Reputation system ruined STO for me

issueman1issueman1 Member Posts: 0 Arc User
That's it in a nut shell. Life time member, all the maco gear. The fact i HAVE to grind AGAIN to get access to something I already have access to ruined the game for me. And the fact you cannot cancel one you selected.

So Cryptic, -1 paying customer.

I did it for a few days, but after about the 800th time of running there and pressing f, I screamed out loud due to sheer boredom.

Games are supposed to be fun. I am supposed to feel relaxed and even excited. I'm not supposed to dread the tasks, like when I have to mow the yard on a hot day.

It's not supposed to be a chore to play a game.

Maybe that sounds weird to mmo players out there.

OP, my advice is just stop playing the game like you are. Just have fun. Find some stories. They are there if you just stop caring about shinies. I mean, with all of your gear, is your quest to make the game even easier and more mind-numbing that it is on normal?

lets see so far ive had to do

-stfs on crazy amount go originally get the borg space set "which back then was uber"
-then, they introduced thew new ground/space sets, had to gear 5 of my toons before knowing what s7 had in store, also note it took ages to get the proto's to get all 5 geared.. so numerous runs there
-now they redo the system and now i have to regrind to get gear that i already have, plus extra items they added in not to mention a NEW shiney set :P

-now I cant forsee the future but at this rate they re edit this system and give everything out for free eventually then remake a new system with a new shiney set

It's kind of ridiculousness that once you do the rep to get the XP to get to the next tier you have to also do another project to unlock that tier, ok, I can maybe accept that, but then you have to do long projects to unlock the store items! They cost lots of Marks, and it takes lots of time, and you only get 10 XP out of doing them. That part I really find ridiculous, that you have to do projects to unlock the store items, and its very costly in resources and time. IMO the store items should be unlocked after you do the 1 hour project to get to the next tier, at that point all the store items should be there. So, those extra projects to unlock each store item, costing time and more resources that require grinding is just plain nuts, I don't like it.

I don't think that Reputation is a horrible idea, I just think it needs to be implemented better. For example, if New Romulus missions and STF's granted the commodities and items like Hypos and Regenerators you needed. That by itself would make it so much better.

The Rep System is great. It's great for the game, its great for the players, its great for me.
It gives us new rewards, it helps those who not been so lucky, it lets you know exactly what your getting into, it take so little time to advance it, and you can choose what you want!

I have all 4 mark XII not count duplicates, and I can't wait to make that All 6.

The passives are power and useful :D.

I understand change is hard. But look again! The road goes up!!

The only things I wish were clear, is how the stuff is awarded, and the missions that give reputation would give you the respective EC items you need. I don't like pulling out of my hard won cash. :(

The Rep System itself, I like.

The things about the Rep System I do not like is more grind added to Fleet Mark, Dilithium, and DOFF grinding. And like said above, the new STF store in delaying people that been working hard on completing their MK12 sets for many months. Which is an insult to a system that supposed to "help" them.

I like the reputation system. I don't like all of the costs associated with it (not just the dilithium cost of equipment, but also the mark cost), but overall, this is a much clearer, goal-oriented way of getting the gear. Randomness sucks.

Point he was making was, it does NOTHING To achieve teh stated objective of appealing to players who do not make this game an 8-16 hour job, 40-80 hours a week.

That is blatantly false. To advance in the Reputation systems the mail costs is Marks. Those can be gotten by approriate game play for a 2-3 hours a week in order to fuel the projects. That's all one needs. The grind kicks in only if you want to get the Reputation gear. Yes, one will have to grind. But how is that really different from the old way? I'll grant that Dilihtium does extend the grind a bit. But you can gather dilihtium with dailies while your want on FA and STF cool down timers to expire.

Been here since launch... seen all the reworks for gear...

    Rep grind vs Previous incarnation..

Clear Path Grind vs Random Draw?

Sorry, I like knowing there is a set number of things I need to do... the rep system works.. we just have to adapt..

It's better than the previous system, ran clear over 400 KAGEs before my main got his first proto armor. Not an exaggeration btw, he had near 2mil dil refined by the time I got it

Did you notice any difference in gameplay after you did this stuff for that stuff? What kind of a % point would you say that it made your main character tougher?

I'm not trying to make a point. I'm just curious, since I would never try to do what you did. I'm wondering what the payoff was like.

You still had to grind like crazy to get the high end gear or be given a miracle for the Mk XII gear.

    ............ Read again /facepalm

I was talking about people who worked literally for months before the Reputation system in trying to get the Mk12 Sets.

Now those same people (which the system supposed to be "helping") not only have to work for 2 more months, they have to pay 34000 Dilithum per set piece to boot.

    let's see:
New STFs, been out almost a year = 0 proto Engine tech for my main...
S7, Rep system = in about a month "of grind" Guaranteed Engine...

But really, what is the "grind" with the Rep system?

The problem I see and have with reputation systems is okay as a primarily KDF player I do lots of marauding and doing these with 12 toons each day or every other day on average there are some commodities I get almost a whole stack of per day per character but yet these things there is no sink with those types in these reputation/starbase systems but then things I seldom ever get in any type of game play are the mass requirements for these.

Also the other problem that somewhat relates to their little story line is okay the romulans are basically saying oh we are greatful you put a hold on your war to stop us so... Even if there was a cease fire and possible end to the war and possible alliance again... There is that morality issue of all the organizations like the orion syndicate, nausicaans, letheans, etc that the federation has always been against are they just all going to be one happy family? ROFL I am seriously hoping they are going to get off of the track of where its going on the matter of trashing the IP for a quick buck but I know that will never change.

By itself, there is no "grind". Do one Elite STF or do the Tau Dewa Sector Daily, you're set for 2 days. (Which likely become Dailies at T4 and T5).

Now if you add DOFFing, Dilithum Dailies, and Fleet Marks on top of it.........well that's when those simple things become a grind.

So, I don't bother to doff anymore they stopped putting time into it. No new chains and the XP means nothing. Maybe if the commendation XP have some bonuses like the diplomacy one....

The one change I would make would be to have the reputation system be an account-wide unlock to help out those with alts. Right now I have two of my four toons that I regularly play. If I decide to unretire one of them or roll a new toon I am really not looking forward to the mandatory two month time gate. I understand the need for time-gating, but I don't understand the need to repeat it on multiple toons. Once we've gone through the gate once, that should be enough.

Azurian, when the gates go down to 20 hours, and the dil reward comes in for finishing 4 rep quests a day, the time to completion becomes a little over 30 days. The math looks like this (100k (rep)/2.8k (rep per project cycle)*20(hours per cycle)/24 (Hours per day))=29.7(Days) (Figure a couple days missed 33ish days). That is way less of grind then getting one mark 12 set used to be. Further we don't actually know what the price per item will be. They said it would in line with Fleet Gear so something like 10k-15k per piece plus 10 BNP. Yes that means you will have do 10 elite runs per piece of gear but even if you add all that up its still going to be way less then it took then under the old way, and on top of that you could skip the runs you don't like and just do the ones you do. Sure eventually you have to do them all for the appearance unlock but thats good with me.

My math, as in when i can get on and start playing, puts it at 36 days.
Reputation XP projects now reward a small amount of Dilithium upon completion .
340 for the 2000 XP projects
140 for the 800 XP projects
So for me, that's 480 a day, x2 with two different systems, or 960 per day.
OR a total of 34,500 Dil for finishing the system.
Of course there is also the Dil earned from doing the STFs, that gets saved up for the gear also.
But basically, the systems wil kinda pay themselves off. All I have to do is play the content and have fun!

    y'know, Farmville players, Poke'mon fans.

Most people know that pwe has some taliban type of fanboys who play their games and each time pwe gets a new game they move to it so logic dictates cryptic has to make a grinding machine for those pwe fanatics.

Not only they removed all goals from stfs (remember that mk XII is not better by much and mk XI was available for 40 edc each part) but they turned the game into a "do not play but lets wait online"

Ive yet to see a good reason why people should wait X hour to be able to insert their marks again or why people should wait in game.

P.S.Marks are not reward. Most people know that reward is that thingy you get after you complete a mission not in 30000 years of waiting.
