Anyone that have tried to compare them both?
I am curious to know which one you might find more efficient.
The PDS is a universal console, the ADB is a tactical console, beyond that, I know very little about the ADB. I have the PDS, but I don't find it to be 'all that' except for being practcal against untargettable fighters harrassing me from time to time.
ADB is a single plasma bolt (no dot) that deal 40 damage each time it fire. Automatically attack anything within its range (hopefully usually prioritizing smaller targets). As for PDS you can look it up on the STO wiki. It is far capable.

Do you know anything about the ADBs range? Is it perhaps a somewhat further range on it than the PDS?
Great. Thanks for the info. The use of the DPS is still very situational. Useful in certian PvE situations, but that is pretty much it. For it to be of use, object needs to be closer to my hull, than comfortable.
I hope I didn't exasperate you to much with my questions
The automated defense turret is a great defense against high yield plasma torpedoes, but there are far better tactical consoles than it for most situations. The only problem is that only people that have purchased the Digital Deluxe Edition can have it and I think it has been discontinued. Would be nice as a C-Store or lockbox unlock for those that want it.
Honestly, the PDS is useless. The cooldown is way to long for the damage it does. You are better off with something else in its place. Same goes for the torpedo defense console.
The ADT is marginal usefull, during low intensity combat, where the low firing rate of the turret and damage has actual time to take out incoming destroyable projectiles. But total useless against the modern projectiles that have like 4k hp themselfs.
...I have the PDS on my Heavy Assault Carrier(Fed) and I use it often with great success, still the cool down time does suck...however it is useful when in a team if you are wanting to take the aggro...mixed with Fire at will, Tor. Spread and then hitting the PDS it has great potential. Would be great if they lowered the cool down time tho, so I can fire it more in team battle. All in all, if you mix it up a little you may see great results, on it's own it is not very useful. Oh! and keep in mind your team will be hitting targets too so shields will most likely be weakened. Try it out for yourself.
I have all three on my Armitage. The auto turret damage scales like any other turret. It's great against high yield torps but the firing rate is not high enough. So you'll only get 1 or if lucky 2 torps from a high yield plasma volley.
I use the regular/torpedo point defense as extra damage.

the ADB has about a 3km range got it with the steam preorder comes in handy with heavy torps like the ones the rom's and the borg use very handy in stf's...:D
I like the Tac Console Turret. It auto-targets High Yield Projectiles. It can save you some annoying hits, especially since it is always active (no cooldown beyond that of a normal turret). When there are no incoming projectiles, it attacks the target that you are firing on. It is fairly weak but unless you are doing a PvP match, there is no real reason not to use it. Even in PvP its anti-HY function can be somewhat helpful.
The universal Turret does (I think) double damage to fighters and frigates but with a obnoxiously long cooldown. It is great against a carrier but you can only activate it now and again.

If you have a big lumbering Cruiser, you can combine both with the other weapon slots to have a ten turret set-up. While it has less damage than all-beams, that gives you nine continuously firing weapons with a 360 degree arc plus one turret that does burst damage, and you don't have worry about trying to get in to broadside position to to actually hit with them. I used this on a Galaxy-X. I liked it. Sometimes people stop paying much attention to where they are going with all of those turrets and happen to fly in front of the Spinal Phaser Lance.
The ADB is a plasma weapon and will be buffed by Tac Consoles that buff plasma weapons or Cannon/Turrets. IT has a range of about 5 k.
Pros:
1)It will also fire at enemy craft when no targetable fighters or projectiles are close.
2) Because of 1), it has full-time uptime.
Cons:
1) It is a Tac-Console only. It should be made universal.
2) Its damage is anemic.
3) Its rate of fire is so slow that some projectiles/Boarding Shuttles/etc will get through in target-rich environments.
from Lt.-lLtCmndr it has its uses, as the damage it does is higher than any buffs available from most Mk 1-MK iV tac consoles. After that, it's kinda silly.
That said, if it was made universal, it *could* have limited use in certain builds.
point defense system is awesome on a phaser equipped escort since u tend to get up close and personal with enemies against a single enemy does good dmg while not using any wp all while your guns are blazing.

The only thing it has going for it is that targeting and firing is automated.
PDS is still superior to it in all ways that matter.

In general, simply forget about them.
