Refits

I just made Captain and I had a question regarding the ship refits.
The previous two levels there was the Exeter and Excelsior refits available and I was tempted to get them. Is there any reason to or should I just save my Zen? I noticed they had some nice consoles...
Now that I'm at level 30 Captain I guess there's no point, I should just go with a Tier 4 Ship?
I was tempted to get the Excelsior refit but I leveled so fast to Captain I delayed that.

The Excelsior is one of the few ships that has some power to really keep going, I own all three excelsior variants, I used the CMDR Excel from the day I hit CMDR all the way up to the day I hit Rear admiral because it outperformed the ships at captain and I still pull it out from time to time for endgame content because I know I can survive and kick some backside in it

That said however now you have made Captain rank I recommend you hold off buying an Excelsior until Rear admiral at which point you get a damn nice ship and the console you get on the CMDR version is more or less redundant anyway

Something else I was wondering - now that I'm sitting here at the shipyard with my free Tier IV ship token, I'm tempted to try something else either than a Cruiser? I'm a tactical character, but the escort and science vessel are looking tempting? I have liked the Cruisers so far.....

Escorts will get you a lot more pew-pew if you mount dual cannons (especially heavy ones) and keep your bow facing your enemy. The Captain-level cruiser is the Galaxy, which turns very slowly compared to every other ship except the carriers, Odyssey, and Bortas.

I have found the excelsior class ship to be one of the most versitile ships in the game. Its a great tank and all the varriants hold their own. Another personal favorite ship is the defiant class. Grabbing every version of the ship as I have made the fleet version a true joy to fly. I have also been trying out the vesta class ships as I have finally decided to get into the science class. While not a true refit, the versions of the vesta do offer a similar feel to the refits in that they are not the same ship model to model. Hope that helps.
