It would sure help avoid the "WTT TRIBBLE product for TRIBBLE product" in zone chat - though notthat zone chat makes any sense anymore.
Zone chat are mainly used by trollers, griefers, and everything in between, hell it is now spilling over to local chat, lol.
I might give your channel a try.
A trade channel is helpful. I doubt I will ever use it, but I know of a few people who might like it.
It seems to me that on the exchange, buyers and sellers name their own prices.
If you price something low, you will usually sell it quickly.
I have nothing against a trade channel, but I do not understand why it would be in any way BETTER than the exchange. Its only real use seems to be as an alternative for the exchange when it is buggy.
Typically for pure trade.
Examples:
Trade my Weaver for your Wells sort of thing. Trades that may not involve Energy Credits (WTF are energy credits anyways? who invented that @ss of a concept?)
I can see its potential - Its a way for a quick transaction - while the exchange may take time to attract attention.
The channel can attract it rather quickly - one draw back though (People have to know about it and use it)
I'm assuming as smart players, folks will use the exchange to compare prices during a Trade chat.
Exchange prices are often overpriced. There are those of us who just want to turn an honest profit, instead of gouging people like Ferengi. I trust this channel will be like that.
A Romulan Strike Team, Missing Farmers and an ancient base on a Klingon Border world. But what connects them? Find out in my First Foundary mission: 'The Jeroan Farmer Escapade'
Energy credits (commonly referred to simply as credits) were mentioned in a few episodes of the series and more frequently in books which dealt with life on Federation worlds such as Earth, Vulcan and Andoira. Though money went the way of the dinosaur, you still couldn't have a civilisation just take take take all the time, so EC limited what people could use per month, each person had an allocation (the same no matter what job they did or where they lived) and could use them for public replicators, transporters etc.
I am not an economist, but I do know that according to the laws of supply and demand, in a free market, a scarce product cannot be overpriced. It is the exact price the market determines it is worth.
Maybe the exchange prices on certain items are more than you want to pay.
Another purpose of the channel is for price information. If people are in the mood, They can announce price raises and fallings on particular items, such as a Temporal ship, or Tuffly. This channel is in no way designed to replace the exchange, that would just be silly, but it is designed to be the next best thing, doing things the Exchange cannot do.

That assumes nobody's working to game the system to artificially raise prices on specific items. This is possible for people with lots of EC, strong internet connection, and time to burn.
Overpriced for one person might not be overpriced for another. Especially if they have a ton of credits to burn.
Personally, I think if something has a given value of 10,000, and it's being sold for 1 million, it's overpriced.

Well, that is the whole basis of supply and demand. The demand for an item priced at 10,000 EC will be greater than for an item prices at 1 million EC. Supply and demand reach a price equalibrium and most of the items bought and sold will be within one standard deviation of that equalibrium point.
By the laws of supply and demand, nothing can be overpriced. If the laws of supply and demand hold, the price cannot be manipulated.
Now, certain very rare items could have their price manipulated and thus not be determined by the law. However, this is unlikely to be true of 99% of the items sold on the exchange.

What's stopping you from listing something at a lower price?
Wicks and Things: NW-DI4FMZRR4 : The Fenwick merchant family has lost a caravan! Can you help?
Beggar's Hollow: NW-DR6YG4J2L : Someone, or something, has stolen away many of the Fenwicks' children! Can you find out what happened to them?

Nobody said there's no gouging. In fact, TheTradingChannel is a place to go to find better deals than the exchange. What We are saying, is the channel is a good resource if You're looking to barter for an item if You have an EC cap, or low EC but rich in items. There's deals being made all the time.

That doesn't make sense.
If you aren't saying that, I'm not referring to you.

No. If something has a "given value" (given by whom, by the way?) and it is being sold for 1 million (an actual sale, not just being listed for sale at 1 million), then its value is 1 million between the buyer and seller and the "given value" is ridiculous and should be ignored.
Or do you think that the 10 or so Very Rare Mk XII Field Generator on the exchange that everybody in the game should want should be sold for 10k ec, because that is about what you can vendor it for?
Unlike this necromancer-raised year-dead thread, yes it is.
Necro 1: was more than 30 days after the previous post. Should have been locked at that point.
Necro 2: although understandable, it was very long after the previous message.
Now don't be too harsh on this guy. He has 9 posts atm.
razorwalker, let me tell you of one of the rules on the forums. Don't post in a thread that is inactive for over 30 days. This is called necro'ing and is annoying for the moderators of the forums. Create a new threat with a link to the previous threat if you want to discuss the topic further. I don't think anyone will blaim you for not knowing this rule, seeing you only have 9 posts at this moment, so that is why I am friendly explaining this. Don't feel sad, many have been this road.
It is to be expected that a Forum Moderator will close this threat in a matter of hours.

Hi, I haven't been removed from the channel, due to real life matters My time is limited with STO. As for the channel going private, there was much discussion about it and the members felt this was the right direction to take, so long as it does not hamper the growth of the channel. We had come regularly under the attack of trolls from a number of other channels, and due to this we made it private for the time being.
due to the channel going private, it has a much more positive atmosphere than it used to have. Trollers, scammers and the like will be removed from the channel, with them having no way to rejoin the channel or know the channel activities, making the channel have a cleaner atmosphere. For those who feel that it might be a restrictive direction of the moderators desiring power or however, I can assure you that this is not the case. The mods know the rules, they will abide by the rules or be removed from having a moderator position.
We just felt that this was a positive direction to encourage a positive atmosphere and maintain the channel reputation. If there are any complaints or questions, please feel free to mail Me directly ingame, and I will address every issue.

Now, Usko is taking some time off, so we go to the next post and:
So there's your answer: PM a channel moderator and ask for an invitation.
trolls like me? somebody that referred numerous people to the channel? somebody that used the channel frequently to buy fleetmarks for our dead feddie fleet? somebody that never brought any drama to the channel via any venue full stop?
oh, i see. somebody that is an active part of NoP Public Service and gives away invites and fleet ships every day. somebody that is a member of Nerds of Prey.
just a word of warning to people out there: you will be kicked from this channel for no reason other than participation in NoP Public Service. so you have a choice to make... free access to top-tier holdings and fleet ships via NoP Public Service? or access to paid services and the like via 'thetradingchannel'.
im sorry, i was wrong. they really do have no tolerance for free access. i will make sure that is the new message i deliver whenever the opportunity arises.
