I couldn't find another forum post with this idea so here it is:
It would be fantastic to be able to select which ship you would prefer to use prior to the start of all PvE & PvP matches. Just to have the selection screen appear while waiting for game to start would allow users to have more customization of their ships and layouts. Plus, add more fun and creative way to play these missions.
For example, I prefer my Nova class starship overall, but would love to take my Runabout into the Azura mission, without having to go to a starbase (or into my ship) just to change for a single mission.
Just wanted to share this idea and see what the community thinks.
Thanks for your time.

While this sounds like a good idea, I feel like it would brake immersion of the game (except on cases of small craft)
This has to make sense, I feel like.
So, if you are flying Odyssey and owns a Fleet Aquarius Escort, then it would make sense for you switch on the fly.
Small crafts on the other hands should come with some limitation as well.
Escort is small so let say, you can only carry two. So you can only pick from a list of two small crafts you own.
However, on a large cruiser and carrier, you can house a fleet of small crafts. So your selection on the fly before PvP and PvE will be larger.
For ships, I feel like you should limit to only one ship to switch on the fly. Say you order that ship to warp in to your position and you make a switch that way.
It's a grea t idea, and for those who say it ruins immersion then don't use it....I'm so sick off mmo's making me do tedious tasks because players want it to feel real.:P
But if you need immersion reason for this, well you're a VA and so responding to a situation you have more than one ship under your command so you would take the best one for that task.

I really don't think it would be an issue. This game isn't exactly immersion heavy in the first place. Swapping ships needs to be a lot easier, right now it's a hassle. That might have been fine a couple years ago, but by now almost everyone has multiple ships geared out that they like to fly.
