I have been playing STO since the second weekend of closed beta. I have been a lifetime subscriber since before the early start perios before launch. What I have not been, is a hardcore endgame player. While I initially was very enthusiastic about playing a KDF captain, the realities imposed before launch ended that for not only myself, but many players. Most left and never came back. I was committed to the game, and my Fed fleet, so I stayed, though I dabbled with a couple of KDF captains.
I recently took control of our joint fleet KDF branch, and the KDF captain I have been playing recently took possession of a Vo'Quv carrier. While it is just the vanilla version, and I only have the EC versions of the BOP, I have to say, I will not play anything other than a Vo'Quv again. I have had to restructure my BO skills, my consoles, and my weapons choices, not to mention my playstyle. It is all worth it.
I was in love with the battlecruisers from the start, eschewing the BOP and the raptors. Nothing in Starfleet could compare with a battlecruiser, especially the Vor'cha class and it's variant, the Tor'khat. But now I am in love with that fat targ, the Vo'Quv, and I will be a carrier man until they pull the plug on the game.
They make a wondrous mess of things. Brave amateurs, they do their part.
I just brought the Karfi this afternoon, always been an Escort pilot prior to this, I can say in the 10 minutes I played on it this afternoon after spending a good half hour on set up , I dont think I will ever go back to an Escort with my klink, the thing is so damn versatile!
I picked one up today too, but I have to say that my survivability was TRIBBLE. Like I said before, my build is not optimal, but on a foundry mission where the author said he couldn't play through without respawning, I managed to survive on my Vo'Quv. I will work on a build for the Kar'fi, I like how it turns, and I can probably get it setup to be more sturdy. I will have to take a look at my skill choices as well, see what I can tweak, I still have a gazillion respec tokens.

Two field generators and my Karfi shields run at 13600k
Not as tankey as my voquv but I can ignore fire from 5 elite nanite spheres so you should be able to handle some foundry mission
Make use of the phase shifter it's really handy and get some dhc's on the front mixed up with CSV and grab well 3 things will explode faster that way you don't need to tank
Use the jer'jais for bigger targets and the skulls for littler targets
These are my opinions you don't have to listen to them I'm not trying to **** measure as most on here do and you certainly don't have to implement them if you don't want to
----=====This is my opinion you don't have to listen and no one else has to read them these "OPINIONS" are based on my exploits and my learning other people will have their opinions and that's fine just don't knock my way of doing things thanks=====----
As an aside, man. I really regret some of my KDF ship purchases. Take a look at the Advanced Research Vessel Retrofit (fed, 2000 zen, tier 5). Then the Varanus (kdf, 2000 zen, tier 5).
Varanus is so much worse. Ok, it has one extra higher slot of science, but worse shields, worse hull, worse bonus power, and it's special console is of limited use even when it's working (which it usually doesn't.)
And let's not even get into those multi-mission fed ships.
Campaign: The Fenwick Cycle NWS-DKR9GB7KH
Wicks and Things: NW-DI4FMZRR4 : The Fenwick merchant family has lost a caravan! Can you help?
Beggar's Hollow: NW-DR6YG4J2L : Someone, or something, has stolen away many of the Fenwicks' children! Can you find out what happened to them?
Into the Fen Wood: NW-DL89DRG7B : Enter the heart of the forest. Can you discover the secret of the Fen Wood?
