I have over 3,000 Omega Marks right now, quite a bit more than I need for all the gear I want, and I've only run Infected Elite. I also got 1500 Marks from the conversion crate, but you really didn't need that many Salvages/EDCs to reach that number.
It's not really that grindy, unless you're buying up a ton of stuff before hitting T5.
Considering even a single ESTF with successful optional objective yields way more Marks than one day's worth of reputation project even needs, I'm not finding it terribly difficult to keep that aspect of the reputation system ticking over.
If you are referring to equipment costs, however... I'm holding off until I hit Tier 5 to buy anything. It's time and cost effective, and there is nothing preventing you from jumping straight to MkXII if they are available - as they don't require the previous Marks of gear to unlock.
It's not really that grindy, unless you're buying up a ton of stuff before hitting T5.
I think this is the issue.
If people are grabbing the cutting beam, and the borg torpedoes then they don't have enough marks to make it threw the tiers. I only want 1 pc to complete my MK XII Honor gaurd space set, and the Honor gaurd ground set. So all my marks go to getting to tier 5.
I go 1000 or so marks from the conversion and did ESTFs for a weekend I'm set for marks for a while.
You make so many marks off Elites that if you're grinding to get them, you're doing something wrong. Or have a ton of alts.
I can play ISE and KASE once a day each and make enough for a Mk XII set item in a little over five days if I fail the optional every single time and never get one of those random increased marks drops.
Compared to running Cure Ground Elite 5000 times to get a drop maybe?
I'll deal.
No kidding. I know somebody that ran Cure Ground literally over a hundred times (she kept a record) before she got the prototype she needed. Now you can play a mission a few times and get the marks you need for a top shelf piece of equipment. And it can be the easiest missions instead of having to face the undiluted stupidity that is random teams on cure ground, infected ground, and cure space.
You young'ns think you've got it hard? Back in my day we had to fight Borg uphill both ways in the middle of winter to earn our sets!

Grind. Repeating the same thing.
Doing it once a day for five days is still a grind.
You can run a single ISE each day to cover your Omegas for both Reps. Thing is, you're running that same ISE every single day for near 30 days. That's a grind.
You go to log in - what do I need to do?
Run the race. DOFF Winterland. Head to Tau Dewa. Repeat missions for the daily. If an Alert pops, do you risk hitting it? Sure, why not - it's something different. Hey, you got it - cool. Okay, back to repeating missions in Tau Dewa. Hit up that ISE. Well, TRIBBLE - you don't have the 200k+ EC that you need to cover the cost for the rep projects. Are you KDF? Oh well, too bad. Are you Fed? Hit up SB24 and you'll likely get the 200k+ from there and what you did in Tau Dewa.
Well then, that was fun! Not.
Oh, you have more than one toon? Yeah, go do the same stuff with the next one. Another? Yep, do it again.
What's that? You don't want to wait to do the grind for gear until after you've completed the grind for the rep to get the passives? Well, you might as well hold off grinding any of the store stuff or the sets - cause you'll likely be at the next tier of it before you can complete it. Okay, so you just want the secondary Rom/Borg sets? Sure, knock yourself out - yep, that's right - near a weeks worth of Marks for each if you stuck to your one ISE a day.
So you'll do two a day! Waiting an hour between being able to do them. Well, that's some time to go farm Dil and EC to help pay for the various things you're doing, right?
Well, what about running CSE/KASE? Are you crazy? With all the people realizing that they can get 3-4x as many Marks from an Elite as a regular STF... going into them for the first time in their boats of random gear where they haven't even bothered running replays to try to gear up and having no clue whatsoever about what to do/what not to do in an ESTF that you can actually fail, losing out on the time you invested in it as well as having to eat the CD? Yeah, no thanks...have fun with that.
Hrmm, let's see - pre S7 you could Borg out in a night's play of pretty damn casual STFs. You might even find a Mk X or Mk XI piece from one of the other sets. Over a weekend, you could usually complete one or more of the Mk X/Mk XI sets - usually you'd be done in a week or two for that... then you could hit up the grind in ESTFs (course, you'd have a better idea of what to do in those STFs - have tweaked your build some from your experience in a team environment - and that rainbow/skittles boat with random consoles you picked up the first hour you played would be a distant memory...but S7 fixed that, am I right?)...
What do I do to avoid the grind for Omega Marks? I do as little as possible. I accept that I can no longer acquire gear in any semblance of a reasonable amount of time. I avoid ESTFs outside of ISE like the plague, because it's already not fun doing the grind without that additional nonsense (and I don't blame the players in the least, there was a system that worked - and - that's probably why they got rid of it). If I see a random Borg Alert during my travels that I haven't done that day, I'll do it. Why? Because at least it's something different - it's not part of the grind, repeating the same thing over and over and over until I get my grubby little hands on whatever shiny I'm after...
The game should be fun. It shouldn't be a job. We're not being paid to play, many are actually paying to play... could you imagine if you paid your boss each day for the work you did?
There's a vast difference between working hard for something, having a sense of accomplishment from having completed it... and... picking a pencil up from the left side of the desk and placing it on the right side of the desk, picking a pencil up from the left side of the desk and placing it on the right side of the desk, picking a pencil up from the left side of the desk and placing it on the right side of the desk, picking a pencil up from the left side of the desk and placing it on the right side of the desk, picking a pencil up from the left side of the desk and placing it on the right side of the desk, picking a pencil up from the left side of the desk and placing it on the right side of the desk, picking a pencil up from the left side of the desk and placing it on the right side of the desk, picking a pencil up from the left side of the desk and placing it on the right side of the desk, picking a pencil up from the left side of the desk and placing it on the right side of the desk, picking a pencil up from the left side of the desk and placing it on the right side of the desk, and that's what STO's become with S7...
I hit up Defera every couple days to do a few City & Power Plant easies while "Higher Ground" ticks away in the background. Periodically try a Red Alert (half of those have failed, so the motivation to waste my time on them isn't strong).
Up to Omega tier 2, with ~100 marks saved up. It'll be awhile til I can grab the Mk X borg engines.
(Meanwhile, I'm close to Tier 4 Rom, 1500 marks waiting, bought two pieces of the Reman space set to go with my quest shield, and a steady chain of regular & winter epohhs in progress.)

Rom Marks are kicking my butt... but that's because I don't do ground. The pittance of Marks you get even from a good Azure is annoying and makes the reward for a regular STF look pretty good. If the Tholian Alert's didn't drop you on the wrong side of the map constantly, the time wasted in it being full or already done wouldn't be so bad. Even then, the reward vs. effort for the Tholian Alert compared to a Borg one is just silly low as well. The Ensnared again...well, the reward simply does not match the effort.
In the long run though, there's likely going to be much less need of them than Omega Marks - so as you're doing your daily thing on your way to T5... the leftovers from the daily reps will add up. On a toon you want to Rom out, though, and ground's not your thing... oh man, it can really kick your butt compared to Omegas.
Btw, I fully accept that's on me - mind you - there are decent ways to make decent Roms... it's just not my thing. Still though, the effort reward for Rom Marks in space is borked compared to how easy it is for Omegas. Sure, the Tau Dewa Patrol daily's easier than the ESTF... but it's a daily, so if you want more than it gives - you're looking at much more effort in space than the Omegas.
i do have 3 toons grinding reputation right now. 2 of them are in the 1/2 of T5, one just got to T1.
So, daily 3x ISE
as i need the borg console on the 3rd toon, ill surely will pay a revisit to the other 2 STF's too. 500 marks = 4x ISE (260) 4x CSE (260) plus the one i have to do for progress..
Ok running 7 Infected Space Elites in a matter of 5 days in not grinding. I am sitting on 8k Omega Marks I got 5k from the crate. I got this many just running an Elite STF once a day. If you call this grinding than this means that logging on and playing a mission once a day is grinding also. Hate to say it, but you have to do work in order to get the good gear they will not just throw it at you for free.

Yeah. What he said....
You want to eat your dessert? Gotta eat them carrots first.
It is impossible for casual player like us get more then 2000 marks to get the complete set. Only romulans marks are possible, just need to do the anoying epohh tag and raise then. Or for less rewards you can play fast and furious and raise epohh for 100 or 200 romulan marks.

Casual players like who? Do some Elite STF's and you'll get 2k marks in not too long really. Yes you'll have to do a fair number of them but if you want that gear, that's how you get it.
It's not like it was really all that much faster with the old system.

It's not an aversion to work in the least. It's an aversion to monotony. It's an aversion to grind.
They could increase the amount of time required, the amount of everything required, as long as there was substantive variety in what you could do to earn it.
It's not about work - it's about doing the same thing - the boredom - the tedium - the sheer lack of any potential enjoyment. In the end, it's a game - the work should be fun.
Also, it's not a case of running 7 in 5 days. It's a case of running at least one for over 30 days just to do the rep. Then it's a case of all the others that you're going to be running for the additional 3000+ Marks you'll need.
The thing is, it's all completely optional... there are ways to add more variety to it (join a fleet, playing with those with a clue opens up more you can do) - and thus reduce the feel that it's a grind. You can take the need to have it yesterday aspect from it. It's all optional... much of that feeling of grind is self-imposed. That doesn't change that it's a grind though... just the way one may feel about it or approach it.

Do the Winter Epohh DOFF missions. I've got a steady, heavy income of Rommie Marks coming in from them.
How about an activity where you tag Borg so you can do Borg Research to get your very own pet Borg. You can raise them to Elite Borg where you can trade them for Omega Marks. Of course, these would be deweaponized Borg with no weapons or assimilation capabilities. Or doing the same thing for genetically engineered wolverines that chew on Borg limbs.

I hope you were not responding to my comment - I said nothing about 7 ESTF in 5 days - I said 7 estf for the marks for the console that you used to get for free + on top of those marks you have to grind out 15k dilthium - that's grinding a lot for a console I could do in a 30 min mission.
I run some estf's when I feel like it. Sometimes I go a few days without doing any, then some days I run 3 or 4. I don't care which ones I do. I don't consider this a grind at all. I play when I feel like it and I enjoy the time I spend playing.
And even with this casual attitude, my character has 1800 marks lying around and I'm nearly to t4. I would be much further along if I'd played in the first couple of weeks after s7 launched.
The problem I have is not wanting to play my tac toon cause she already has full mk12 KHG space set and borg weapons. I suppose I could grind it up for the mk12 ground set, but I tend to avoid doing ground stuff as much as possible so it's not really a priority for me.

Oooh, I want to raise some Eporgg! Do we get rare evolutions too?
If you want a game with zero repetition, go play something single-player and strictly linear. And remember to get rid of it after finishing it so you're not tempted to replay it.
How are you acquiring your Omega Marks without grinding away?I am a casual player not a grinds player who sits on the server all day.
As someone who went from steady to casual play, I gave up upon hitting the start of tier five. On Saturday, December 15, 2012, I logged out of "STO" for an indefinite hiatus. Even though you may get to the end of tier five, you will still need to grind endless dilithium to buy items.
All Cryptic had to do is make the elite gear available for EDC.
It should have been that simple.
15 EDC (per piece) = Recruit MK X
25 EDC (per piece) = Veteran MK XI
35 EDC (per piece) = Elite MK XII
If they did something like the above, I think many-many people would have been happy.
How the reputation system currently works:
~ Grind Omega Marks to level tiers.
~ Grind Omega Marks to claim tiers.
~ Grind Omega Marks to buy MK X, MK XI, and MK XII Omega/MACO/Honor Guard space and ground gear.
~ Grind Omega Marks to unlocks store items.
~ Grind dilithium to buy from the stores.
Its a very annoying and redundant system, which requires excessive grinding and long waiting periods. Zero fun in the process. If you got stressed over the Reputation System, like myself, don't even bother looking at the fleet bases.
I hope Cryptic wakes up and sees the nightmare in which "Star Trek Online" has become.
Casual players like who? Do some Elite STF's and you'll get 2k marks in not too long really. Yes you'll have to do a fair number of them but if you want that gear, that's how you get it.
Probably depends on what definition of "casual" each person has (it's one of those vague words that keeps getting used all sorts of ways depending on the particular forum & poster.)
For some people "casual" might mean "I only do elite STFs on an irregular schedule, maybe 3-4 a week".
For other people "casual" might mean "Doesn't do 'Elite' stuff, because that's for l33t d00ds, not casuals".
I don't see what all the rush is about... Why does everything have to be done as fast as possible? If you see ESTFs as a grind, then your playing wrong or your head is wrong. I only play them with my fleeties to have fun... get a group together and we roll through CSE, KASE, and ISE... TRIBBLE that new one that's so difficult... not worth the hassle unless I hear different... I am rolling in omega marks and BNPs.
I use the Tau Dewa sector block as test run as I tweak my build everyday with new stuff and ideas. NOT a grind, but fun. Did Tric bombing yday... that was fun. Now I am fiddling with a threat console today... Scan enough radiation on the ground, you get a space radiation daily for 10 marks too I do that... when I feel like it...
You all do it to yourselves I swear... I have no sympathy....

500 marks - 15k dilthium - so 20k dithium total (500 marks = 5k)
you have to run 7 elite infected just for the marks!! - so 1.5 hours of work then X amount of hours to get the extra 15k dithium - lets say 3
So from free in a 30 min mission if you have done it before - to 5 hours of grinding
Yeah that's a great move
Considering how nice that console actually is, it's really kind of ridiculous that they just handed it out for an easy mission reward.

My Tribble of Borg could use some company.
