First off, I own the Galaxy-X Dreadnought and fly it all the time. I use Hakashens build and find it to work well. However, it is being left behind by all the new ships, so I would like to start a discussion about possible small improvements that could bring the ship back in line with other VA ships. Here are a few different ideas I've had:
1) Battle-Cloak: yes, this will most likely send full-time KDF (I probably spend 70% of my time on KDF myself) users into an uproar but it would give the Galaxy-X something unique on the Fed side, while not making it OP. I would also suggest that it not require a console slot.
OR
2) Remove the LT and Ensign Tac stations and replace with LTC tactical. And Reduce the cooldown time on the Phaser lance from 3 min to 2 min.
OR
3) This is not my idea, but it bears repeating; If the Galaxy-X is given Saucer Separation the phaser lance could be changed into a Wide Beam weapon.
OR
4) Remove the LT and Ensign Tac stations and replace with LTC tactical. And give the phaser lance the ability to do either a wide beam attack and the lance attack (each with a 3 min timer and shared cooldown) like we have now.
What do you guys think? I'm eager to hear what everyone else would like to see.
My honest opinion is that you're never gonna make that ship work within the confines of STO's existing mechanics. Its intended roles just don't gel at all.

Considering a lot of people have already gotten it to work just fine in many circumstances I don't think that's true at all. I can't speak for PVP as I haven't tried it in this ship but it more than handles it's own in Elite STFs.

Lol I should just stop posting outside the PvP board, this is all I ever really get from others.
I suppose it's fine in PvE but, you know, what isn't. In any case I'll politely bow out.
Probably never going to happen, but sometimes its fun to just have shipbuilding exercises.
A thought I had when they Featured it recently was to swap the tac officers to more engineers, and then turn the Commander into a Tactical BOFF. On one hand it dramatically increases offensive potential, letting you use CRF3 or APO3, but with a serious price too. No more ES3, EWP 2 or 3, DEM3, or Aux2Struct3. No dual EPTS3. No dual Tac Team without using up the Lt slot. 3 ensign eng slots to figure out. You'd almost have to use a dual Aux2Bat setup on it. I don't know if it'd be really powerful or really gimped in actual gameplay, but it struck me as a potentially very interesting idea.

Not a bad idea, they could potentially accomplish this with making one of the stations Universal (the LTC one perhaps), forcing you to choose between Tac, Sci or ENG focus.

Well I meant more specifically fixed, to intentionally create limitations and to not step on the Odyssey's schtick as 'the flexible cruiser.'

Ah, I see. I wouldn't be opposed to what you were referring to. It should be a more tactical focused ship. I would actually argue that if they did do this the ship's hull would need to be increased maybe 10%-15%, it being a Dreadnought and all.

We try to help....But when carebears havent had a taste of what real damage and tanking is because the game doesnt require it of them, they dont seem to understand what advice we give.

And we love being condescended to, too. Really helps us especially appreciate the advice of those giving it.
Don't take this the wrong way, but the Galaxy-X has about as much use in this game as the Galaxy-R, which is outside of NSTFs, almost none. It's too clunky, nothing that really makes it stand out. The Phaser Lance? That's a one trick pony. This ship really only has use against slow moving targets, like the Borg.
And besides, it's not the only thing that needs improvement. There are other ships that really need more improvements (after all, this bugger can use DHCs), and they haven't been touched yet, so you're kinda blowing smoke here buddy.
As for the changes in BOff stations? Yes, that would make it a viable ship again, but so would changes to about a half dozen other ships as well.
It is said the best weapon is one that is never fired. I disagree. The best weapon is one you only have to fire... once.

I would prefer to keep this thread civil but if you were ever wondering why so few people play PvP, its because of people like you and attitudes like that. Now, let's get back on topic.

Yes, I agree this ship is one of many that needs a second look by developers. As for the this ship not having much use outside of NSTF's, I definitely disagree, I and others fly the Galaxy-X ship in ESTF's and it more than holds it's own. Assuming you set it up properly it can deal more damage than a cruiser, but less than an escort while still being able to tank quite respectably. Check out Hakashin's guide to Galaxy-x setup, its quite useful.
If you start a thread about the other ships that need a second pass by devs, I'd happily put in my two cents, but the reason I posted about the Galaxy-X only is because it would have been too much for one thread IMO.

I think thats kind of the point actually, that nothing about it stands out. Its a slow version of the Soverign with a couple of gimmicks. Very meh. Hence 'hmm, what could be changed on it to keep it about the same power level, but give it its own distinctive identity?' Make it into Admiral Riker's Cool "All Good Things" ship.
As for ships that need overhauling, can't really argue there. Gorn sci ships and Orion FDCs certainly aren't worth their price tags. The Gal-R is less effective than free ships. The MVAE is starting to lose ground. And the KDF could use some more 'normal' C-store ships for all three of their main ship classes. Not that any of those are at all likely to happen, but might be interesting to 'talk shop' anyways.
This might sound weird at first, but one of the highest things on my Galaxy-X christmas list is an Aux power boost. I know it's an odd request for a very un-science focused ship, but the Galaxy-X works very well when using Aux to Battery, Aux to Dampeners, Tractor Beams, and power drain abilities, all of which use Aux power.
Aux to Dampeners helps with the turn rate while improving survivability, Aux to Battery+Exocomp Doff solves a lot of power problems, Aux to Structural can remove the need for Engie Team, and Tractors/Power Drains make getting the pesky little guys in front of your guns easier. So I can see an Aux buff being very helpful.
A slight hull buff to put it closer to par with the Oddy Ops would be more than welcome as well.
I would very much like to see the Galaxy Cloak become a in-ship ability. Using the cloak the Galaxy-X technically only has 8 consoles to work with. Not very pleasant. That being said, I do not think it should be a battle cloak. That... just no. No battle cloak for the Galaxy-X. That is a like that should not be crossed.
I also think that the lance should be given something to be more in line with the Vesta cannon-thing would be nice as well. If it were as, if not slightly more powerful than the Vesta Gun, had a higher critical chance, near zero miss rate or a cool down of two minutes, I would be okay if it had a 2% firing radius. While it would be nigh impossible to aim, it would be closer to what was actually shown in the show.

Give the Gal-X more aux so it can put it elsewhere. XD

The dreadnought is one of my favorite ships..even with its numerous shortcomings. Two simple changes would make the ship relevant again and worth using. First, update the bridge officer layout so you can actually pack some decent tactical skills. (won't happen, but would be nice). Second, add a fourth tac console (fleet version will most likely get this).

Agreed, reverse Lt. Tactical and Lt. Commander Engineering. Then drop Ensign Tactical for Ensign Engineering. That would help in effectiveness. What would truly improve the dreadnought would be to give it +2 turn rate. A turn rate of 8 would actually permit it to use it's dual heavy cannons. Right now it turns a little better than a carrier.

Thing is with that layout it would just be an Excelsior with a lance and cloak. Trade being a copy of one ship for a copy of another.
I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.
I must admit, respect points to Trendy for laying down the law like that.
The galaxy X is intended to be a dreadnaught, it has crappy maneuverability, mounts DHCs, can take a beating, and has lance spike goodness. I would create a fleet version like so
Shield Mod: 1.1
Hull: 48,000
4 tac, 4 eng, 2 sci consoles
Same turn rate, impulse, etc.
Grant current console a bonus to resist all.
A lt commander tact bo or at least 2 lt tact bo, so we can pack punch more consitently.
And then we can speak about a real canon build.
For that, remove 1 lt science slot.
Power level: +10w +5s +5e +0 aux.
+0.5 base turn rate or +1. ( and dont tell me that game balanced breaking when i see a breen ship as big as mine with 13 TRIBBLE turn rate)
And that it for galaxy x
If they ever done a fleet version, add 1 tact console slot.
And we love being condescended to, too. Really helps us especially appreciate the advice of those giving it.
Im sorry, I didnt intend the comment to be condescending. Maybe I should have just PMed Shimmer.
Its exam season and Im under some stress...and strain...and forces and pressure and torsion (Im in engineering :P)
I think its just frustration that I find with the players in the game. The AFKers, the people who shouldnt be in Elite, the guys who blow generators when the others arent low. The rainbow boats and captain Kirks with random builds. Again, I apologize.
I like the Galaxy-X too. My biggest thing would be saucer separation. The turn rate on it is horrendous. After separation, give it a 12 turn rate.
Saucer seperation, no. I never liked the idea with the dreadnought. The spinal lance is mounted through the entire saucer section. It just makes no sense.
Cloak is not given as it comes with the C-Store version.
Phaser Lance:
Base damage of 4k
Weapons power damage scale
Does not deplete weapons power.
5 shot burst vs up to 3 different targets (Not 5 each, 5 total)
If only one target, 5 shot burst with 2k damage base
3 minute cooldown
Graphic changed to standard phaser beam but with a crimson color to it (Almost like AP).
I would like it to actually be an obvious tactical focused cruiser for a change. All of the stats of a cruiser, except the CMD is tactical. Which opens up big doors for the dreadnought. You could finally mount DHCs and have them actually do something for a change! Or gives you APO3 or APB3 or whatever you like. I just think if it's supposed to be a tactical based cruiser, it's boff stations should reflect that by trading survivability for offensive punch.

the chances of the galaxy x getting some love seem low. i did see a while back they had done considerable work on saucer seperation and the spinal lance having a shotgun affect when separated but cryptic once again just gave up like they do with everything
Saucer separation could really help bring this ship back into the spotlight.
There was never shown to be a saucer separation of the Galaxy X on screen but what if it separates like the Odyssey?
The Saucer moves off but the star drive still has a weird pointy thing on it?

Right. And the double LtCmdr Engineering really trades survivability for punch. And with a turn rate equivalent to the Excelsior it's still perfectly fair right? Oh, and more hull. But hey, that's still balanced right?
And your comment on the obvious tactical cruiser... Um... Yeah, so apparently the Regent and Imperial class cruisers don't exist. Wow. When did they get taken out? Guess I missed that patch. Sorry to say, that really was deserving of a facepalm sir.
And here it is.
