Proposal for an Exploration/Marauder Reputation System

We all know exploration has been long due for a full revamp, but perhaps with the new reputation system and the tech Cryptic has already developed we could get a half-revamp to tackle some of the issues. Admittedly, many issues stem from the limited templates for the missions, rampant bugs in maps, and the overall exploration is actually conducted in game (fishbowl). But, extending the reputation system to exploration could solve some of the issues of why we should be doing exploration.

Using a several tier rep system that groups the exploration clusters and can begin at level 1. The idea is as you level up and the new cluster missions become available, so does the new reputation system. Unfortunately this means a return of ?Exploration Marks? but they could be reduced to just one mark. Note the Klingon side is a tad tougher due to the lack of content, but this could be incorporated into updates making the Klingon faction fully functional. The idea is to return some of the old rewards we used to get only using the newer framework.

Federation

Track 1 - Federation Explorer
  • This includes the following exploration clusters
    • Delta Volanis
    • Arucanis Arm
    • Hromi Cluster
  • These would open up stores for the gear that was offered for Lieutenant - previously from ESD
  • Very small amount of dilithium from completing rep missions, 60dil

Track 2 - Klingon Explorer
  • No existing clusters really exist, so three would have to be created and then attached to the Eta Eridani sector block at the bottom.
  • Will require a new push of missions from the Genesis System
  • Will require three new Duty Officer colonial chains and system hook-ups
  • These would open stores for the gear that was offered for Lieutenant Commander - previously from ESD
  • Very small amount of dilithium from completing rep missions, 90

Track 3 - Romulan Explorer
  • This includes the following exploration clusters
    • Afehirr Nebula
    • Khazan Cluster
    • Eridan Belt
  • These would open up stores for the gear that was offered for Commander - previously from ESD
  • Very small amount of dilithium from completing rep missions, 120

Track 4 - Cardassian Explorer
  • This includes the following exploration clusters
    • Rolor Nebula
    • Betraka Nebula
    • Zenas Expanse
  • These would open up stores for the gear that was offered for Captain - previously from ESD
  • Very small amount of dilithium from completing rep missions, 180

Track 5 - Borg/Undine Explorer
  • This includes the following sectors
    • B'Tran Cluster
    • B'Tran (Vice Admiral) - moved to the right side of Gamma Orionis and renamed to be consistent
    • "New Sector" - Attached to the Pelias Sector
  • These would open up stores for the gear that was offered for RA - VA - previously from ESD
  • Would require two new Duty Officer Colonial chains and hookups for the new sector
  • would offer a small amount of dilithium from completing the rep missions, 240

The idea has merit, but the bribes (IE Dilithium/EC/whatever Mark cost) to unlock the various areas would probably cost too much.

Well since I would envision it to start at a much lower level, that the lower level Reps would not be so obtrusive with costs. As you approach end-game yeah that rep would be similar to what we see. They have all the old data to know how many "Marks of Exploration 1" etc... equated to each item. So, it is simply going back to that type of a system, but scaled. You get fewer marks for the First rep tree but things cost less, then they scale up more marks things more expensive, but again scaled to what we previously had.

I would also think that the items from this system should also be freely tradeable and sellable like they were before. This will bring back that section of the economy from "explorers" that was removed and also give leveling players more affordable and varied options when leveling. Again, like it was before.
