long animation lock, preventing you from using hypos and other abilities.

Klingon honor guard pulsewave or Maco adapted battle rifle. Nothing in this game can out-dps this.

The free Romulan split beam rifle for anything requiring to kill distant stuff. I like split beams more than sniper rifles, the range is almost the same and the secondary mode is fine, and now it's even better since you can get rid off the maco TRIBBLE on your fed chars. :P

Depends on what your fighting against the borg I personally love the anti proton high density beam rifle. The tholians I like using the breen freeze ray of DOOM the CRM 200. If it's just for everyday missions I use either the anti proton or Phaser assault rife single shot is accurate and the burst has reasonable AOE effects across mobs.

I am a big fan of the Phaser Full-Auto Rifle. Seems to put a real hurtin' on, especially in groups that are tight up with one another.

Short of that, the TOS Hand Phaser. Maybe its just my imagination, but out of all the hand weapons, it seems to pack the biggest punch.

On my Fed characters I use the Omega Mk XII set with Pulsewaves as my secondary. On my KDF toons I use the KHG Mk XII set with the old borg store Anti-proton full auto assault rifles.

I do however, carry sniper rifles on all my chars for ground PvP and when doing the IGE STF for the end boss section.

This. I've got a set of phased whatsits (disruptors I think) on my Eng crew that I really wish were on my Tac instead because the KB really reduces the incoming fire and Tacs aren't exactly brick walls.

Sniper Rifle and a Shotgun, that's all you need.

Leveling with 4 boffs all sporting pulsewaves makes ground missions pretty easy. Enemies spend most of their time trying to get up from being knocked down. Don't do any serious ground pvp, so no idea what is best for pvp.

Personally, I'm a fan of the Adapted K.H.G. Battle Rifle and Elite Disruptor Compression Pistol. Use the right kit (I use Squad Leader) to generate exposes and go to town with the exploit attacks. Works wonders for my Ferasan Tac.

I did this on my main.

For the Romulan I played briefly, I went with plasma split beam weapons (mainly plasma split beam). It was even more amusing than full pulsewaves.

I dont understand why it's ok to give weapons that do AOE damage all the time also the most damage. :|

If anything they should do less damage than the others, but make up for that thanks to the AOE. All ground encounters come in groups of npc's anyway.

while sniper rifle and shotgun are a excellent choice, i prefer splitbeam. a great opening weapon from mid range...able to take out 3 unshielded ensigns in one shot. primary fire has high dps too.

my favourite shortrange is actually the compression pistol...insane rate of fire on the secondary mode (also has highest dps agains single targets on second mode) and really the fastest firerate on primary fire.
similar to that is the high density beam rifle, great single target weapon too, range is also good.

imho, all weapons have their place...the only ones i consider inferior, since their firemode is ridiculous is the minigun and the rapid fire rifle...long CD on secondary fire mode ohh and yes basically all expose weapons, except the shotgun (being an expose weapon is the only fault that weapon has)

    tl;dnr

hands off expose weapons, go for exploit weapons.
    Go pro or go home

Got myself a Mk XII Tegolar Sword Dmgx3, yes there are probably more effective things but man, I love that blade. Run around like a frickin maniac stabbing Ensign Picards in the back.

Like I always tell my fleet, there is no 'best' ground weapon.Which ground weapon is best to use depends very much on the career you are and more important, the enemy you are fighting.Borg for example, the Borg prosthetic weapons are useless against them, utter garbage. On the other hand, the same weapon works very well against Undine.
