Im loving what jamjamz has done with the Ambassador class. It looks glorious. Well done. I must admit though, I've always been a big fan of the original Andy Probert design. Im also hoping we get this as a variant.
Another thing I noticed was the hull material. It looks amazing. Will we get a unique hull material for the Ambassador too?
I love Andy Probert's recent version! I have a wallpaper of it on my desktop. But I would imagine he still holds some of the rights to that particular variant, completed long after the show. Negotiating rights could be done, but it'd probably take forever like with the Vesta.
But the good news is that much of the inspiration for his latest version might still fall under CBS control. Certainly the gold relief model on the Ent-D's ready room shows an Ambassador closer to Probert's variant than what we saw on the show. And it's possible that CBS could approve something based off of concept art Probert did for the show, which would end up looking very similar to what he came up with since then.
I like to think that the original Ambassador prototype was built like the curvy original design, but something led them to change the design soon after. Otherwise, why would it still be seen on the Enterprise bridge? I suppose if we view the ships as a progression of the classes of Enterprises, instead of Enterprises itself, it's possible the C never looked like that, but maybe it had a big refit. Perhaps the radical warp contouring of the hull didn't help as much as it could have theoretically, and they shelved that shape until technology could make it work in the Galaxy class. Or maybe the Ambassador was just too hard to build, and they decided to make a simpler, ruggeder hull that could be produced enough to meet Starfleet's needs.
Take a look at my Foundry missions! Conjoined, Re-emergence, and . . .

I do believe Probert owns the rights to the design since he painted the picture and don't think CBS owned the rights to it.
But Probert never fleshed out the CGI, that was Tobias Richter, who was a fan of the Ambassador portrait.
If he ever submitted a version of it during the production of TNG, then it belongs to CBS.
Though the painting version is from the '90s and isn't recent at all.

I love the close up of the rear of the Primary hull, showing the Captains Ready Room and the Lounge.
The detail is amazing!

Well the Painting is Probert's, which CBS doesn't own the rights to. But Stearnback did say that Probert did submit design sketches, which was alerted to the current Ambassador.
Here is the original Probert sketch. Think CBS might own it. But when Richter was bringing the ship to life for the SotL calander, it seems Probert was holding ownership rights. Much like how Drexler has rights to the NX-Refit and Eaves with the Klingon D4.
Well at least Probert's version has a torpedo launcher.

I wonder about the Yamaguchi variant myself, since that one was on screen. Will we get something like the T3 being the standard with the variant optional as T5 like the Excelsior?
That Probert version is hideous, looks like a bad kitbash of a Galaxy and Ambassador that got broken apart and thrown into the same spare parts bin.
The beauty of the original is that it has very simple shapes put together in a proportionate way. No weird bulges, and most importantly it looks like it all belongs to the same parts bin. It subtly suggests a lineage from Enterprise A and B to D.
By contrast this Probert version is all stretched and out of proportion, and hits you upside the head with a sledgehammer shouting HEY THAR, MAH NAME ENTERPRISE!! SEE HOW I LOOK KINDA LIKE THE OLD ONE AND THE NEW ONE!! ISN'T THAT KINDA COOL?? HUH??
Delta Rising is the best expansion ever and the players love it! No, seriously! ...Why are you laughing so hard?

One mans Mona Lisa is another's American Gothic.
You seems to have missed the point that the Producers actually asked Probert to design the ship in that manner.

love that Probert Variant, if its good enough for the SotL Calendar than it is sure as hell good enough for STO!
Real question is if they can get the rights to it. (and hopefully it will not take an eternity like it did with the Vesta).
of course i like the original too, and i'm happy to finally see it
it will be interesting to see if it outperforms the Galaxy Class at Tier 5,
it is smaller so i guess slightly higher turnrate but less hull/shield points
And I do believe this was not JamJamz, but our other ship artist Adam(Not Logan)Gibson.
Can you please slap around the design team and make a canted pylon version real quick? Just the pylons, nothing else. I would love to get a connie look off of the ship.
if memory serves, wasnt this one of the original concepts for the galaxy class, and then after it was refused it was resubmitted as a concept for the ambassador class (which was then again refused lol..)..
while its not my cup of tea, it does have elements that are pretty cool. i wouldnt mind seeing them flying around, but i would never use the skin.. (i might use elements of it..)..
but i am almost posotive this was one of the original designs for the galaxy class (the probert "varient")..

This version of the Enterprise C was designed on the spot specifically for that one episode.
At a minimum we should get the Yamaguchi/Excalibur/Zhukov variant. As it addressed further details of the model. Enterprise-C has line-of-sight conflict between the Bussard collectors and edge of the saucer. This is born out when viewing the STO screenshot. In that sense, that specific game model is correct.
Clearly, in-universe, the Enterprise-C was lost prior to refit to the Yamaguchi standard. Which does sport shortened struts to bring the nacelles down just enough. And also detailed further the lower-saucer sensor array. And more lifeboat hatches. However, the model builders seem to consistently forget to place the torpedo launcher.
Furthermore, that Probert sketch he submitted first is consistent with the painting. I find it odd that the painting image is thought to not be licensed through CBS. Even if the painting sets in Probert's house at the minute of this posting, it clearly still appears within multiple viewings of a TNG episode. Fair game as far as I'm concerned. Granted the aft view of the design is up for grabs. Unless, as others suggest, we can get access to Richter's calendar images. It really is the perfect bridge between Excelsior and Galaxy classes.
I can't think of a good reason to disregard the continued improvements on the model when selling player's a version through C-store, etc.

Right now, if you go to Probert's website, you can order prints of his paintings, which includes his Ambassador portrait and the Galaxy portait we also saw in TNG.
So either he does have full rights or has permission to sell those prints.
At a minimum we should get the Yamaguchi/Excalibur/Zhukov variant.
Maybe the C-Store upgrade, similar to the Excelsior and Steamrunner.

"IF" the Devs are savvy, they will offer the Probert sketching as a Mirror Universe alternative in one of the future lockboxes, or, perhaps a Fleet alternative.
I imagine that players will have access to the 1701-C, Yamaguchi/Excalibur/Zhukov variants, as these slight changes should be acceptable skin variations within the allowable dimensions.
