Collecting Epohh's

As a collector of items in STO from lockboxes to lobi items, zen store, holidays and events, featured episodes and more, I'm a little worried about being able to get all the Epohh pets on the character I have set up to collect every pet in the game.
Based on what I've seen and heard, could be wrong, theres 6 different varieties and 4 different age levels for each, a total 24 different Epohh's to get during this winter event, and the way you get them apparently comes down to 'chance' with the duty officer system.
Is this correct? and if so is there a way to add an option to trade one pet for another from the NPC that gives you the doff assignments? So if I get 2 elder pets of the same kind I can trade one of them for an elder pet of another Epohh variety?
