Bridge Officers come in three types: Security, Science and Engineering.
My current ship is capped at 4, I think, and I can't get any more until I get a ship that can hold more. I have 2 science, 1 security and 1 engineer.
Reading ship descriptions I see lots that say "2 Security Officers, 1 Science, 1 Engineering". If I upgrade to a ship that has a different configuration of Bridge Officers than I currently have, will I have to let go one of my science officers and get a new security officer to balance out or what happens to my extra science officer?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
PS - I just tried this game and am really having fun with it!
Bridge Officers are not locked to a ship. They go into a pool that you can pick and choose from. Case in point, my admiral level ships have varying positions of officers, but I actually have 15 officers to choose from.
So you can fly any ship you want. Obviously, if you get a ship with more officer stations than you have officers, you'll need to get some more. Other than that, and the rank, there's no restriction.
As you rank up, you'll get more Commisioned Bridge Officers lots. More then enough to handle any ship that you'll. I think Silver accounts get 8 slots and Gold accounts get 10 slots. And you can buy more Bridge Officer slots from the C-Store.
Why have more Bridge Officer slots then your need? Well allows you to fly different ships if you like to do that. Or if you like to fly only one ship, more Bridge Officers (BOFFS) allows you to swap out different abilities for fighting different factions. It allow you to major swap out your space build anytime your are outside of combat.
And one last thing, you will be earning more Bridge Officers as your level up as mission reards and leveling rewards. Thse new Bridge Officers will improve in quality with rare abilities (that you can't get any other way) and Improved/Superior Traits. But never fear, every character has a roster of 12 Reserve officer slots (right side of the Stations window). do you can handle to BOFF rewards until you are ready for them.
OK ... that "seems simple and logical", but when u have to sort it out always something is wrong, not working, can`t be done that way, or who knows what else ... asked some ppl who are playing much longer and still no 100% answer why is this happening and what to do ...
As always, picture is 1000 words worth so here it is :
not playing for long, but even this much is enough to see - it`s a bit messed up ; BOFFS is one thing, when picking Starship Stations is something else BUT ... as ScrnShot shows, got better ship on my "young Klingon" tactical char, picked the one with 2 Tact Officers ofc and as u can see ---> that 2nd slot can`t be filled, same on Federation side ...
is it always like this? and if so - why ??? plain logic is kinda not there as it is ... at least I see it that way, more than messed up and for no reason imo.
In your current situation. yes till have to decommsion one BOFF in order to get a second Tactical Officer. But you will get 2 more Bridge Officer slots when your gain your next rank. And/or your can buy slots from the C-Store.

Note free players don't get more than 5 BOff slots total without going gold at some point or buying extra slots from the C-Store.

we`ll see, we`ll see ... thx. still at lvl 28 and 26 so no idea what comes after that, but I can try and sack one Sci Off. if 2nd Tact will be available then ... if even that works .
removed ONE Sci.Officer to get that 2nd Eng. spot (on my Federation char) ---> and now I have ONE Officer TOTAL, can`t pick / assign any other ... WICKED! rly nice and simple, impressed tbh
and no, relog is not doing anything ... think I am done with this game tbh, with all those simple things - enjoy.
I have a noob question relating to my BO's but not allowed to start a thread? anyway i cant assign my tac or science officers into my stations and from reading it would seem its because ive ranked them up and the stations are for ensigns, BUT, i have an engineer in an ensign slot no prob who is lt rank? and on other parts of the forum ppl say u can put higher ranks into low rank slots you'll just lose access to the higher rank space ability. Now here is my question, if you get access to your officers abilities in space by putting them in stations, why is it i can use my BO's unlocked abilities in space who aren't even in a station at all and why can i assign a lt engineer into an ensign slot but not my lt tac or science officer into an ensign slot as well?

You are misunderstanding how Bridge Stations work. Bridge Stations have 2 attributes the class/career of the Bridge officer that is allowed to be assigned to it and a rank. Allowable Bridge Officers (BOFFs) will be Tactical, Engineering, Science or Universal. If the allowed BOFF are career specific, you can only assign a BOFF of that career to that station; i.e. you can only assign an Engineering BOFF to an Engineering Bridge Station. Rank does not matter in this regard. You can assign any Bridge Officer to a Universal Station.
Rank of the Station comes into play when determining which abilities of the assigned BOFF can be used. The Rank of a Station is the highest ranked abilities of the BOFF that can be used. So if you assign a Commander rank BOFF to a Lieutenant Rank Bridge Station, you will only be able to used the Ensign and Lieutenant rank abilities of the BOFF. Likewise, you can slot an Ensign ranked BOFF into a Commander Rank station, but you'll only be able to use the Ensign rank abilitiy of the BOFF So the rule of thumb is that the higher of the Rank of the Station or the Rank of the Bridge Officer determined the most powerful ability of the Bridge Officer assigned to the station.
Extra Commissioned Bridge Officers (i.e. BOFF on the left side of the Stations window) which are not assigned to a Bridge Station don't have any affect in space. However you can change Station assignments anytime you are not in combat.
I am tryin to put the correct type of officer in the correct station, tac in tac and so on im not that stupid lol. I have a Lt tac officer with high yield beam and beam overload powers and according to my ships station screen the tac slot is empty, my tac officer is in the available officer list to the left and yet in combat i have both powers on my power tray that i use all the time? The stations are also empty below my power tray while in ship view. Others have said they cant get there officers to go into the stations and several fixes have been posted and ive tried them with no success. As it stands im not losing any powers its just very annoying that i cant fix this bug.
well, as some1 xplained to me, for Empty BOFF slot and problems with those, as it is well known bug no1 is repairing - try this --->
go to Shipyard, pick any of ur smaller ships and arrange ur BOFFs there ---> switch back to ship u want them on (no need to go on ur ship to do that ofc.) and it should work then, u will be able to pick who and where u want them ... that kinda resets them .
I've made it a personal practice, as a F2Per, to buy the 2 bridge officer slots option from the c-store on all my characters as soon as I created them. That way I can have 2 tactical, 2 engineering, and 2 science BOFFs. It gives you flexability in your away teams, and allows you to try out the different types of ship types (escorts, cruisers, and science vessels) as you level up.
Ok I'm in the same boat cant create a thread but this one is close to my question anyways.
I'm new lieutenant (5) and have 3 BO's a tactical, science and engineer. I got the tactical officer first from the tutorial and the other 2 from completing the freighter mission after leaving earth starbase.
I have noticed though that my Tactical Officer earns WAY more skill points then the other two. I spent all of the points originally for my tactical officers and after completing a few missions my engingeer and science have like 175 skill points while my tactical racked up over 1000 points.
So my question is why is this? and how do i earn more points for my other 2 BO's as my tactical officer has maxed out one of her ensign skills and has almost maxed out her 2nd one, where as my engineer and science only have 1 point in each other theirs.
Having the same issue here. I have a lt and ensign engineer station with respective officers that i can switch to whichever engineer station I want. then i have and ensign tac station that I can't put my lt tac officer at and and ensign science station that I can't put my science ensign at. What gives? Please help!

I made the same error when I started playing just a little over a week ago, the skill points you can allocate to your Bridge Officers come from a shared pool, they don't each have a skill point pool of their own.
I have an un-used bridge slot for an ensign, I have an ensign tactical, but bound, no duty officer seems to be accepted in the un-used universal slot.
How do I remedy this?
All of my bridge officers have been promoted in full and I'm an Admiral. (Engineer)
My first officer is not reconmending any to me either. I have turned this option off now for now. HELP!
I must be a dummie or something, it may be staring me right in the face, but I cant use or assign any more bridge officers, just swap them around with an empty slot. I have tried to drag them over physically with the mouse assigned them to space , got more duty officers nothing is working for me. What is going on!
Do I need to discharge one of my bridge officers to get more? (which I dont want to really do)
Someone please tell me! How to do this or have I got a bug??
(mind you looking at this thread, someone doe's suggest going back to smaller ship and re-arrange there to solve this, I will try this to see if this helps)
Any other suggestions would be appreciated if this does not work.
because I'll be possibly back to this thread later.
So if you buy the two slots do you get to more stations on your current ship for officers? Also are they considered universal stations?
BO Slots (for Bridge Crew) has nothing to do with ship console seat stations, which are a property of the ship type (e.g. cruiser, escort, science) and tier level...
I Just got lvl 30 Sci captain with a long range sci vessel. The question is, what good is an active officer if I dont have a station for them. My stations are all full, but i have an officer taht is active but not assigned to a station. What do they offer if not on a station?

I've got a few officers that aren't used on my favorite ship, but that I've set up with different skill sets in case I want to run other ships or just have different options.
I won't trade out my tacticals on that particular ship, but I will sometimes trade out...say an officer with tractor beams for an officer with gravity well or tykiens rift.
The extra tactical officers I have are set up for other weapons configurations. My main ship is loaded down with cannons, so if I fly my ship that is set up with beam arrays and banks I won't have to train tac boffs to run it, I can just swap out.

Because later in the game you will have an extra slot for free (cant remember if you will gain it at level 40 or at level 50) and because its interesting to have various bridge officers in reserve in case you find one of em that fits other skills you are interested to have in that specific ship station. Or because you can train a skill from one of those inactive bridge officers instead. Or because you can trade those bridge officers in the exchange..
But of course, having more than 8-10 not active bridge officers is pointless. because boffs are cheap and most of the times you will be only interested in 1 or 2 skills they have.

I use some of my extra BOFF slots for away team members separate from my Bridge Crew. It's not necessary, just fun.
What is the maximum slots allowable for bridge officers?
Meaning how many times can I by the "2 Slot" option? I am thinking about setting up two different load outs for my current ship and I was think about two separate teams of bridge officers; one for each load out.

Up to 50 total 'commissioned' BoFF's slots It think?
Plus 12 'in waiting' though you can overcome that restriction with the "overflow' inventory.
Anyway, I'm one of those that have several "crews" for different ships ... A DHC/SCI team for my Escort and a BFAW/Tank crew for my Cruiser + another as my 'Away Team" .. .So yep I have on all of my toons, minimum 14 'commissioned' officers (18 on my first toon, a Fed Engi )

Duty Officers (DoFF's) are a totally separate thing to Bridge Officers (BoFF's) and CANNOT be interchanged.
When you open your status screen (usually the 'U' key) you will see a list of your CommissionedBridge Officers, they will have the usual Star Trek colours to designate there class = Blue for Science, red for Tactical and Yellow for Engineering.
Only a Commissioned Bridge Officer can be put into a station of a ship.
If you open the "Stations" Tab, their may be a list of "un-commissioned" officers in waiting (particularly if you are lvl 50, but haven't purchased any extra 'active' bridge officer slots.)

Wrong, free players get 6 BOff slots total. Enough for 2 of each type of officer.

Also BOffs =/= DOffs - the former are like companions, the latter are like trading cards.
