I replaced my Galaxy R with the Ambassador. It should serve me well until I get the fleet Galaxy, which fortunately, will be in a few days. It's quite a nice ship to be honest.
I am having doubts about the galaxy dreadnought but loving the ambassador ship
I am using spiral wave disrupts 3 fore and 3 aft with one quantum in fore and one photon launcher aft. I am using mk xi space set. 3 armor consoles. One ablative mk xii one tetraburdium mk xi 1 neutronium and RCS accelerator. For tax 3 disrupt or induction coils mk x and mk xi all purple quality and shield generators for sci. Being careful not to get close to Borg cubes or gates my fleet mates and I completed infected space elite and got the bonus very quickly. So to summarize I love the ship and not just because it is free!
Its certainly nice ship (for RA), but I have the feeling my Fleet heavy Cruiser outperforms it.
"Cryptic Studio’s Jack Emmert (2010): Microtransactions are the biggest bunch of nonsense. I like paying one fee and not worrying about it – like my cellphone. The world’s biggest MMO isn’t item based, even though the black market item GDP is bigger than Russia … microtransactions make me want to die.”
Here is my one beef with the Ambassador. My main Engineer is set up primarily as a healer. With this, he used the Star Cruiser over the Assault Cruiser. Then they came out with the Excelsior. It was a fine alternative to the Assault Cruiser. The Ambassador could have done the same and be an alternative to the Star Cruiser. They got it half right. The boff layout comes with a LTC science in place of the Excelsior's LTC Tac. When I looked at the console layout, it is exactly as the Excelsior with 2 sci and 3 tac. Should it not have been 3 Sci and 2 Tac to accomadate the science aspect?
The Ambassador is an outstanding ship. It outclasses the assault cruiser with its excellent science potential.
It doesn't. A Fleet Advanced Heavy cruiser will though.
I tell you, my fleet heavy cruiser outperforms it as well :P

Im finding it holds up well as a ship, lasts out a bit longer than my oddy did... but i rarely venture onto STF.. people are a tad aggressive on that so I stick to Fleet or my own business.
Set up as a dual Aux2Batt build, shooting Grav Wells out at a rapid pace and spewing Warp Plasma like it had too much of a good time in Bangkok, my Amby is the new teacher's pet. Love this thing! It's a great change of pace from my escorts. Oh and spamming FAW I and BO II isnt too shabby either. As a longtime Tac/Escort Captain, the Ambassador gets 2 enthusiastic thumbs up.

I think 3 sci 2 tac would have been a mistake; most cruiser captains would have just stuck another shield console in there anyway, and then complained about getting another underpowered ship. Giving it an extra tac console makes it pretty good at everything; it's probably the best jack-of-all-trades in the game.
The Ambassador is certainly a fine ship. I was doing really well with it in PvP, even more so than some of my other cruisers. I just find it really odd that it's basically a Galaxy-X with a Lt. Com Sci slot instead of a Eng slot, and yet works so much better. I wasn't expecting it to be as good as it is, but hey, who am I to complain.

Yeah I wouldn't have bothered with it at all if it only had 2 tac consoles. Someone was suggesting that in one of the ambassador wish list threads and I'm glad he didn't get his way. I'm happy with the science lean. I imagine if they give this ship the fleet or c-store treatment that it might end up with a 3rd science slot.
A Fleet or C-store version with a 4th tac console would make this an amazing ship. As it stands, the sci boff is nice but I'm just too used to the tac lean of the Fleet Excelsior and Fleet Assault.

I'd also be happier with a 4th tac, but realistically I doubt that will happen. Fingers crossed tho.
With the +energy on eptx doffs and two tt conn doffs.
Tanky, yes, but it lays down the pain too. Hardly ever see my weapon power drop below 100 when faw'ing; only when I haven't been paying attention. With apb up and the 10% bonus from eptw I rain 1,5 k hits on hulls/unarmored targets, even during FaW.
Additionally, it can actually take the resulting beating from aggroing all the things. When not having aggro, it still provides enough other-people-heals in addition to pumping out decent sustained dps.
And it turns way better than my Dreadnought. It makes me sad about that one, but giddy while using the Ambassador.

Engineering and science synergize extremely well. The problem with COM engineer and LTC engineer like most cruisers have is that half of engineering is Emergency Power To Foo and it all shares a cooldown. Having a strong science station gives you more options.
Having both the fleet Excelsior and now the Ambassador I found myself thinking last night that the latter was actually in some way outperforming the Excel. It seemed a tad over powered even during Elite STF's compared to the Excel... dunno why. Just an observation.
As far as I am concerned the Ambassador is as close to an end game Connie as I am ever going to get so I couldn't be happier. That being said, however, I think Id only take my Temporal Destroyer into PVP for a while more...

I get the same feeling and I attribute it to "getting more bang for the buck" out of the LtCmdr Sci than the same lvl tac. I am running GWI there, but there are many other options as well. GWI teamed with EWPIII makes for a lot of battlefield control, especially when part of a 2 aux2batt build and the uptime on both becomes ridiculous.
Also, on the pvp front, DDIS has a few very interesting build ideas in his ship thread. Looks very tasty to me.

look lets not get it twisted the ambassador is a nice RA ship but put up against the fleet sov or the fleet excel it will get its clock cleaned hell could prob beat it with a fleet neb so while it is a nice ship yes people need to stop acting like its the second comin already

That LC Tactical slot opens up the Excelsior to a whole host of high DPS and DPS/Tank Hybrid builds that cannot be matched by another cruiser. However, if you primarily want to tank, a Star Cruiser or the Ambassador will be streets ahead of the Excelsior retrofit. (Don't have Experience with the Fleet Excel, but I imagine that the Fleet Star Cruiser still beats it for Tanking/Support).

Then I will take my tugboat and run circles around the other whaleboats... :P
And I will name him George. And I will hug him and pet him and squeeze him...
