Building my Chimera Heavy Destroyer

I'm currently running a Chimera and was wondering if I can optimize my build a bit more.

Fore:
3x Advanced Fleet Phaser DHCs
Advanced Fleet Quantum Torp
Aft:
2x Advanced Fleet Phaser Turrets
Kinetic Cutting Beam

Aegis Set

Eng:
2x Neutronium
Borg Assimilated Console

Sci:
Field Generator
Dynamic Tactical System

Tac:
4x Purple Mk12 Phaser Relay

Boffs:
TT, CSV1, TS3, APB3
TT, CSV1, TS3
HE1
TSS1, HE2
EPtS1, RSP1

Doffs
2x Shield Distribution
3x Damage Control Engineer

I'm mainly doing PvE, but hey, I would love to eek out whatever power I can into this ship even if it doesn't matter in the long run. At the moment, I'm kinda iffy on keeping the torps and the torp skills, but I'm worried about power management and power drain. I'm also wondering if I'm gimping myself by not having APO. Any thoughts on how my setup adds up?

Also, I'll be replacing the Aegis set for the Borg set.

I would get some sci doffs to make up for the lack of sci boffs?

Generally it's a good build. But here is what I think:

Lose the Cutting Beam and replace it with Rear-Firing Torpedo or another Phaser Turret. Because the Cutting Beam is best for a AP build also, the cutting beam reduces your effectiveness with Cannon abilities like Scatter Volley.

The Second Neutronium, it's handy for PvP, but in PvE you can easily put a Universal Console there. Really your call.

With BOFF slots, you have low DPS with that build. With my Destroyers and Escorts, I have this build:

    Commander: TT / RF1 / HY3 / RF3 (or TT / Scatter 1 / Spread 3 / Scatter 3)
LTC: TT / Scatter, Spread, or Beta 1 / Omega 1

Also Omega helps get you out of Tractor Beams, which is necessary for the STFs. And you'll be hugely vulnerable in PvP without it.

With the Ensign Universal, go with something else like Engineering Team 1 or Polarized Hull. Having 2 of the same abilities sometimes can be a crutch.

With DOFFs, you're call. But personally I'd mix in one Projectile DOFF. When you have multiple Torpedo Attacks, it can really make a difference.

Thanks for the advice. I've taken a lot of what you said into consideration and made a couple changes.

I supposed I really like the idea of the Omega Weapon Amplifier. I originally had another Phaser turret instead of the KCB, but perhaps I can use the Omega Torpedo Launcher instead to get the 2 set bonus?

Decided on using the Zero Point console from New Romulus. Crits are always good.

Still fiddling around with Boffs, but I came to the conclusion that you were right in that I was losing out on a lot of DPS by not having single target skills. I'm probably going to keep my Commander Tactical Boff the same with the AoE skills. I'll just retool the Lt. Commander boff to have CRF2 and THY2. Also decided to go with Polarize Hull instead of HE1.

If I'm PvPing, I'll probably have a boff with APO instead of APB.

I love the chimera it has the same set up ability as the PE and the JHAS and those two are monsters in this game. Too bad for her to cost 300 dollars she's not being upgraded like the other ships so i may end up taking a pass.

But secondly my concern is the fact that you are taking away a 360 degree weapon and replacing it with a 90 degree ark weapon... when they both hit about the same. Sounds fishy to me, how often do you think this behemoth will out run a target or even show its tail to an enemy? This isn't exactly a nimble girl, she's actually quit clumsy and unwieldy and more a cruiser then a hybrid so keep that in mind.

I'd go with a boff set up like this, but only for PvE and if you really want that torp.

    Tac Com - TT, APB1, CRF2, APB3
    Tac Lt. Com - TT, CRF1, THY3
    Eng Lt - EPtS1, AtSIF1
    Sci Lt - HE1, TSS2
    Eng Ens - EPtS1

I got lucky with this one and the lifetime subscription was more a gift.

But as far as the the second concern goes, I think the Cutting Beam is also 360 degrees. I think my main concern is whether or not the Omega Weapon Amplifier is worth the decreased DPS when compared to another Phaser Turret.

I always thought AoE was more important than single target skills, but I keep on hearing opinions to the contrary. I'm starting to think that CRF should be favored to CSV.

I'm kinda iffy on the torpedo. Was thinking about using a Dual Beam Array or something, but if I do that, would I have to do anything special in order to maintain a good power level?

To add the Chimera questions, what is the best cannon type for maximum PVE DPS build?

If you go phaser you buff the Chimera's big gun, which does huge DPS every 5 minutes.

If you go plasma you can get an extra 9.6% damage from the Romulan consoles.

If you go Disruptor you get the extra dps procs.

I would guess that phaser is best if you like to have huge burst once in a while to take severely damage a group of spheres; if you play in 5 man premades you likely want just one person to go disruptor to make sure the debuff is there; and for sustained dps go plasma. That said, I do not have the spreadsheet skills or the money in game to test all the builds.

Anyone have hard numbers from logging STFs with different loadouts?

I have the cutting beam, it is indeed 360 degrees! it works best in conjunction with the borg tractor beam that is only available with the three piece set. that being said, you can disable the visuals of the borg set if it is not your thing. they recently fixed the beam cutter as well, more powerful apparently.

I bought the Omega Torp and to be honest, if you have four rear slots for weapons throw it on and forget about it. Otherwise dont bother. The cutting beam is more than sufficient and what with the turrets and cannons, you wont often find yourself facing an enemy with its shields up for long.

You may want to consider buying the Romulan ZPe and the Lobi store tachy converter. that coupled with the assim module gives the ship some needed support.

Edit: to answer your newest question, because the Chimera's special weapon is a phaser Id stick to that weapon type personally. Get the fleet variants XII of the phaser DHC and Turrets. ..etc... but again, that is just my preference.

Exactly keep the cutting beam and secondly, she has the almighty lotus blossom ad that with a befaw and what's left standing can stare at the chimera before running away to lick it's wounds.

I love this ship and she is my capital ship to the fullest too bad they just won't upgrade her so i could justify her price tag.

    Just my 2cents.

    Tac Com - TT, CRF1, THY3, APB3
    Tac Lt. Com - TT, CRF1, APB2
    Eng Lt - EPtS1, RSP
    Sci Lt - PH, HE2
    Eng Ens - EPtS1

I've had much better results with this setup than having THY3 on Tac Lt. Com slot. Besides you'll be helping cruisers and sci captains with 2xAPB. I also switch BOFFs depending on the situation. My 2nd setup replaces CRF1 with CSV1 and THY3 with TS3.

I think your original design was very good but a few minor tweaks would get a bit more out of it. This is how I would modify your set up

    Tac Com - TT1,TS2,CSV2,APO
    Tac Lt. Com - TT1,TS2,CSV2
    Eng Lt - EPtS1, RSP
    Sci Lt - HE1, TSS2
    Eng Ens - EPtS1

Infact that's more or less how I have mine set up but I go for APB1 instead of TS2. You generally find AoE damage is better for elite STF than single target damage.

As for your weapons, I find you'll shred shields very fast with 3 dual heavy cannons and the kinetic cutting beam does more damage to hull than your turrets will so having it in the back is good. You could get the omega torp (instead of fleet torp) for the 2 piece set and ditch the borg console, then you have more console slots for either a second field generator, RCS, tachyokintic converter etc. I did notice a boost to damage while under the effects of the 2 piece omega set so I would recommend having it whichever way you go about it..

Duty officers aren't my strong point but you seem like you know what you're doing with the general set up you first posted. I hope we cross paths in Elite STF, we need more players that have good damage doing them.

Oh and PvP...well that's a whole different kettle of fish. Best to have entirely different boffs for that and ask a seasoned PvPer but from what I gather you just need a good amount of burst damage (so say CRF3) and APO1 x2, engine batteries and an RCS will help too.

It is through repetition that we learn our weakness.
A master with a stone is better than a novice with a sword.

Has damage got out of control?
This is the last thing I will post.
