Question about Zen transfer between accounts

This question may have been asked before. If it has I can't find the thread - the Search function is a tad basic and, of course, if a thread isn't given a logical title then it's almost impossible - so excuse me for asking it again.

Is there a logical reason that Zen cannot be transferred between accounts? In my opinion it doesn't matter who buys the Zen or who spends it as Zen is Zen - regardless.

You see, I currently have two accounts but I can only attach one to my credit card and, of course, I only have one card. If I could buy Zen with my primary account and transfer it to my secondary account (or even a tertiary if I were to create one) it would allow me to purchase items that are not transferable for my secondary (and tertiary, etc) characters. Logically, therefore, Cryptic/PWE would make a little more money from me and from others in the same situation as I am.

The reason I have more than one account - and may even create more accounts - is that I can't get Zen on my secondary characters in order to purchase character slots without spending half my life farming Dilithium and selling it on the Dilithium exchange and that I am not willing to do. I really want to play Star Trek Online, not Dilithium Farming Online. Therefore I am limited to one Fed and one KDF character per account unless I can find a way to get Zen on my alternate account(s).

I would really appreciate a response by someone from Cryptic/PWE about this?

I believe the reason why we can't transfer Zen between accounts is that you can earn Zen in-game by farming time currency (which in STO is Dilithium).

And it wouldn't be too hard to imagine people exploiting that system by making multiple F2P accounts and funneling Dilithium-Transfered Zen into a single account. Which would mean the company wouldn't be making income to support the games and their teams.


Though they might be open to suggestion on a type of family account service, where parents or family members could have shared C-store unlocks.

It's to hinder gold farmers and sellers. If you can just transfer zen between your accounts, a gold seller could do the same thing, without the added trouble of getting your account password.

That is untrue. You cannot earn Zen in-game. The only way to use dilithium to obtain zen is to trade it with other players. The total amount of Zen remains unchanged.

Cryptic decided that energy credits will be the only form of directly tradable currency in the game. I am not going to speculate on why Cryptic does not want Latinum, lobi, zen, dilithium, et cetera directly tradable, but I am sure most people can think of reasonable explanations.

My guess is that Cryptic wants to simplify the economy and allowing dilithium and zen to be traded would conflate those currencies with energy credits even more than they already are.

i am GLAD this is not possible, as if it was, and someone hacks your account, you can find yourself very sad.

as is, they can only take your EC and bank stuff

Converting Dilithium to Zen is still earning Zen. No different than you "trading" your work hours for a paycheck, that you earned.

They already explained this a year ago during the conversion. One it was a way to monitor the economy, two it allowed to add as a time-based currency so players could effectively trade in their time for C-store points to buy goods.

Why can you only use your credit for one account. It looks like that is the weird thing here. Many people will have one credit card but several game accounts.

I have two STO accounts and I can use use several payment methods, including my credit card.

Off-topic things.

The other day I bought Zen, but on the wrong account. Let's move that to the right account using the exchange, I thought. The receiving account made a very low buy order on the exchange. The idea was to move the Zen from one account to the other, at the same time moving some dilithium back. However I could never hit that buy order with the other account.

In some way I can understand that this idea is not working. The exchange would be flooded with low priced orders just for transferring between accounts.

Because I had bought the Zen on the wrong account and there was a discount on Zen, I bought again on the wright account. However I had to use Thrill/Moneybrookers, but I failed to get the right password. I had to sent them a copy of an ID. By the time I had things settled, the discount was over. No deal, no Zen. Someone has been shooted in the foot as it seems.
