How about something a little more generic?

I've been thinking this for a while now. With the game having expanded as much as it has and creative players taking their own spin on their characters, there's more and more room to take on roles that aren't specifically that of a Starfleet officer.

As such, if someone wants to take on a non-Starfleet role, (civilian, mercenary, or things of that sort) it really doesn't make sense to be flying around in a Federation starship does it?

I suggest that there be some additional starship options, available to both factions of course, that are of civilian or mass produced design.

The Tuffli Freighter was a great addition in this category. And sure, the shuttles could sort of be seen in this way as well.

But, I'd like to see the Talarian ships made playable. They're already used in game as Acamarians, and a host of other races as well.

The freighter at the beginning of ST3:TSFS that has been reused over, and over again, most notably as the Sheliak colony vessel, would be another good one.

Maybe it's already in the works. If so, great.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who thought of this. Can anyone think of others that I didn't?

Here is the problem: many more people want to play as a Romulan than a faction neutral mercenary, and a Romulan faction isnt coming any time soon. So it would be years before something like this would ever happen, meaning any conversation we have it about it now would be long dead and buried by then.

I'm not suggesting a whole new faction, just adding a couple civilian ships in. It can be within the existing two faction system. Just make the civilian vessels available to both sides. That way you can at least look like you're not in Starfleet or KDF.

There's always the Tuffli freighter if you want to fly something that doesn't look like a military ship. If you can get one.

That said, there have been some neat looking ships that weren't Starfleet or KDF in the various series, and I'd love to see them in game one way or the other.

Well, you can roll a Ferengi character and fly in one of their vessels.

Personally, I would love to see a Ferengi faction. In this faction you could be of any race and all the equipment would be either Ferengi design or surplus equipment, various military and civilian equipment.

The missions would revolve around smuggling, piracy, trading, mercenary work, et cetera.

The Ferengis are just too good of a race to not have their own faction. Of course, I think we should make the Romulan and Cardassian factions first, but this could be a very fun faction to play if Cryptic did it right.

For now though, you have to play federation and fly in a freighter or D'kora or play Klingon and be a pirate or mercenary. The Klingon's have the most non-KDF vessels whereas the Feds only have the lockbox ships.

If there was content and game mechanics that allowed it, this could actually be a lot of fun. But as it stands I reckon it'd require a complete overhaul of the game.

Would be good if they found a way to make it useful and sociable.

I'm confused. If you are still playing the Fed faction, then every mission you take in game will be given to you by Starfleet, and you will have to do something that a Starfleet officer would to complete the mission. Flying in a different ship wont change what your doing with it. Or are you talking about just parking it somewhere and RPing?

Or, alternatively, provide KDF Orions, Nausicaans, and Letheans alternative gameplay within THAT faction.

Not saying I'm opposed to a Ferengi faction somewhere down the line, just that we already have a faction that needs additional content right now and those kinds of missions would fit some KDF characters. We don't necessarily need a new faction to do those kinds of missions.

How about putting the "civilian" lock box ships (and maybe the lotus class ) in the c Store
and an Unlockable Civilian "micro " faction
with no actual mission content of its own but options to do universal content (trading , stfs , and other stuff)

No boss No Command structure and no one promoting you to "god emperor of Dune"
