Better balance?

So I was listening to horizon and he brought up a good point. Players in this game are so passionate about who they are, their fleet, and the game it self. This causes conflict within the community. Most of the conflicts are not because one person beat them or a team beat them it is because they used this broken skill on me. PVP balance is important in all games and is hard to achieve when making stuff for PVE then trying to adapt PVP..

I think as a whole if there was better balance in the game there would be less conflict between people. But this is not a excuse for some of what I have seen in the community in all type of fleets may it be RP, PVE, or PVP. It is a game...

I have played many games (all I pvped) conflicts were mostly trolls and did not go any further. They never got as heated as this game does and most of it is over this skill that skill regardless of what it is and 99% of the time it is a broken skill... I am not going to just point a finger at cryptic for this because just cause they give you the gun to fight a baby does not mean you should use it.

Just a suggestion for devs to ponder!
The first mmorpg ever made would make a skill for pvp then adapted the pve to the skill sometimes some skills were a bit to strong and all they did was lower the skill damage or ability then lowered the AI resist against the said skill if it worked fine vs AI.

Better Balance = Better fun!

I'd love to see the game balanced for PvP first, and then have the NPCs tweaked as needed to make them more or less vulnerable -- doing it the other way around just doesn't work.

Take pet spam as an example; it's something that PvPers always seem to complain about when more is added. That's because pets need to be pretty powerful to have a noticeable effect in PvE, but then that makes them too effective in PvP (while they are still worthless for scoring points by killing them).

Science abilities in general are the same way. If you can't pound through an NPC ship's shields quickly, it's because it has tons and tons of shield points, so stripping away buffs or using shield drains on it is not that big a deal. But do it to a player and they pop pretty quickly.

One of my personal pet peeves is still that certain captain traits are necessary for PvP (Elusive and Accurate) but not every race can have them, and if you didn't pick them at character creation, you're stuck having to grind levels, rep, gear, dilithium, etc, all over again. It's not even that those traits give you a little edge in PvP the way the traits which give you extra power do -- you can't be competitive without those two traits. They are really so necessary that they ought to just be automatically given to everyone. That is not good balance.

At the very least, they're introducing a retrait system soon according to the latest Ask Cryptic.

It would make more sense. If an ability is balanced against people you can, in theory, go back and adjust NPC stats up or down to get the desired effect.

Personally I don't mind dying. What I dislike is feeling cheated because you used something that was poorly designed. It's even worse when you yourself even know its broken. I just want to have fun and believe it or not, winning isn't a prerequisite.

It's terrible but easy, and these Borg are way cooler than the mess STO and Voyager left us.
May not actually be "way" cooler or even "slightly" cooler.

That would be a big help.

Though when certain traits are absolutely mandatory, it's kind of questionable why they are traits at all. Seriously, everyone should just have the bonuses from Elusive and Accurate automatically, just to avoid people accidentally not taking them and then wondering why they are having so much trouble compared to others with equal gear and experience.
