Is Season 7 good enough to spend money on?

carcharodon1975carcharodon1975 Member Posts: 0 Arc User
There is no denying that the game has been 're balanced' and the grind has been stepped up quite a bit. With the increase in Dilithium costs and a decrease in how much Dilithium one can earn during a gaming session,Cryptic is trying to 'persuade' us to spend money on items/ships in the C-store to make the grind a bit easier. At the same time a shortcut is offered through the Dilithium/Zen exchange, where a low Dilithium to Zen rate is preferred,as people need more Zen to buy the same amount of Dilithium. (More Zen means more money for Cryptic/PWE.)

With that in mind,my question to all of you: Does Season 7 offer enough new (enjoyable) content to spend money on?
The PWE/Cryptic sweatshop...not where the game is made, but where the game is played!

Take back your home, end the grind!

I was told this is a free game. Yeah right.
It is impossible to get through anything in this game without spending real money sadly.
    Getting dilithium is the worst.
If you played this game without ever spending any real money on it,it would take years to get through per season.
A free game????? I think not.

I'd say it's not worth spending money.

Wait 3 weeks until they iron out some of the current issues and ask again.

Depends entirely on you I guess.

If there are items you like or want and you enjoy season 7, go crazy.

No one can tell you what's valuable to you, but I will say that despite really wanting the Vesta--and being very close to purchasing it--I've decided not to spend a single penny on this game going forward. Season 7 taught me that Cryptic isn't interested in developing the game forward, but laterally--only more of the same. Until I see the money spent by players going to some serious content development that isn't tied to these grind and time-gate systems, I'm holding off on investing.

I'm unclear on what decrease in Dilithium earnings you're referring to. Is there something aside from the B'Tran daily and the exploitive Console Clickers for the Foundry Daily that were axed?

While there has been an increase in the amount of Dilithium spending opportunities through the Reputation System and the Embassy Starbase Holding that can give one a feeling of a huge weight pressing down on them, there isn't any time limit on when those projects need to be completed. As long as you're playing the scenarios that award the resources you need (Dilithium or Marks), you will eventually complete these projects.

The option to purchase Dilithium via Zen does exist with the Dilithium/Zen Exchange. You can spend some cash to get the Dilithium for those projects, but you don't need to. There's nothing saying you need that Dilithium right at that moment. The project isn't going to up and disappear or timeout if you don't get it done in a certain time frame. It will be there until it's filled up (with the exception of the Featured Projects which are fluffy items and don't progress a Starbase towards the next tier).

In addition to the lack of a time limit, we now have Fleet Actions that have Dilithium added to them to incentivize playing them, as well as giving us more activities that reward Dilithium. This actually opens up more opportunity for folks to earn dilithium than before as not everyone would venture STF's to make their Dilithium. If anything, more opportunity is being provided to a larger portion of the playerbase to earn Dilithium to contribute to projects and purchase gear for themselves.

My dilithium per hour has largely stayed the same(somewhere in the 4k per hour range), and will completely return to normal once my Omega grind is done (so i can turn in marks/BNC for dil) and I'm making FAR more EC with the new Fleet Actions. Of course, I didn't abuse nonsense like clickable dilithium turnins or run a dozen alts abusing those(and other) mechanics either.

Yep, I'll spend money depending on what they release, since its entirely independent of the changes your complaining about. The gameplay hasn't changed, just the reward structure, which people are throwing an absolute fit over because it doesn't gift them full MkXII gear within a week.

Ill especially spend some money if they throw the Klingons some decent escort fleet ships, or a KDF version of the Vesta (hint hint).

Season 7 has been the reason I have stopped playing. Haven't touched the game in nearly a week now. Until the Duty Officer Dilithium Expectations are reduced, I shall continue to keep this game turned off.

Your wish will most likely fall on deaf ears. Actual content for the Klingons? You MUST be joking.

They've already said they're working on KDF and Fed fleet ship additions. This is a case where it's a given KDF will get theirs, as it requires absolutely zero asset creation, since fleet ships are just reskins. It's basically free money for Cryptic, and Cryptic likes that sort of KDF content.

I'm actually not one of those that cares about KDF missions or leveling content. I just want more ships.

Has its already been stated ?Value is in the eye of the Beholder? and in my eyes season 7 is not worth investing real world money in.

I'm not saying that season 7 is Fail because many others may find it to be just what they wanted; however, it just does not appeal to me.

Strangely I did buy the Steam Runner pack during the promotion last week even though I really don't play this MMO anymore.

Instead of creating content that people want to play, they created something that people need to play. That's what people associate with jobs, something you need to do to get paid.Only a few lucky ones have jobs they enjoy as much as other people enjoy their hobbies.

And there may be no time limits within the game to progress, but last time I checked an Earth day still has 24 hours, and there are only so many useful hours in a day.

Watch out the mods are taking out all posts that say "Quitting the game". Apparently they want to suppress people leaving STO in mass exodus...still your choice and your free speech to say what you want without being insultive. Most people are in fact leaving STO why "spend" money on it

For me its too little too late. The whole conversion robbery, dilithium sinks with dilithium removed from key areas was enough for me to say that's kind of it for me.

I still play my main toon(s) (I had 14, now only 3) every couple of days, but I do not foresee myself ever getting back to pre f2p levels. The game is just too time gated and grindy to be even remotely fun.....

What variations of content exactly do people not want to play? We have Ground and Space scenarios for all currency denominations. Foundry Missions (once they're back up) will have the Foundry wrapper that will give you Dilithium and Fleet Marks.

Are you referring to how folks aren't getting Fleet Marks or Dilithium from the New Romulus and Tau Dewa missions? What kind of content specifically are people looking to get their cache of Dilithium out of?

That plays right into the idea of progressing on your own schedule. The idea I think you're getting at though is you're expecting to have a percentage of something done within a certain amount of your own available personal time spent. So, what's the rush? Get to it when you want to get to it.

"Quitting" posts are specifically not allowed by Forum rules, ever. They're considered a form of spamming under the Forum rules. That would be why they're being moderated. Nothing to do with S7.

If anyone were really out to censor any negative opinion about STO, a lot of the threads and posts currently running in practically every subforum would get deleted. But they don't. Negative feedback is still feedback and that's what the forums are for.

However, discussing specific moderator actions publicly is also against the forum rules. So people shouldn't do that. If they have an issue with something a mod did, they should open a ticket.

I have been playing this game for just a few days and I find it a very good mmo. Lots to do, and visually satisfying. I am still struggling to learn how to do basic tasks, but I am enjoying it ALOT. I am a Face of Mankind player, but havent playede that game since finding this one. I would like to know though. What is the advantage in game if you pay the monthly premium? I would gladly pay it if it were helpful, or if it included an extra ship or something. Can anyone tell me the advantage of paying for the game? Thankyou

NO...spending money on STO in its present state only tells Cryptic and PW your happy to continue accepting their min effort for mass profit..........until everybody votes with their wallets nothing will change......sad state of affairs but that's about all the fans can do at this stage.

Although with S7 i think Cryptic/PW just had a rude awaking.

The answer to your question is NO.

I am bored to tears now when i do STFs. The removal of loot bags was the worst idea devs ever had. Basically, it is now like playing a MMO without ever getting loot drops. That is not what i signed for and i am downloading SWTOR as we speak...

I am sorry Devs, but your Reputation system is jsut not good enough to keep me entertained.

Time-gated projects. Uncancellable projects when you misclicked. Ridiculously overpriced projects to get gear pieces we were before getting for 5 EDC ( Hello Mk X Borg Engine ).

I am done here. Devs send me a mail when you come back to your senses and think about player entertainement before thinking just about money. You can't get one if you do not give the other.

I am glad i did not buy the Vesta. Flying in a ship is not enough content for me ( i am talking about rewarding content, what is absent of STO ).

    Ciao

It depends on if you feel they earned your money.

I do not think Cryptic earned my commerce this month. In fact I'm quite peeved at them.

Arenanet did earn my coin this month with a fun even this weekend, so I rewarded them instead of PWE.
    Leave nerfing to the professionals.

I said it in another thread, for me, there is no investment on return for giving my hard earned money to Cryptic or STO at this time. There use to be, but not anymore since S7.

Normally by now I'd have the Vestas, all of them, but this time, not going to spend my real money on it. I'll let my Zen stipend build up to the appropriate Zen to buy the Vestas. It will take 9 months to get up to 5,000 Zen, to buy the pack, but it's free Zen, and I will wait for that to happen instead of spending my money this time. This is the first time I've not bought a new ship that has come out immediately, in this game.
