NPC kills

I was just standing in front of the consumable vendor on ESD in zone 11 when the NPC security officer between tailor and consumable vendor suddenly turned around and fired upon us, immediately killing 4 of us players and both vendors around the table. Another player came and revived us before the same NPC murdered us again, but not the vendor NPCs because they didn't respawn until about 3 minutes later. Explanations?

    He hasn't been taking his meds?
