Any news on the Galaxy X Saucer Sep? Maybe even Fleetversion?

frostyslyfrostysly Member Posts: 42 Arc User
I was going to wait for another "ask Cryptic", but it seems that someone forgot to collect questions :-)

I'd like to know - since Mr. Stahl mentioned the eta for saucer seperation of the Galaxy-X during Season 7 - when will we see it? And will it be fleet version, or just an upgrade to the saucer sep console? Any other stats you guys can share? Like an extra console slot? or maybe a universal Lt.Cmdr BO slot? something like that... anything? pretty please?

P.S. While you are at it... can you please move all the Galaxy-X upgradeparts back to the center of the ship where they belong? Thank you! :-)

I can't say that I am, sorry. I've considered buying the Galaxy retrofit, but I couldn't bring myself to get the Dreadnought. It just doesn't do anything for me.

I'm not sure why a saucer separation would even work for a Dreadnought. The spinal phaser is supposed to be directly connected to the stardrive section and the warp core. That's... not something I can foresee being easily separated.

there will never be a fleet version as long as the phaser lance is still a built in power instead of a console. same goes for other ships with built in powers.

    Not worthless.

    You'll be flying the Enterprise-D.

...what? Am I the only on who paid money for the Tac Escort Retro because I wanted to fly the Defiant around?

Nope. I even got the Sao Paulo for the quad cannons. This was before they were buffed mind you.

I finally gave up on my Gal X, which was to be the only ship my first toon was to command. Its just too slow and fat, and I feel like I can never get its Spinal Lance off when I wanted to. I never cloaked with it, took it into PvP once and had my noob TRIBBLE handed to me with inferior gear.

I wanted a more agile ship to bear the Zorro name. I created my third toon, a Sci, knowing Al planned on making the Vesta class a sci ship. But when they announced the Tac version too, with its deflector phaser, I knew Captain Conquest had his new Zorro! I then created my only Eng toon, Capt Rider (who was Conquest's XO) to get use out of the third ship in the pack. I renamed the Gal X to USS Diego de la Vega, just in case Al gives me a reason to pull him out of mothballs. But my hopes are no longer up. Separation means nothing to me, that ship shouldnt separate as a tactical manuever IMO.

Unless they allow the Galaxy X to use the saucer seperation console from the Galaxy refit, I don't like the idea. That would essentially negate any reason to purchase the Galaxy refit, and I think that would TRIBBLE off a lot of Galaxy fanboys. I personally don't see a good reason for a Galaxy X to seperate because of that big freaking cannon they attached to the bottom of it. My primary uses a Galaxy X, and I find it to be a damn good ship. I allocate a lot of power to weapons, so it can't take as many hits as most of your Galaxy X's out there, but I can dish out a lot of damage, and I have most of my abilities allocated to fix the survivability issues. I love my Galaxy X, and even when it shows up as an NPC, it's still a badass ship. I was playing Hive Onslaught (Elite) and a Galaxy X showed up to fight the Queen when someone popped their fleet support. That ship really made the difference during that battle.

Yeah, I've popped the G-X as an npc ship during the same fight.... The only thing one could hear in Teamspeak was: "all heals to the dreaddy" lol

I never use the cloaking device either... maybe i would IF she had 10 console slots...

Come on Cryptic! Ya gotta do something to make the Galaxy-X competetive to the fleetversions.

JamJamz - gimme a call here will ya!? Anything! I would even appreciate a simple "nope"...

I've been waiting for some sort of a galaxy package that was supposed to include the saucer sep console for the galaxy-x but that hasn't materialized. Where is it?

last thing i heard is that people who allready bought any galaxy class in game, couldn't buy the package due to somekind of issue.

So, the fleetsystem is another way to give it. at least in my opinion

Its not directly connected, if you look you see a line on the phaser lance, its easily explained how there can be connection power modules that detach so the saucer can still seperate. It was never STATED that it could not, even the diamond select models of the galaxy x that i own can seperate and shows where it does on the model. So unless its been stated in tv, its not un-cannon for it to be able to seperate. I get tired of people saying it cant because of the lance, it could probally hold one charge of the lance after seperating its connections.

Back when the devs were planning a Galaxy-X that could separate, they had intentions to modify the phaser lance such that in separation mode, you could still fire it, but with a weaker, 'shotgun-like' effect as opposed to the mega-phaser blast it is capable of in docked mode.

Although the tech was created (and improved upon), to the extent that Chris Fisher was shown a demo on the now-defunct STOked podcast, the reason the Galaxy pack didn't get released was because they couldn't figure out how to charge money to add the separation upgrade for people who already had the Galaxy-X. The Galaxy Pack was thus taken off the release calendar and put on indefinite hold.

I'd link the relevant post, but the information was related back before the forums got destroyed. You'll have to take my word for it.

You're right that they never said on TV that they can't perform a saucer separation, so it could be possible. Having looked at screencaps of 'All Good Things...' from TrekCore, I have to say I still remain dubious. The phaser lance module just looks like it is too far merged with the neck to really be easily dislodged.

Then again, I have to assume that refitting the Galaxy-class to hold the phaser lance would not have been too invasive for the ship's superstructure, otherwise what would be the point - it would be better to design a new ship class built around the phaser lance rather than plug the lance onto a pre-existing class. So, eh - I really don't have any horse in this race to be honest.

I enjoy the Gal-X on occasion. Pop in a few RCS and the Subspace jump module and you get manuever okay and get into position with the spinal lance when you need it.

However, the spinal lance is just to weak. For a 3min cool down it does TRIBBLE damage. I can out do it with Beam Overload 3 on an escort every 30sec. The timer needs to either be dropped or the damage boosted significantly.

Ideally it should just be made a regular weapon that's only equippable on the Gal-X, like the Aux cannons on the Vesta. Give it the 45 arc and dmg of the quad cannons. In the episode you saw it fire several times. While we're dreaming, go ahead and tweak the animation so that the beam is no wider than the cannon graphic on the ship model.

Then you can make a Fleet version that just doesn't have the weapon or the cloak. Allow it to have a saucer separation mode and just fire the weapon out of the part left on the drive section.

yes the phaser lance is pretty weak... even with support effects it hits way to scarce. normal damage is about 2x 10 - 12k.
but on verry very very special occasions i can hit a npc ship with a 38k crit :D
Then again i sometimes even miss a borg cube even if i'm right nex to it...

It would be epic if it had a 1.15 shield modifier like the Odyssey.

I really miss my old Dreadnought. Probably my favorite ship of the whole game.

But with all the creep from new C-store, lockbox, and fleet variants, the ship needs a significant boost.

Especially the phaser spinal lance in terms of accuracy and shield penetration.

    Man I miss that ship.

If they are so worried about ships that have built in abilities why don't they just put a system in place that can tell if you have bought certain ships from the c-store? I mean already have a system that can tell you own a tier 5 ships.

Really would be nice to see the gal x, guramba, and vet ships get a fleet version.

and i would agree and still fly my useless galaxy lol
