A quick way to check up on Captains and ships

Thanks to an, shall we say, "interesting" quirk of the new STO Gateway you can see any player's ship and BOff details with just a creative bit of editing and the knowledge of said player's captain name and @handle.

Ex. "Foafi@thegrimcorsair"

Just replace the part in parentheses in the address bar where it says (Foafi@thegrimcorsair) with the character@handle of whoever you're looking up. A couple captains I looked up off the top of my head.

    Surprised you didn't get your character renamed to Lizzy. :P

    That aside, it seemed prudent to black out your name as I hadn't asked before hand. :)

    I tried to get Norvo's info but couldn't for the life couldn't pin down his full character name. :(

    ok, muh plasma ktinga might be a bit more secret lol

    the name, and its origin may be found on memory alpha. say, what ever happened to the murderous brother of one of trek's main cast by say 2409...

    Not gonna lie, I'm a bit jealous of your guns on that thing, and if I'm bein' honest, you could rename it the "HazEm won't help, either."

    study a build all you want.

    recreate the piloting, timing and mindset of the player...

    thats a whole different story.

    All those things will be for not if your Patrol Escort's rockin' 2 EPtE's, and Aux2Batt for engineering powers; MES and Jam Sensors for your sci powers, and one tactical console of each type to match the 4 different damage types of weapons you're using. 8O)

    I do wish I could see people's DOff's, though. Without that you're missing a pretty critical part of a lot of builds.

    using this should automatically lock you out of pvp for 7 days (per use)

    IF, this is unintentional, then I understand how they got TRIBBLE... and didn't know it for a year.

    If you want to look this up, look for 'URL Substitution' or incremental substitution for scripting. It's like going to a website, then changing the URL slightly to look at a folder that should not be viewable.

    To use an analogy, it's like building a house... but forgetting to put up the roof.

    On the other paw, does this mean I should expect another additional keybind/button so I can target a player and then look up his gateway stats? Is this like pulling up the crew list of an enemy ship... from facebook?

    Thank Altana, they don't put the password file on the same server as the beta 'Gateway'. Right? Guys? Why do I hear panicked, running footsteps? Surely just because you use the same login detai... oh...

    Being able to view other player's characters and BOFFs is akin to the original Captain's database -- please note that although you can see your Energy Credit and Dilithium totals, others can not while looking at your character.

    Besides, like the Captain said on the last page, a build is a starting point at most, you need the skills to follow through on it and make it work.

    Don't worry, the secrets of the Sci-com Alpha are safe with me.

    Though why you'd run one plasma torp damage console and one plasma beam weapon console is beyond me.

    S'ok, I don't think you actually PvP and assistance is unnecessary in PvE.

    Regarding the whole spying bit... y'know the Gateway is intended to let you see other people's ships and configurations, right? That's working as intended. It's the new Captains Database, basically.

    Oh, well, I guess there's an easy way to fix people looking you up: Close your account.

    I have a better idea

    Close it to EVERYONE but the user
    OR charge 200 zen a look

    And thats do not assist under any circumstances
    I see you getting dental problems THEY can have you as well

    And no i do not currently PVP (not my thing to kill the good guys)

    im all for privacy and everything, but i got nothing to hide as far as what my ships are equipped with. its proof that i kill legit

    Cool, they're adding the option to opt out of having your ship and character info visible to other players.

    The real issue isn't so much someone learning what other people use in general, but if this game actually had serious PvP it would give an advantage to KDF. The reason is the KDF for the most part could start of cloaked, then look up the Feds' builds and adjust their builds to exploit weakness of the Feds' builds while shoring up any potential weakness their own may have etc. This does assume any changes a player makes is updated near real time.

    Maybe they should make it so logging into one logs you out of the other?

    Won't work, people could just make an alt account for scouting. Really, not that big a deal if you can hide your info or if there's a 15 minute delay and people swap stuff around when the match pops.
